Following on from this post do funding and grant awarding bodies have any requirements or stipulations for whether and how AI can be used on projects they fund? And the same for heritage organisations receiving public money? It feels like we are very much on the back foot here

Fellow archaeologists out there can we have a conversation about the use of AI in the materials we produce for the public. I know that a lot of us are increasingly frustrated by the use of AI in media and all the awful stereotypes that we have spent decades trying to challenge creeping back in

I don't want to name and shame the company but this was produced as a children's activity booklet - it's very obviously AI as are all the other images and at least some of the activities. What is the value of this material in telling stories, creating engagement, and sharing knowledge? #archaeology

How do we protect the livelihood of our illustrators and our outreach/educational team? Is it time to have a written code of practice for if and how AI is used in archaeology?

Finished up my bag - if I was doing it again I would definitely paint a layer of white undercoat as the first few coats of colour just soaked straight into the fabric 🤣. Added a few extra details and a zip I had from an old cushion cover to finish. Now to see what else I have lying around to paint!

BREAKING: 94 year old Jewish human rights barrister, Margaret Owen arrested under the Terrorism Act outside Andy Burnham’s Labour Party conference. UK taxpayers are funding these arrests while masked men terrorise the streets in coastal towns. Lift The Ban on Palestine Action.

Jazzing up my Iron Age dialogues tote bag - got a few more coats to go but love it so far. Let's hope the internet didn't lie and ironing acrylic markers fixes the colour!! #ironage #archaeology

Currently working on a project where a key element of the site history is the seizure of the plot as part of the massive land grab that was the Enclosure Acts. I will never cease to be amazed about how normalised this massive theft of the communal resources by the rich is!

PhD thesis submitted at the end of last month and now feeling weirdly flat and restless. Sharing a little zine I made at the end of the project as a nod to hopefully doing more creative things in archaeology soon! Last few pages to follow

Distracting myself ahead of looming PhD deadline -so making requests from the Pokémon obsessed kids 🤣. Currently working out how to turn an old Frozen bag they have grown out of, an old cushion cover and a pair of old jeans into a Psyduck shoulder bag! Looking so cute so far

5 Muslim's were injured yesterday in a racist attack by a man wielding an axe It has barely been mentioned A couple of months ago 4 empty ambulances were burned, no one was injured but they talked about it for weeks and had a COBR meeting. The racism in the UK is systematic

We’ve been doggedly reporting on Palantir’s contracts with UK state…& this latest one with Met police is both creepy & opaque. Met has used Palantir to spy on its own officers. If it can do this to its own employees…what about the rest of us? By @mc00.bsky.social & @luciaoc.bsky.social

NEW Fears over the spread of Palantir’s influence after ‘Big Brother’ Met police project extended The staff surveillance pilot was due to expire in April, but the Nerve has established that it was in fact extended to today, May 15. There is no indication what happens next… Link ⤵️

I’m not sure why we still have a monarch. It seems like a medieval anachronism to me; a demonstration of inherited status and the the pinnacle of an entrenched aristocracy. And I’m really not sure why our monarch has gone to the US to stand next to another man with too much power, land and money.

The UK govt underestimated the carbon emissions of AI data centres. Not by a bit. By a factor of 100. Giving tax breaks for billionaires to generate with an insane, economy-destroying bubble for their word-guessing plagiarism engine will burn the planet.

Victoria Derbyshire allowing Zia Yusuf to tie himself in absolute knots by asking him simple questions about Reform policy. A masterclass in quality journalism.

"So will it be the same act but with a different label?" Victoria Derbyshire humiliates Zia Yusuf on Reform UK's plan to scrap the Equalities Act, because, as she reads each of the things from the Equalities act he confirms they'll still be protected 🤷‍♂️

Left: Zia Yusuf, "Mandelson deserves to be in jail. The buck stops with the executive, Keir Starmer is a disgrace to his office and should resign" Right: Nathan Gill is in jail for accepting Russian bribes. Using Zia Yusuf's logic, isn't Nigel Farage also a disgrace, and should also resign?
