It really is amazing how wall street can make new awful financial products that should be illegal, and we don't make them illegal until they cause a once-in-a-lifetime financial crisis. Anyway... leveraged ETFs sure seem like that kind of thing.

Didn't we already do this with houses? Are we seriously going to do this entire thing with stocks again?

You know what they say about ripping off bandaids: It's always best to do it slowly over 9 months so you feel 9 months of pain.

Can't imagine working at Xbox right now knowing that there are not one, not two, but three already planned layoff waves through the holidays and into the new year. This is terrible management.

I don't think it's being reported enough that the dorky finance people pretty much all think Oracle is going to go out of business before they replay this debt. And Ellison just used his dad's Oracle stock as collateral to buy Warner.

But don't worry, those people also think there is absolutely no chance in hell Paramount, which just bought Warner is going to exist in 2036. Just a totally crazy world. I can't believe any of this shit is legal.

Of course he fucking did.

If I went to Switzerland and won a Swiss watch precision contest, I would literally never talk about anything else

Katie Mack@astrokatie.com

I went to Geneva a few weeks ago and spoke on a panel about the nature of time for a Geneva Watch Days event. While I was there, on a lark, I entered a competition to most precisely calibrate a Swiss watch. And today I found out that I won! 😃 www.instagram.com/reel/Dd6hUTB...

Why would you have one bad new cycle when you can have 10 of them spread over two years? That's what they get paid the big bucks for. MS is acting like it is important to give Amy Hood's magical Excel sheet regular offerings or else it will rise up and take over a large city.

Only 1k+ layoffs to go in a 'reset' that is lasting months interspersed with the Kojima deal and pieces highlighting the CEO taking on support tickets. I would say all this does not fill one with confidence of success. But that relies on knowing the real end goal and that still seems up in the air.

It really is amazing that Apple led their foldable phone segment talking about "UGH BLACK BARS" when you watch videos. Then launched a squarish device... and in a BRIEF moment showing full screen video showed an Apple TV show that is filmed WIDER than 16:9 cropped to fill their square screen.

A lot of the time, when you call someone "the best to ever do it," it's hyperbole. But when it comes to classic multi-cam sitcom direction, Burrows was without any scintilla of a doubt the best to ever do it. RIP.

We've lost a legend: James Burrows, one of the greatest sitcom directors in TV history, has passed away at the age of 85, per People magazine.

pretty much all of the video game industry's growth over the last several years, what little there has been, can be accounted for by mobile, and that's primarily driven by a handful of titles. console and pc are dominated by five games. the pie for everyone else is shrinking.

This royally sucks, these companies were doing things no one else was. "Keeper" was amazing and NOTHING I've played in the past decade looks and sounds like "South of Midnight".

Xbox is closing down Hellblade creator Ninja Theory. Compulsion Games and Double Fine are also in “active negotiations” about spinning off www.theverge.com/games/950204...

Double Fine has almost died several times and SOMEHOW they always manage to survive. Hopefully they can pull another rabbit out of a hat.

Both of these emails from Google are totally baffling. I have absolutely no idea what caused them to send the "You're using Gemini on your Apple device" email. Maybe in maps or something I don't know. The child one is equaly amazing since I don't have children.

I pay a lot of attention to computer hardware and I would never in a million years be able to tell you what the name of the new top end Intel processor is. For years they had the easiest model numbers and they threw that out to have something with NUMBERS "ultra" and "plus" in one product.

Best pitch for an unmade movie I've ever heard is Margot Robbie and Elijah Wood starring as a couple honeymooning in Europe when they get mistaken for a pair of world class assassins played by Samara Weaving and Daniel Radcliffe. Hijinx ensue.

I think we should just take all of Marc Andreessen's money. They are going to call any kind of tax "theft" anyway, so we might as well just commit actual theft.

When I was joking about this before I had also totally forgotten that this is Ellison, so in additional to totally rebuilding the app from scratch they are also going to have to switch over to Oracle tech.

They only good thing about this stupid merger is that we will get the 7th attempt at re-creating the HBO app from scratch that will be bad in new hilarious and horrible ways. We must throw everything out and start from the ground up! How else will Pluto content sit next to HBO content?

And now for some exciting Olympic hockey between the US... and *squints* the US. This might be the worst uniform combination I've ever seen.

I would watch a four hour documentary about the logistics, creative development and production of that half time show.
