70 percent of the internet was vulnerable yesterday to very bad security flaws inside a coding language. Turns out, *one volunteer* is mostly responsible for maintaining that code & helping push updates. Yesterday Ondřej Surý saved the internet. So I called him up www.theatlantic.com/technology/2...

This morning’s idea made real. Using scraps from other projects to turn into a sort of #ScrapPot #MachineEmbroidery The #organza is trimmed using a soldering iron. I will sit with it for a bit before adding some embellishments.

Sat with it until I was ready to possibly ruin it. Attached some undyed scrim with freehand #MachineEmbroidery, then hand embroidery and beads. Quite pleased with it at the moment.

A small amount of glee as listening to #JasperFforde’s #DarkReadingMatter (at last!) and someone has just got a couple of coffees from Tashtego’s #MelvilleMonday

Most often, people hire me to draw clean, grayscale maps of real places. But sometimes people hire me to draw fantasy maps. And every once in a while, someone will hire me to draw a fantasy-style map of a real place. They make great presents, in case you're wondering. #maps #fantasymaps

Pissing off the top of a cliff, into a fjord, is one of the most exhilarating things you can do with most of your clothes on. When you realise that you're being watched from the other side of the fjord it becomes even more exhilarating. Fortunately, we never met them.

First day of food waste collection, they missed my bin 🙁. Saw them go straight past on the cctv replay (if it hadn’t been 6.45 and I’d been in the shower I would have dashed out to them)

Oh. And they haven’t updated their “Report a missed bin collection” page to include an option for food waste collection. 🤦🏻‍♀️ I have reported that problem and my original problem via their “was this page useful” option.

And for context this was my first time putting my bin out but the service has been running for a few weeks. The crew also seemed to be a bit lost as there was much standing at junctions looking at phone displays and pointing.

Reposting because all of my jobs have always come from someone in my network referring me or knowing someone who needs a science communicator 🤞

Related, but I'm back on the job market for full time positions I prefer remote roles, but an amazing opportunity (in a trans-safe locale) would make me consider relocation If you spot any senior science communication roles or adjacent, please let me know!

In 1671, Friedrich Martens travelled to Svalbard and around Greenland as ship's surgeon on the 'Jonas im Walfisch' or 'Jonah in the Whale'. These engravings of a whale & fin whale are from the diary he kept, first published in 1675, where he recorded the area's flora, fauna & whaling industry.
