It takes fairly little effort for a person to tell their AI bot to research and draft an email, but it takes the recipients real time to dig into these tips and separate hallucinations from tips that might actually have some basis. They're basically DDOSing journalists.

This is happening to me, but with "tips" about a huge range of crypto-related issues (or perceived issues) people are personally struggling with. The volume is genuinely challenging to deal with.

In the last few weeks i've been bombarded with emails from people who have minor tech support problems. ChatGPT is telling them to email me, writing their emails, and compiling "evidence packets" after convincing them they have stumbled on a major story: www.404media.co/chatgpt-keep...

If I owned an ice hockey team, I would invest heavily into genetically engineering a 6’x4’ block of human flesh to put in goal.

#StarTrekVOY "Through The Valley" To traverse a terrifying region of space, the crew refit Voyager to look like one of the native space-born creatures. When a transporter accident splits Harry into two people, Janeway demotes each of them to halfnsigns.

Lol let's destroy the revenue models for actual humans creating actual information, not bother to give our customers proper tech support, and make our robots tell those customers to bother journalists so we don't have to listen to their problems. ONE TRILLION DOLLARS, please!

Watching "meta-externalagent/1.1" requesting "/" on my website once or twice a second for the last three hours, occasionally branching out to check if anything has unexpectedly appeared at "/null", and wondering what drugs they're on at Facebook these days.

Prediction markets are supposed to amplify correct information but mainly just reflect what people are told by the media they consume. That's not a particularly bad way to predict things, at least until (waves hands at everything) they finally kill off proper news media, but there's no magic in it.

Let me tell you a story about the politics of Australia: Over the last 28 years generally, but over the last decade particularly, I've done a lot of politics outside of Australia. Last week, an organisation I work with called me in for a meeting mostly among people like me around the world /n

This whole clip feels like SNL UK dug up an old book of un-filmed Two Ronnies sketches, and just edited out the bit where they were incredibly sexist towards the cat.

It's the same mindset that thinks what poor people really need is advice on how to budget.

I grew up in a lower income immigrant family and we ate at Red Lobster for "special days." But we also understood the White House should not look like the inside of Red Lobster. It's condescending to assuming working ppl are culturally illiterate bc their experience is shaped by their limited means.

I think the gap between "video essay" and "documentary" just narrowed to the point that now we have a commercially released Elon Musk doco with a longer runtime than an hbomberguy video.

This happened to me back when I was doing tech support for a small Internet provider back in the 90s. The office manager asked how we all learned to type so fast, and we pretty much answered in unison, "IRC".

It's weird to think back to the 90s and remember that back then a man being able to do more than two-finger hunt-and-peck typing was rare enough to be remarked on.

When AirBnB was legitimately squatting in peoples spare rooms, rules that asked you to act like a houseguest made sense. Now they're just unregulated hotels, and owners are trying to squeeze every dollar they can out of guests, sorry but no.

Katniss is currently not talking to me because I deliberately and maliciously made a sandwich in a way that did not involve her getting any Vegemite.

They already hold the internet together, are we now going to have to depend on them to save American democracy?

It's more than a bit :crylaugh: to remember that Linktree got to a billion dollar valuation basically by giving people a place to put their naughty links without upsetting social media.

As we approach the midterms, remember that the Alt National Park Service is a merch sales operation claiming without evidence to be a group of federal employees, and is not a genuine source of news about elections of any kind. Please get your election info from a local, reputable source.
