What a great soul.  Tom played so many iconic characters throughout his life, and he was generous to the people and causes he cared about, including the arts, veterans, and the environment. How lucky were we to have Tom and Julie in the Northwest. He will be missed.

Tom Skerritt, the acclaimed character actor who starred in “Alien,” “Top Gun,” “Contact” and more, died Wednesday at his home in Seattle. He was 93.

A war with Iran and damaging tariffs continue to haunt American households by raising the costs of everything. Prices overall are up 3.7%. Those families trying to budget for winter heating needs are facing fuel oil prices that are up 74.2% over last year. (1/2) abcnews.com/Business/inf...

We had a great crowd at yesterday's Main Street Promise Celebration in Vancouver. The community had a vision for Main Street, and that vision has become a reality. Congratulations, Vancouver!

It was great meeting with Gabriela Whitemarsh, the 2026 Washington State Teacher of the Year. Gabriela teaches advanced mathematics in both English and Spanish and is an advocate for bilingual education. Thank you Gabriela for the lifechanging work you do with Pasco’s youth!

Dolores Sibonga was a giant in our community whose impact and trailblazing legacy will live on. She was the first woman of color elected to the Seattle City Council and the first Filipino American to pass the Washington State bar exam. (1/2) www.seattletimes.com/life/culture...

She dedicated her life to championing communities too often left behind while mentoring the next generation of leaders. Seattle is better and stronger because of her leadership. Dolores’ friends and family are in my thoughts during this difficult time. (2/2)

The costs of President Trump’s unnecessary war with Iran continue to mount, and the American people want it to end. We have lost valuable lives, and the conflict is compounding the burden of high gas and grocery prices at home.

I am honored to be a recipient of #NAFTAE’s Friend of Adult Learners Award. It’s my pleasure to support adult learners by strengthening adult education opportunities. Thank you NAFTAE.

This #AeroWeek, we celebrate the 100,000+ aerospace workers and 1,500+ companies in Washington state creating the future of flight and space exploration. WA boasts over 100 years of commercial aviation heritage and we are proud to be a leader in the aerospace industry.

I want these rules in place because sports is about any given Saturday. It’s not about whether you have a billionaire in your backyard. It’s about whether you can coach, recruit, have academic performance, & have fairness. But that fairness does not exist today without this bill.

A strong bipartisan group of Senators voted to advance discussion of college sports reforms. With the drag on higher education that athletic departments are causing, this discussion can't happen soon enough. Women's and Olympic sports need immediate shoring up. www.espn.com/college-spor...

espn.comSenate votes to begin consideration of Protect College Sports ActLegislation to broadly regulate college sports has cleared a first major hurdle in the Senate after the chamber voted 74-24 Tuesday to begin consideration of the Protect College Sports Act.

We're seeing universities transfer general fund money to cover athletic department deficits, dip into endowments to sustain their general funds, and beg state legislatures for even more sports dollars. (2/3)

This close to the election we need stability, not disenfranchisement and confusion. I’m glad a majority of the Supreme Court Justices rejected Trump’s mail-in ballot scheme that would have created chaos and denied many Americans the right to vote. (1/2)

The Supreme Court has rejected President Donald Trump’s controversial plan to change how mail ballots are sent to voters across the country. https://cnn.it/4rcL7M4

Rolling back carbon pollution limits from power plants is a step in the wrong direction. Rather than abandoning public health standards and the fight against climate change, the way to keep electricity prices down is to invest in cleaner, more efficient energy technologies.

Our hearts are mourning for all those lost on September 11, 2001. We remember the victims as well as the heroism of first responders, the service members who continue to protect us, and the incredible unity we felt as a nation in the aftermath of the attacks. (1/3)

On that terrible day, America came under attack. The world rallied around us. This anniversary is a call to rededicate ourselves to these shared values that have always defined us as a nation. (2/3)

We must remember 9/11. We must give better support to first responders. Our nation’s transportation systems and ports must be secure. Our intelligence agencies must be able to tell the truth. And we must strengthen our diplomacy around the world. (3/3)

Roughly 250,000 Washingtonians are about to see another big spike in their health insurance costs because Republicans passed a bill that made health care more expensive and failed to extend critical financial assistance. (1/2)

Republicans are suddenly waking up to the urgent need for tough AI safety rules, a sharp reversal from last year when House Republicans and Chairman Cruz tried to impose a 10-year moratorium on state AI regulations that the tech bros wanted. (1/3)

Meaningful legislation would require the most powerful AI models undergo testing by scientists and experts at our national laboratories to assess whether they could enable sophisticated cyberattacks or aid the development of biological or nuclear weapons. (3/3)

Today, on #LaborDay, we honor the hard-working Americans who are so vital to our economy. To create opportunities for the future, we must continue to invest in our workers and protect their rights.

The statue unveiled today depicts their unforgettable flag raising, honors the victims of 9/11, and will remind generations of baseball fans of the pervading sense of community that Americans felt in the aftermath of the attacks. (2/2)

Repealing the outdated trade laws this Administration is abusing is the best way to end these senseless trade wars before they cause irreparable damage to our economy and alliances. (2/2)

Today, on #WomensEqualityDay, we honor the women who fought tirelessly for the right to vote. Our democracy – and our country – is stronger because it includes women’s voices.

The Constitution clearly says the States should administer elections. The federal government should not weaponize the US Postal System to decide who will receive a mail-in ballot and whose vote will be counted. (2/3)
