Every single adult human *could* choose kindness. In case you’re wondering why human society is so cruel; our choices literally make our society. And when we happily choose violence against nonhuman animals, expect violence against human animals too. We are all #animals, in the end. #vhemt #vegan

It's finally time! Always my first bloom; Bloodroot (Sanguinaria canadensis) in the forest. I can breed them indoors, the minute I put them out unguarded....eaten. I shall continue to enjoy them in their natural environment until I figure out the secret plant keeping them safe in the wild.

Mountain goat (Oreamnos americanus). While their specialized hoofs have evolved for climbing, it’s still amazing how they can climb a shear mountainside so fast. #wildlife #biology #photo #nature

The fact that food banks even exist is proof that successive governments have failed in their duties. Food banks are a privately funded bandaid used to cover inadequate government programs. That the bandaid itself is now failing means the government is failing Canadians more than ever before.

My bloodroot is blooming!! Native Americans, including the Cherokee, Algonquin, and Ponca, used the orange-red sap of bloodroot (Sanguinaria canadensis) primarily for dyes, body paint, and traditional medicine.

Many weather stations across the southern two thirds of the U.S. are already logging a record number of 80°F (and even 85°F+) days this year. This really highlights to me the extreme nature of the warmth in March, with many areas already seeing summer-like heat. Graphic from: sercc.com

Have you seen this yet? This is wrong. Parliament is supposed to be a civic space — the one room in this country where every faith, and no faith, stands on equal ground.

A few more looks at my furry little friends. I have at least three red-backed voles who have made a home in the giant snowbank next to my back deck. They come out at dawn and dusk. Taken while sitting on the deck with my big lens balanced on my knee so I could manually focus. #mammals 🌿

Red Kite and Raven at Fawsley yesterday. There were two very vocal Ravens, neither of whom came close. My Red Kite sightings may all have been of the same bird, but I got the feeling there was more than one around. #OnePlaceStudy #Birds #UKWildlife 🌿

#NativePlants new foliage popping up in my garden just before this week’s snow. #4 Thalictrum dioicum (Early Meadowrue) I believe based on location plus looser form & purplish stems, though it can look similar to young Aquilegia foliage. #gardening #NoSpray #ecosystem #UrbsInHorto #Chicago 🌱
