Too bad London didnโ€™t consult NYC about cycle lanes on Oxford St before they closed it off to cars and are forcing cyclists to dismount. They did such a great job with Broadway just north of Union Square. Although to be clear, Iโ€™m not really familiar with Oxford St. www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/cq...

bbc.co.ukOxford Street: Stretch of famous London road becomes pedestrian onlyAlmost a kilometre of the famous shopping street is now closed to cars, buses, taxis and bicycles.

If I were talking to someone on the phone who was in a public area and they had me on speaker phone, Iโ€™d kindly ask them to call me back. Of course, the sound from the speaker is so distorted and you canโ€™t really understand a thing the person on the speaker is saying.

I got a 7 day transit pass here that includes everything including ferry (pretty far too), commuter trains and regional buses. But to get off at the airport station, itโ€™s $15. So I took a commuter train to a station close by, then got on a bus and it didnโ€™t cost me a thing and didnโ€™t take much longr

I guess itโ€™s good the Stockholm Tunnelbana has a bunch of multi platform stations so riders can switch between lines on the south side of the city centre, but unfortunately not for north of the centre. That central station is really busy. I try to avoid going into it if I can.

Two kind of buses here, the blue ones are more frequent and the red ones are less frequent. You can enter any door for the blue buses, but canโ€™t for the red buses, I guess unless someone is exiting the backdoors. I just got on a red bus with a lot of people and we all had to go thru the front.

Interesting piece of bus infrastructure I came across tonight. This street has two lanes in direction: one bus lane in the left lane, general purpose traffic in the right lane & 1 lane in the other direction. But widens to four lanes with these bus stop platforms in the middle.

Seems like the diversion is a little confusing. A driver got confused and ended up in the bus lanes, then these lights started flashing yellow and it made a noise. Not sure if it took a photo of the car. Almost caused a crash because there was another driver tailing them.

In another part of Stockholm, centre island bus platforms are on opposite sides of the intersection. You can also see one of these delivery dudes who decided to stop in the intersection to check his order. Absolute menaces all over the city.

Had an amazing day biking around Stockholm for 4 and a half hours. Really good bike infrastructure. Some gaps here and there, but you can tell theyโ€™ve made some really nice recent improvements. They really try to keep bike lanes open during construction.

We are SO THRILLED that New York City has passed the Romanch's Law banning horse-drawn carriage rides! These horses were living in deplorable conditions and made to work hours upon hours a day, and had very little vet care. We are so excited to finally see them be free!

My ranking for the three principal cities of Scandinavia: Oslo Copenhagen Stockholm And this is only based on these stupid motor scooters. Theyโ€™re everywhere in Stockholm and theyโ€™re really loud and stinky. I didnโ€™t seem to encounter them in Oslo, seems like most deliveries are done via ebike.

Also, I came across them not as much in Copenhagen, but they were definitely annoying. I would have to wait until they were far enough away from so I didnโ€™t have to smell their stink exhaust. But Copenhagen clearly has the best bike infrastructure.

Prob took Waymo >20 min to clear their robot. The location was ~mile from Waymo's main and best staffed SF depot, so ~walking speed time to repair. This kind of incident should be regulated to the level of near prohibition, imo, but few regulators require reporting. Over trust and don't verify.

This was so crazy. This bus stop on the E18. I mean I guess we have bus stops on motorways in NJ, but this is like an interstate highway in a sense. I saw there was a Tunnelbana station right next to it, so of course I had to get off.

Itโ€™s too bad they ended this pilot. Almost everyone admits double parking is a problem, but the mayor said โ€œit was confusingโ€. Just say โ€œitโ€™s unfair to luxury SUV driversโ€. Meanwhile, the 4th most popular bus line in NJ is delayed by these persecuted luxury SUV drivers.

There was a camera-based enforcement initiative that was incredibly popular, but it was โ€œconfusingโ€. These confused people double park on Washington and slow down the 126 and other Hoboken buses so they ended it in December. ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ www.hobokennj.gov/resources/au...

Bye New Jersey! ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿฝ One more ride on NJ Transit Route 320 to NYC! Highly recommend looking into hotels in Secaucus if the ones in NYC are too expensive. This route operates every 10-15 mins. and it connects several chained-brand hotels, a park & ride lot & the Port Authority Bus Terminal. ๐ŸšŒ

Great example. This truck needs to park to make a delivery, but someone is illegally parked in the loading zone. So drivers have to get up on the sidewalk to get around the truck. Shortly after taking this photo, I walked past this truck and that driver in the car drove up behind me on the sidewalk

Imagine if instead these were failing Republican business owners who owned diners. Democrats in Trenton would have handed them $25k in tax credits.

The โ€œfix-itโ€ bill bike advocates have been waiting for to repair the flawed e-bike law was introduced this week by Sen. Raj Mukherji. But itโ€™s too late for some. Three dozen bike shops have closed in NJ since the new e-bike law was passed, and more are expected to close.

Metro broke ground today on the Vermont Bus Rapid Transit project btwn Sunset Blvd in Hollywood & 120th St in South LA ๐ŸšŒ The project adds 12.4 miles of dedicated bus lanes for faster, more reliable trips (more)

The subway system here in Stockholm is crazy. All the lines meet at the central station. Itโ€™s total chaos transferring between lines. I would have yelled at two people who were walking slowly down the left side of the stairs as they were looking at their phones, if I were in NY. But Iโ€™m a guest so..

Spent the day on a 7 hour FlixBus ride from Oslo to Stockholm. Really wasnโ€™t that bad. It was pretty spacious and nobody sat next to me. I have no idea why there doesnโ€™t seem to be direct train service between these two cities.

The driver of the semi is honking his horn at a legally parked car.

On Monday, a BJ's 53' tractor trailer drove down 2nd & Coles + got stuck. This is not a legal truck route. Trucks are large, have blindspots + kill at more than 2X the rate of other vehicles. Jersey City needs to enforce existing truck laws and increase fines on trucks not traveling on truck routes.

I did not think I would have so much fun biking here in Oslo. It doesnโ€™t have the caliber of bike lanes that Copenhagen has, but there doesnโ€™t seem like there is as much car traffic. Lots of hills though, that makes it fun.

Today I took metro line 4 & 69 bus out to this lake. This was wee bit more dodgy than yesterdayโ€™s trip. Apple Maps said it was a 20 minute worked, which turned out to be an hour of confusing treacherous forest trails where I nearly slipped, tripped and twisted my ankle. But it was all worth it.

Really interesting. The 320 bus stops at a bunch of hotels in Secaucus, then the North Bergen P&R then heads into the Port Authority. Hope NJ Transit is making money off of this.

It was my first time riding on an NJ Transit express bus last night! It was packed when we left Port Authority Bus Terminal in NYC since it serves multiple hotels in Secaucus. My hotel was near the end of the line so I was the only one left ๐Ÿ˜…๐ŸšŒ

#JCcrashes ๐Ÿ˜ก Montgomery & Merseles. This morning a high schooler crossing Montgomery was hit by a motorcycle. This is an important school route, but Montgomery & Merseles is a wide, fast, and dangerous intersection, and the crossing guard often tells students to run when crossing. /

SafeStreetsJC@safestreetsjerseycity.org

#JCcrashes Yet another crash tonight. Two-car crash at Summit and Montgomery. We don't know details, but we know that one-ways reduce crash danger by eliminating dangerous conflicted left-turns, the most common danger at intersections.

Here in Oslo, just saw a group of 4 young fare inspectors get off at the bus stop I was at. Then got on another bus. Then I got on the next bus and they got on at the next stop. It was very easy and efficient. Especially on a corridor with multiple lines.

Stephen Jacob Smith@stephenjacobsmith.com

These MTA fare inspections on buses look like a total clown show. Bus stopped, extremely slow to inspect each fare, arguing with riders rather than just fining them, letting people go back to pay before you check them. I do not have faith in the MTA to really pull off citywide proof-of-payment.
