You make the choice to do individual actions because it’s a choice you can make, not because you believe your actions will outweigh those of big organizations.

Oh they got this all wrong “no, more war!”

Q: How are you going to lower gas prices? James Talarico: I've laid out a plan to suspend the federal gas tax and diesel tax, which would immediately drop the price of gas by 18 cents a gallon for Texans.

I’ve been reading old copies of Animato! for reasons and it keeps leaping out to me how bad the animation scene was back in the day. Obviously we’re in a bad spot right now but wow there’s so much more stuff out there of better quality than the 80s.

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

fucked up how he always be doing that

Nintendo of America [Twitter/X Mirror]@nintendoamericax.bsky.social

The evil Ganondorf is scheming to steal the mythical Triforce from the Sacred Realm and take over the world. Take up your sword, become the Hero of Time, and save the Kingdom of Hyrule in The Legend of #Zelda: #OcarinaOfTime, coming exclusively to Nintendo Switch 2 on Nov 5.

From what I recall reading interviews he made more or less an ok salary in syndicated comics (also he lived in a time when housing was cheap in an especially cheap area) but the book sales are what let him negotiate a sabbatical and be aggressive about merchandising.

adam@kumerish.bsky.social

i am grateful to live in a world without Calvin & Hobbes’ faces being plastered on shitty merchandise, but watterson also lived in a bygone era where there was the slimmest insitutional chance of a cartoonist making enough (or more than enough!) just from a comic strip.

It’s so funny they think they can pull this off after it didn’t work at all against Barack Hussein Obama

The real thing is once you get into that territory you're competing with PCs that can play a lot more games and don't lock you into a platform. That's why the nextbox is a handheld, they think it will distinguish it from PC. Unlikely, imo.

Ty Schalter@tyschalter.com

people have paid that much (or more) for consoles in the past, adjusted for inflation. but you lose the “every middle-class kid has one” market in the process—and like the ps5/unlike the series x, the “adult enthusiast” market will have to believe it’s worth the money

Oh, no, that shit is cooked by spring next year. There'll be some new shit I'm sure but the data centers are never coming online.

Jessie Gender@jessiegender.bsky.social

Oligarchs will keep burning our planet to build an AI god that will never come. Politicians will keep serving capital as the world burns. But I’m not pessimistic about humanity, only our institutions. We can still build beautiful communities rooted in care, solidarity, and lives worth living.

Street fighter movie was great tbh. Weirdly horny, bogged down by repetitive emotional scenes, I was checking my phone bc it felt like I'd been in there forever but it was only like an hour in. Exactly like a good wrestling show. Baller soundtrack.

We pioneered what we're calling 'Distributed Development', a bold new corporate strategy where we pay workers less money

Star Wars: Galactic Racer was made by a core team of 75 people. "What we wanted to do was keep that core small, smaller than perhaps you might have done in the past, and scale capacity and capability with what we call distributed development." https://bit.ly/4hT02qg

This is what the Divest in BDS is about btw. Lotta these colleges still invested in heinous stuff, will only respond when forced to respond.

The entire premise of trying to get votes from republicans and moderating on issues is based on the idea that it’s impossible to translate non-voters into voters and your only votes will come from people who already voted. It’s stupid.

I’m sorry to have to be the bad guy here but we need to recognize that we live in a compressed air thrusters world now. If you’re not finding ways to teach the critical use of compressed air thrusters in your classroom, you’re setting your students up to fail when you could be setting them up to fly

Every time I mention sortition people get all "what if a terrible person ends up in the position" and man they're getting in there through straight up elections we're not doing that much better than nepotism by divine right.

Andrew Lawrence@ndrew.bsky.social

i think we can come up with a better system than putting a drug addled, pedophile dipshit with no grip on reality in charge of defense satellites

It's probably because of all those little slutty half-gloves they're wearing.

Jess Fink🍉🌈@jessfink.bsky.social

People talk a lot about foot fetishists, but nobody talks about how artists are all sickos for hands. Anyone who draws the human form regularly goes absolutely wolf-howl sicko mode over a well drawn hand. It's like an entire body on it's own, artists are out here hubba-hubba-ing and awooga-ing

under-discussed in this kind of space is how anti-hispanic/anti-immigration sentiment functions by tying it to your actual problems ("immigrants stole your job") but they haven't found a way to tie transness back to a real world concern outside of "my kid won't get sports scholarship."

Micah@rincewind.run

my take on this remains consistent: far more americans are bigoted on this front than I'd like, but transphobia is a luxury belief it's the kind of thing you can get people mad about if and only if they don't have real problems to worry about, and there is no shortage of real problems right now

There’s no actual evidence of this you just keep seeing people who work in the industry desperate to turn a buck on this stuff say it over and over. Snake oil salesmen: “snake oil works.”

ceej@ceej.online

I think it’s important for anyone who (completely understandably) checked out on AI the second the crypto/nft/metaverse/snake oil chuds started pushing it to realize that, in at least the domain of software development, we are very much living in a scenario where the snake oil actually works

She condemned the Biden U.S. arms deal with Israel, and as retaliation the Biden administration opened an investigation against her. The Trump administration is actually piggybacking off that Democratic investigation. Both parties are cesspools of Islamophobia.

Mark Garner@markgarner.bsky.social

Another reason to be thankful, on this Canadian Thanksgiving, that I'm north of the border. It would perhaps be edifying, however, to inquire exactly where the fuck the Democratic Congressional "Leadership" is. Oh, wait, silly me, she's Muslim so they won't lift a finger to help her.

This is the number one reason to avoid this AI shit like a plague in any project you're working on, btw. You do not, on anything you actually care about, want to establish a dependency on a vendor that is both burning cash and also hasn't figured out pricing.

Ethan Hein@ethanhein.bsky.social

A lot of amateur interest in Suno will disappear when they stop burning VC cash and start charging what it costs. If every prompt is $30, that's going to cut down on my wife's boss generating whimsical ditties about tax law.

I kinda don't like doing these bc I play a ton of games. How am I gonna pick nine? Whatever, I free associated nine in a row.

the cybersecurity part is the most frustrating because mainly what's happening is these guys are getting away with their botnets being allowlisted by other tech dipshits who wanna participate in this stuff despite their obvious bad actions.

Dr Abeba Birhane@abeba.blacksky.app

over the past few weeks several AI evaluation/cybersecurity experts have explained how what's happening is a result of human incompetence rather than "AI going rogue". I'm begging the media to show a shred of journalistic integrity and stop parroting what altman or amodei say

(that's every human organization from the entire culture down to your local book club)

The Xbox reset doesn't have an end date, says Rob Fahey. Originally announced as spanning the "next hundred days", the reorganisation has now stretched past that with no end in sight, and no coherent vision of what comes next https://bit.ly/4rtxN6d
