Rhyming with the 1935 Walker Evans #photo about which one commentator, sending it to a steel mill exec, said: "Your cemeteries, your streets, your buildings, your steel mills. But our souls. God damn you!" (quote from Vicki Goldberg's essay "Walker Evans") www.moma.org/collection/w...

Oh well. The original post by @ianbremmer.com was deleted. It was an image of a housing tract next to a data center. Even if the image was not accurate, Evan's image is still quite relevant today, in my opinion.

BREAKING NEWS The 2026 #NobelPrize in Literature is awarded to the Canadian author Anne Carson, “for her bold and inventive oeuvre that, in playful dialogue with the classical tradition, has created new forms for contemporary literature.”

1 in 5 Americans who voted for Trump in 2024 now regret their choice. His approval just hit a new low: 33%. Affordability. Iran. Corruption. Take your pick. Buyer's remorse is a start. Voting is the cure. 32 days.

Humans are doing to humans with AI what humans have always done to animals: treat them as expendable to satisfy their unquenchable thirst for dominance over everything. Society didn't heed the warnings over climate change so I doubt these warnings will have any impact.

Have we seriously reached the point where “there’s a greater than 10% chance this kills everybody” isn’t a stop sign, it’s merely a business risk? www.forbes.com/sites/siladi...

Willem Dafoe seems like a delightful person. Late Fame, which we saw at Walter Reade Theater with director and actors present) was a bit painful to watch but very good. 📽️

Conversation around The Odyssey reminds me of Christopher Logue's "War Music, an Account of the Iliad." There are tanks and uzis and Shakespeare references. It was a "reimagining" for Logue's era, and well regarded. Whether it works for you is one thing, but its fidelity is unimportant, in my view.

Park Chan-wook's #photography exhibition. Love it when movie people are still-photography people, too. He carries a #Leica camera with him everywhere he goes and doesn't really connect filmmaking to his photography. To him they represents polar opposites between the created world and found world.

Rose of Nevada is very much my kind of movie. It felt like it could have been a sequence of still photos within its 24FPS. Really beautifully shot on 16mm (though we saw it DCP) in a tightly wound story, relying on story and what you can do with camera and audio to evoke its emotions. 📽️
