There is a moment at the very very end of Abdul El-Sayed's podcast with Ezra Klein (book recommendation section) where he talks about the idea of "speaking truth to pain" and this will be staying with me for an extremely long time. www.nytimes.com/2026/09/25/o...

Damnatio memoriae. Tear down all monuments. Remove his name from all buildings. Remove all vestiges of his time in office.

These people are unbelievable…

Fox News complains that underage teenage girls aren’t getting pregnant enough: “The problem is teens and young adults. From ages 15-19, the fertility rate is down 70% in the last 2 decades, which means we are telling people who are young not to have babies.”

The man makes a good point. Too often forgotten.

The whole point of the Bill of Rights is to protect the only true minority - the individual. It limits the governments power to harm the individual. The whole constitution is designed to limit the governments power.

Sounds obvious when you see it writing, yet I’ve never thought about it that way: “The capitalist is […] the man who has arranged not to compete.”

I asked Opus to critique Thiel and the tech far right via Braudel and idk I think this is pretty great

I think it was about the time I was learning about wave functions that I began to understand most of our world exists as distributions and not absolutes. Bimodal, sure. Binary, absolutely not.

Hashime Murayama's skill as an illustrator was one of the reasons why the Pap smear is used in today's cervical cancer screenings. Because of his ethnicity, he was arrested & detained in Ellis Island after Pearl Harbor was bombed. 🧪🐡 #SciArt www.pbs.org/wgbh/america...

Today is National Cancer Survivors Day. Some history in cervical cancer. Once upon a time, cervical cancer was the #1 cause of death in women. The pap smear was invented by George Papanicolau in 1941. It is used to identify abnormal cells under a microscope. 🧪

Jeff Daniel’s is spot on.

#TRAITORTRUMP "We're supposed to elect the best of us, not the worst of us. He's everything that's wrong with not just America but being a human being." Jeff Daniels, on Donald J. Trump

Working in an area chock full of chemical plants and refineries, I can’t help but wonder if Iran has already smuggled the parts or technology to build and launch Shaheed drones in the US? A target rich environment without any apparent defenses. Would suck for us…

Reflecting on Sagan for Easter. So spot on. “Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of this pixel on the scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner…so that, in glory and triumph, they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot.”

Another example why "consider the source" is so important these days. Informative thread.

The 2026 Edelman Trust Barometer is out, and it is one of the most fascinating document of every year (imo). Edelman is a PR company shaping narrative for companies like Exxon & Shell (greenwashing), and uses this doc to push their clients' narratives as 'leaders'. www.edelman.com/trust/2026/t...

Trump tried everything possible to create riots in Los Angeles, Portland and Chicago and failed. Even had film crews in tow to create propaganda videos. Instead they got peaceful resistance and observers. Upped ante in Minnesota hoping for George Floyd murder response. Failed again. Miserably.

So, if I remember my Schoolhouse Rock correctly. Mr. Bill then goes to the Senate and, if they pass it, on to the President’s desk where he has the power to veto it? Where’s the win in this one?

Hakeem Jeffries@hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social

The House just passed legislation to detonate one of the Trump Tariffs that are making your life more expensive. Boom.

The momentum is building. This gives me hope.

Remember when a small number of protestors shouting "Shame" drove off ICE goons who were trying to snatch the people working at their favorite restaurant? Almost 250 days ago. Now entire cities do it. In -10 degree weather. www.youtube.com/shorts/I0kq0...

“Kinetic action”. Am I the only one that thinks it’s one of the dumbest terms to come along in a while? Is there a static action? Call it what it is - the use of military force.

How does launching air strikes and a commando raid fall under the remit of self defense for an arrest operation

The problem is most people lack the capacity to, or won’t, play the tape forward to its logical end. Actions have consequences.

Replying to @juliedicaro.bsky.social

So in one courtroom the DOJ is arguing that a sandwich thrown into an armor-wearing officer is a forcible assault while simultaneously in another courtroom DOJ says tackling protestors or shooting them in the head with less lethal munitions does not count as use of force. One rule for thee...

How many people are willing to risk everything for our democracy? Personally, I think we have to bring them to their knees financially to have any impact. Which probably means significant financial discomfort and risk for everyone.

A protest alone doesn’t. But it builds the movement that does.

iliag.bsky.social@iliag.bsky.social

A protest by itself doesn't fix things, but neither does doing nothing. I have to do what I can, when I can, and today that means marching and chanting and showing that there are millions of us across the country who oppose this administration #nokings #nokingsportland
