My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.

Quit a telemarketing job for the New Haven Symphony after three nights. I had called one of my former professors, who told me that he gave up his two season tickets after his wife died of cancer recently. Too painful. My supervisor got angry that I didn't keep pushing him to resubscribe.

Last month, we refurbished 10 tennis courts in Crotona Park — the only public tennis courts in the Bronx with lights for night play. We stopped by recently to see how things were going. Thank you to NYJTL, USTA and Yonex for helping us deliver high-quality public spaces that New Yorkers deserve.
