I sell grindset podcasts to evil villains to have their henchmen listen to. Like an even more misanthropic Mary Kay

kinda thinking that various clandestine supervillain and metal gear-ass military operations do guard hiring the same kind of way Target does, intentionally trying to sift through to find the personality types who very much actually buy into "we're like a family here"

Saw the UMD student production of Mr Burns: A Post-Electric Play and I will say that it was conceptually interesting if the execution left a little to be desired. Overall a cromulent afternoon at the theater.

Robert Nozick: Utilitarian theory is embarrassed by the possibility of utility monsters who get enormously greater sums of utility from any sacrifice of others than these others lose. Effective Altruists: We are in a polycule with the utility monster.

The Canadians, realizing they could completely destroy the Republican Party in November by shutting down oil exports and driving us gasoline to $9/gal

Kind of want to make a list of movies that are before things that actually happen yet become better understood by subsequent events. Like how Starship Troopers and Three Kings are both pre 9/11 movies.

I want to see more fantasy worlds where wizards start to find their jobs threatened by advances in firearms. A battery of cannons is expensive and clunky, but it can do as much damage or more as any spell in the D&D player manual. Benefit of not being gatekept by a small cabal of magic users too.

Having finished a replay recently I think one reason everyone got mad but are too cowardly to say it was because they really wanted a Return of the Jedi style ending and the game went with a downer ending instead.

All right, here’s why I think this. In the series, you play as Shepard, an officer in the human military as part of a galactic alliance. In the first game, you discover an enemy called the reapers are coming to attack the galaxy (nobody believes you), and you have to stop them.

"after talking to local sports parents, I realized the urgent need for Congressional legislation about coaches who don't realize how good some of their players are, because they aren't getting them into the game. we also must take action against referees, who aren't letting the boys play out there"

There's a lot I would like to say about this (you might say a whole book's worth even!), but I'm be brief. The idea of beef as a human right is indeed a core part US political culture. It was a so-called right that was actually delivered, thus reifying its existence.

It's very funny that the people who would insist to you that climate change was caused by 100 companies also insisted to you that cheap beef was more or less a human right

This post has inspired me to finally write that movie about the parents of the teams that lost to Air Bud suing to get those wins vacated. Unsung heroes.

I say this with no ill will or animosity: if you hate the Democratic Party, then please don’t run for our nomination. Don’t use our resources. Don’t rely on our volunteers. Don’t use our infrastructure. Don’t ask Democrats to invest their time, money, and energy in your campaign.

Seeing a bunch of people describe AI lowering barriers like Uber, Lyft, Airbnb, crypto, ghost kitchens, etc. were also pitched as lowering barriers and I gotta wonder what people think will be different this time?

I want the Menswear guy to watch this movie and talk about it. Does LaKeith Stanfield dress well?

I Love Boosters is so visually striking and the actors are so funny with great chemistry that it's worth having someone with a vape pen explaining dialectical materialism to you.

Both a blessing and a curse that horror movies are the only current film genre where you can regularly grapple with complex emotions and feelings while having people actually watch it. (No, I will not see Obsession but I have been told a lot about it.)

I just saw The Sheep Detectives, and I have never been more surprised by a film in my life. I expected a silly, dumb little film, and what I got was not that in the slightest in the best way.

This is a thread for historians: Our most important use of our professional skills is informing the public of our shared past, especially at times like this. Human histories of the costs of Jim Crow, what this all means in accessible terms, it needs to get out. Resources and publication options:

If any Supreme Court is going to rule that Catholics aren't Christian, it would be this one though.

It would be very funny for Catholic DOD employees to sue Hegseth for religious discrimination. The fact that these guys are dependent on a Supreme Court with 6 Catholic justices seems to have escaped their attention. www.huffpost.com/entry/news-l...

Oddly enough, people who thought NFL 2K5 was better than Madden is represented on both sites.

The solution is we need to convince Dick Wolf to do a Chicago: Small Claims Court to rehabilitate civil litigation

Luigi de Guzman@ouij.bsky.social

The administration has a very easy time of this because most Americans think “courts are for crime.” The distinction between civil and criminal justice is just not meaningful for most normies.

If Star Wars should teach us anything, it's that we're all happier when less stuff is canon and the bulk of the material is on the fringes.
