Pinning this to my profile in case: If you don’t see me... I don’t HAVE to post. Nobody has a responsibility to stay online against their own best interests just so people you really don’t know very well won’t worry about you. That’s a fucked up way to live.

My family have decided to do Secret Santa for the 1st time Fine. Let’s save 💰 BUT… They have nixed the idea my youngest sister and I favoured, to be assigned a giftee. We have to buy a random gift for $50 or under This SUCKS. Also, my parents are divorced. This means two Secret Santa pools

I’ve really got to an age where I hear an actor’s name everywhere - in this instance, Glen Powell - and even after looking him up, I have absolutely no idea who he is I loved Top Gun: Maverick. Do you think I can remember him in it? Nope. Not for the LIFE of me. I’ll immediately forget him, too.

I watched The Graduate for the first time Like so many classics, especially those embedded in our culture, it’s not quite what I expected I mean, the plot basically is but it’s weirder than I thought and brilliantly directed I never liked Dustin Hoffman but I can’t imagine anyone else in the role

What a difference a day makes! All I did was remove a thick layer of fat once it had chilled in the fridge overnight. Added more beans and the rest of the duck. Back into the oven with a layer of breadcrumbs… 🥲 It’s good. It’s really good.

Sheldon@brokenstarfish.bsky.social

I did it. Finished some hours ago. It’s a little too salty. I’m going to get more beans tomorrow and add them. I had meant to order more for it. Otherwise… really delicious.

While none of the techniques here will be difficult, I do expect this to take at least two or three days to put together.

This is so easily solved… Get a feeding station. I have one as a wheelchair user because I can’t easily reach the floor. A side table will do. I mean, the cat will still be on the kitchen bench… you can’t do anything about it. You could try training it to go to a small bed or blanket on the bench 🤷‍♂️

Forget the last suggestion. You can’t train a cat. I just scream “HOT” at mine if she’s putting herself or me in danger, especially around the stovetop. She will jump off in fright… and do it again

Just so we’re clear, when he talks about “…denying biological reality when it comes to… choosing your partner…” and this violating people’s rights, I am certain he is talking about the mythical “trans woman as rapist”, who would rape women in every single sex space available, given half a chance.

David Clegg@delphijunkie.bsky.social

Confirmed: David Seymour is a transphobe (From www.tickaroo.com/e/H0oz5xl7oE...)

I think it’s important that we all appreciate just what he’s saying and implying here. He’s not talking about gay relationships. He’s talking about the public cost of “trans deception” and apparent self delusion, and how us existing in public spaces is impinging on other people’s rights too much.

Pay attention to the ableism being thrown around with respect to Christina Applegate finding out she doesn’t have MS. People acting like it’s a relief or a blessing. Like she’s “better off now”. She’s still sick. She’s just sick without answers. I guarantee it’s not a “relief” for her.

I’m going on strike this afternoon with my Tertiary Education Union comrades. Tertiary and vocational education is vital to this country. A well-funded sector is an investment in our future. And we need secure, decently-paid work.

For spooky month, there is no item that sparks the imagination like the Vampire Hunting Kit. You may have seen supposedly victorian kits like this one, bought by the Royal Armories in 2012. But all vampire hunting kits are a hoax, and not older than the 50s-70s monster movies than inspired them.

Good. Still wish journalists would get a lot better at also pointing out that no matter how long government formation takes, we have robust and well-tested 'caretaker' provisions to ensure the essential work of government is done. #nzpol

RNZ's Craig McCulloch is,so far, the only commentator to point out the obvious: "Asked about the possibility of coalition talks dragging past Christmas, McCulloch noted the irony of Luxon being quite happy to put new restrictions on voting in order to speed up the process, ..." (1)

The baby magpie has fledged! I photographed them right as they overbalanced, panicked, and fell off the branch. They flew a very wobbly circle with mama in hot pursuit, holding their tail feathers, until they were safely in another tree 😂😂😂😂

Just finished Fruit Fly by Josh Silver. THAT was exactly the book I didn’t know I needed. Really excellent. A magnificent satirical take on literary torture porn and exploitation, among other things.

Masculinist politics & the promise of "remasculinization" have migrated from the political fringes toward the centre. The manosphere has shifted the framing of gender policy debates from the margins into both far-right & mainstream conservative politics...2/

Listening to the audiobook of Fruit Fly. So far it’s really good. I love the concept, I love the humour and digs at an industry (writing and publishing) that centres marginalised people, while it exploits them.

My rent was, like, $100 and $80 and $120 (for a place in the city) in the early 2000s. There were places a lot cheaper if you were prepared to share a cold and damp villa. Money went a long way, too. Unbelievably, $5 could still get you a decent feed.

it seems to shock the New Zealand government that Peter Jackson, Taika Waititi, and the Conchords etc all emerged from the same city in the same span, which coincidentally is when Wellington rent was dirt-cheap and there were heaps of empty industrial buildings around

The only men who should be allowed to just chat on a podcast are the Three Bean Salad guys. Everyone else… you are allowed to talk to your friends and not have it be a podcast episode. My WORD there are some boring chats out there!!

In the Dutch tulip fields, Monet was astonished by the colors. “I could never have believed that such colours existed,” he said in admiration.
