I think that a lot of commonplace wisdom can actually be great advice if it weren't always spouted off ad nauseam so as to not be taken seriously anymore.

You don't need to actually smoke the thing to ash a cigarette out of a car window

I'm back on my programming bullshit, but I've been very displeased with the experience of using github recently. I think I'll take things into my own hands and have that stuff hosted on my own website once that's happening.

drinking hot drinks like coffee and tea most of the time remains an effective method of tricking myself into (indirectly) drinking more water

listening back at this and still (mostly) happy with the mix and arrangement. Can't say that for a lot of other stuff I've done, but actually put the time in for this one.

Just now learned that Bleak House (the NWOBHM band) made a comeback this year with the Tyrant EP. Having a listen right now, it's pretty good.

dude there's a reason people tell you to practice your scales, I actually feel like I've gotten substantially better over the past few weeks

Finally got an audio interface that isn't a piece of shit, because we're getting serious about this now. Big Things™ are happening soon.

My dreams under usual circumstamces are so realistic and so believable that when I get fever dreams I imagine it's like what other people's dreams are usually like

I've been gaslit into thinking I don't know how to play in time because my daw keeps very strangely compensating for 25ms of IO latency that isn't there. More at seven.

This thing rips, I can see why so many people swear by focusrite interfaces. I have a lot of things to re-record but I feel I'm making progress much faster nowadays.

Pairing this thing with an amp head sim gets me tones that feel very much like the ones I've gotten from other plugins, which makes sense because in theory they're doing the exact same thing, but I'm just so juiced about learning how these things work. Feels a bit more like *I* made that happen.

the current longest source file for VAS is also by far the most poorly written, I can probably cut down its length by a factor of like 2/3

I want to learn how to do more things. Perpetually. Currently on the itinerary, drawing by hand, photography (some of which you've been seeing).

Elon Musk's net worth is now estimated to be over 1 trillion USD. If you're not sure how to put that in perspective, there are an estimated 36.8 million people in the USA living in poverty (in 2023, census.gov). If you have $1 trillion under your mattress, you can afford to give each of them $27K.

A couple days ago I made the mistake of booting up Elite Dangerous again, and when the game failed to launch, I used the "Validate Files" option in the launcher. I still don't understand how, but doing this deleted several files in two different directories that I know of in my home directory. (1/3)

months ago. I still don't know if these two were the only directories affected since my system doesn't log file deletions. I am fucking pissed. (3/3)

One was ".config", which wasn't a huge problem since my dotfiles are version controlled with git and whatnot, but I only realized today that the directory named "sessions" was also affected. This is where all of my Ardour sessions usually go, and I now have to work from a backup I made two (2/3)

Of all the strange activities I spend my spare time on programming consistently seems like the most fulfilling one, yet every so often I still forget just how much joy it brings me and I go weeks without doing much of it. I think there's something wrong with me.

My audio plugins are misbehaving again. It could be because of my frankensteined system setup, but it's gotta be someone else's fault, right?

holding the aperture lever by hand has been working much better, actually. easier to control than I imagined it would be.

more spider photos coming soon. I now know how to manually set the aperture on my lens when reverse mounting which was holding me back far more than I realized. The one from last night was taken with a piece of scotch brand cellophane tape over the aperture lever, pretty effective.
