The case for coding by hand, even if it is slower: www.youtube.com/watch?v=t95-... There are more metrics and aspects to care about when writing code than speed alone. Plus coding by hand is fun! I ramble on a bit about why and cases where it's really important to do so
Here's the podcast episode with MP3 file for those who prefer to listen outside of YouTube! show.brettcodes.com/episodes/12-...
I was happy to be a guest on DonTheDevelopers's podcast to talk about why I stopped using AI for coding. It was great to be able to dive deeper on a bunch of different topics relating to that decision. www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Eaq...

i recorded an over-the-shoulder video of me coding a zero-dependency static website and podcast feed generator in Ruby from scratch: www.youtube.com/watch?v=pZy4... ruby is a great fit for these types of projects since it has robust templating, file utils, and YAML parsing built into the stdlib
the resulting project is a podcast feed for my rambling monologues, which i've titled The Brett Codes Show if anyone prefers listening via an independent source rather than YouTube: show.brettcodes.com
I wrote about why I set up a podcast feed and rolled my own site generator: brettcodes.com/introducing-... the gist: super low cost, aligned with my values, and fun!
i made video showing my ai-free dev setup and tools: www.youtube.com/watch?v=13Qs... unlike me, it's stable and boring (that's my 2nd joke I've ever made, thank you); helix, tmux, terminal, gram! that's basically it. a little bit of ripgrep if i'm feeling spicy
I wrote about why the Deno runtime was left to die, what led to those circumstances, and why Cloudflare and Ryan Dahl can and should do more to support the project in the long-term: brettcodes.com/the-disappoi... But my biggest takeaway: I'm done with VC-backed open source.
I made a ramble video about the death of Deno for those who prefer to watch/listen! youtu.be/H14vBu0IccM
i made a member video talking about burn out, switching to elementary OS, the death of Deno, and the fun small net coding i've been doing www.youtube.com/watch?v=ir2_...
I got interviewed by LeadDev about why I stopped using AI for coding. Great read with others' perspectives too leaddev.com/ai/meet-the-...
rambling about The Reverse Centaur's Guide to Life After AI, talking about the Humancrafted forum, and what else I'm reading www.youtube.com/watch?v=u_Bf...
the first week of the humancrafted forum has been really awesome and positive, lots of thoughtful discussion. you can join it here! humancrafted.dev/forum
i made a member vid showing off my office (a.k.a. the laundry room) and my current computing hardware youtu.be/7D5SBEFqI3g?...
I wrote about my plan for the next 3 months, sharing some numbers about going indie and YouTube earnings, as well as what I'm going to focus on brettcodes.com/my-plan-for-...
I made a member-only ramble video version about my plan for the next 3 months as well! www.youtube.com/watch?v=vLhc...
i put on a button up to deliver this message in video form to the big wigs youtu.be/g0jjNoR09Tc
i reflected on my failings as an engineering leader integrating AI into my team (before i quit it entirely); the result is beware: chronicling over 30 real risks from first-hand experience of using LLMs on a software team brettcodes.com/beware/

i recorded a ramble vid reflecting on 15 years of using Ruby on Rails unknowingly of the morning before before the keynote where DHH announced Rails is dead; my vid would seem weird to publish publicly in the wake of that, so i made it a member-only vid: youtu.be/XCZ_AzKHraE
I wrote about why I switched to the Helix editor after 14 years of Vim and why I'm largely loving it after five months! brettcodes.com/the-curious-...

i made a member vid talking about stop omarchy, dhh's dingbat keynote, and a look at the various stuff i'm coding and working on! www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eb0v...

Usagi v1.3.3 has been released with a fix for gamepads on web not working and a new `gfx.text_ex` spacing arg; full details at: codeberg.org/brettchalupa... Update with `usagi update` or download the latest executable!
the source for podbud is open and public domain, like much of my work; but i'd be suspect of there being any weirdos other than me who would want to use this 🤣 codeberg.org/brettchalupa...
