Exciting news. I’m lucky enough to have seen a preview screening, and I can tell you that the concert is sensational. Bowie and the band are on blistering form. Brett Morgen and his team have done a magnificent job: sound and vision painstakingly restored and remastered. It’s going to be amazing.

Always interesting to read American perspectives on Oasis, and when the American in question is this chap, it's kind of essential really

puzzled on why i found a movie of a band I've always been "yeah they're ok, fine" about so moving--it's a documentary of collective hope and loss in the 2020s as much as it is a rock star reunion www.patreon.com/chrisoleary/...

I'm struck by the way fans are at the centre of a few of these comebacks - see Suede as well. Their approaches differ of course, but in both cases, it feels like more than just cashing in on nostalgia - there's something meaningful going on

If you buy only two new Bowie books this year, then make sure Alex's is one of them (I have some ideas for the other one but I'll leave it with you) And it would be lovely to see you in Stratford next week - you never know, there may well be a punch-up about the Lord's Prayer

I am incredibly proud of this book. A genuinely fascinating read. And it’s out now in paperback I will be talking to Alex and @bowiegod.bsky.social about the many lives of David Bowie at the Stratford Literary Festival next week Come join us: www.stratfordliteraryfestival.co.uk/events/peter...

Grateful to Desmond and the good folks at Northern Soul for this kind write-up of my talk at Ilkley Literature Festival (and glad my Suede t-shirt is getting some attention)

Back from a wonderful time at Wells Festival of Literature. Wonderful audience, wonderful questions, wonderful conversations. Chris Salmon is an expert interlocutor; we bonded over shared love of Brannigans Beef & Mustard crisps. And this is how the cathedral looked as the sun began to set

Superb book, this. Suede were the first band I properly fell in love with, and the fact they're still going at all is pretty amazing. But they're redefining what it means to be a band of their vintage in the 2020s, and @rodgeglass.bsky.social captures this so well. See 'em live if you can

Only just seen this: Bowie in 1993 'arguing that violence is justified in extreme circumstances' against racism/fascism and saying he'd 'retaliate physically with every last breath of my body' if his loved ones were targeted (pic from Bowie Fascination FB group)

I’m delighted to say I’ll be appearing at a few literary festivals this month. It would be lovely to see you if you can make it along to one or more of them - details coming up

And the third is in Warwickshire, at Stratford Literary Festival on Saturday October 31. V happy to be joined there by Alexander Larman - his superb Lazarus: The Second Coming of David Bowie focuses on Bowie’s career from the early 1990s onwards www.stratfordliteraryfestival.co.uk/events/peter...

Thanks again to everyone who’s already bought my book, written a review, attended an event, sent me a message, posted about it online, told friends about it in person - whatever you’ve done to support it, I’m ever so grateful

Fascinated by this moment in typography: the revolution of 1958 when Cambridge University Society of Arts went from serif to sans, and in a big way. Of all the things I've found while clearing my mum's old house, this is (perhaps weirdly) one of my favourites

I've been hoping to do an event with Alex for a while so very happy to have this opportunity!

I’ll be talking to @alexlarman.bsky.social and @bowiegod.bsky.social about their brilliant Bowie books at this year’s Stratford Literary Festival in October. Come and join us. Tickets on sale from Friday at 9am www.stratfordliteraryfestival.co.uk/events

Ha, pretty sure certain figures within the estate signed this off with a twinkle in their eye

I like to think the ad agency know exactly what they did picking that song. And the Bowie estate? "Sure, you can have this song for THIS much!" Shilling The Rubes.

'I do not feel very confident that I can make anything satisfactory of Middlemarch. I have need to remember that other things which have been accomplished by me, were begun under the same cloud.' George Eliot, 1869

Obviously the conversations around Bowie were astonishing - McCaslin was to Blackstar what Ronson was to Ziggy - but McCaslin's own work is fantastic too and deserves to be heard far and wide. Great to meet him and get my copy of his latest album signed. And he's v nice!

Most pleased to be appearing at this year's Also Festival! It takes place in July in a lovely corner of Warwickshire, and is packed with fascinating talks and great food and music and whatnot and is, well, Quite a Thing. I'm much happier about all this than the photo suggests

My brother-in-law was a late teenager around this time and remembers thinking that Bowie had gone 'staid'. I'd not heard anyone else say that until reading some of these European reviews. This is such a great series - always grateful for voices that counter received wisdom, official narratives etc

it's wonderful that this very Eno-esque strategy in the studio was used for possibly "Magic Dance" of all things

I spoke to a dozen puppeteers, actors, musicians, and singers for this mini oral history for LABYRINTH’s 40th anniversary. I hope to make this into a whole book at some point! Enjoy.
