Trump keeps lying about how well the economy is doing. Most of last year's job gains have been revised away, but we didn't need a graph to know that. Families feel it every day in paychecks that don't stretch and prices that keep climbing.

When first reported, 2025’s jobs reports added up to 1.2 million new jobs. After revisions, the economy added just 116,000 — 90% less.

Americans are paying more for just about everything. Health care, gas, groceries, housing. And what did Republicans prioritize? Tax cuts for the wealthy. We’re not giving up until health care is affordable and accessible for everyone.

Honored to receive the Virginia Maritime Association’s Port Champion Award. Stronger ports mean good-paying jobs and a stronger Virginia economy. I’m proud to have helped secure investments that keep our maritime industry competitive, alongside our congressional delegation and maritime partners.

The FBI contacted my office earlier today to report that it had intercepted mail containing a suspicious substance addressed to my district office, like others reported around the country.

Congress. Can. Take. Action.  At a recent hearing on securing our elections, I asked whether Congress can ban partisan gerrymandering used to pass racially discriminatory maps. The answer is simple. Yes, we can. We’ll keep fighting to get it done.

$2 million delivered to expand broadband on the Virginia Peninsula. Reliable internet helps local businesses compete and grow, students do their schoolwork, and families stay connected.

This funding will strengthen the fiber network connecting Newport News and Hampton to the rest of the region, so more homes and businesses get service they can count on. That's an investment in the people and businesses here today, and in our future.

This raid follows a disturbing pattern of abusing the criminal justice system to seek retribution against political opponents. President Trump has repeatedly targeted Congresswoman Ilhan Omar with inflammatory rhetoric that has contributed to threats of violence against her.

More than 500 young people mentored, 300 scholarships awarded, and 100 college graduates. That’s the record of 100 Black Men of the Virginia Peninsula. Glad to join them for breakfast in Newport News and celebrate the work they’re doing to open doors for young people across our community.

This bill will expand training and career opportunities to address the direct care worker shortage. Every American deserves to live with dignity. That means investing in the workers who make it possible.

Had a great time at Party in the Park with Sheriff Chadwick and neighbors from across the community. The Chesapeake Sheriff's Hope Foundation lifts up the people who need it most, and I'm proud to stand with them and support the important work they do.

Since Trump returned to office, Black unemployment has risen nearly a full percentage point. This Administration’s choices are having real world consequences on families’ ability to make ends meet and workers’ ability to receive equal pay for equal work.

Last night, I joined AFL-CIO President @LizShuler to honor the late, great Bill Spriggs Bill championed working people and economic justice. His legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of those of us who had the opportunity to learn from and work with him over the years

$500 right before the election won't help the 15 million people losing their insurance because of Medicaid cuts and expiring tax credits. And it won't come close to offsetting higher gas and other prices caused by an unnecessary war and chaotic tariffs.

In today's cost-of-living crisis, unions are more critical than ever to help workers earn higher pay and secure better benefits. Last week, AFSCME President Patrick Moran and I met to discuss how Congress can empower unions so that workers can have a voice on the job.

But Trump’s policies are making college harder to afford. I’ve introduced legislation to double Pell Grants and to lower borrowing costs, so all students can have the opportunity to attend college, not just the privileged few.

I strongly support Ukraine and efforts to hold Vladimir Putin accountable for his brutal war. But I cannot support legislation that uses support for Ukraine as leverage to give Donald Trump even more authority to impose his reckless tariffs and trade wars that raise prices on American families.

The Trump administration is waging war on public education. Not on our watch. Today, I stood with AFGE, AFT, and NEA and the educators, staff, and students they serve. We are fighting to ensure every student can access a quality public education.

I joined Norfolk International Airport’s tribute to those we lost 25 years ago on September 11, 2001, and to the police officers, firefighters and other first responders who answered the call to serve at the World Trade Center and Pentagon in the aftermath of the attacks. We will never forget.

Secretary Bunch dedicated his career to ensuring the Smithsonian tells the full story of our nation. His leadership as the founding director of the National Museum of African American History & Culture ensured that the African American experience is recognized as an essential part of America’s story

Lonnie Bunch will step down from his position as head of the Smithsonian Institution by the end of the year, he announced

His retirement comes as President Trump continues his efforts to whitewash history and pressure the Smithsonian to conform to his preferred version of the past. We cannot learn from our history by pretending the most painful chapters never happened.

Trump’s proposed IRS rule is the latest attack on diversity, threatening the tax-exempt status of private colleges over race-conscious programs beyond what was already outlawed by SCOTUS. Colleges have a responsibility to foster environments where we can all thrive.

Great day in Chesapeake at the ribbon-cutting for the VA’s Western Branch Outpatient Clinic. This facility will help ensure veterans across Hampton Roads continue to receive the high-quality care they have earned.
