Hej everyone 🐰 I'm Blanche, a french Systems Engineer I worked on Syberia - The World Before and Amerzone - The Explorer's Legacy I love porting programs to different platforms I'll be posting about what I learned and would love to discuss about architecture and low-level #gamedev

Let's go! The demo for MyDear.exe, our little interactive love letter is now available on Steam! If you like love stories and old computer give it a try and don't hesitate to write a review! store.steampowered.com/app/4255640/... #gamedev #indiegame #cosygame #godot www.youtube.com/watch?v=xOBz...

heads up!! I've just released my new game called Realms! realms.louve.systems It's a strategy game you can play with your friends straight in your browser. Easy to pick up but with deep positional gameplay - give it a go! ♥ I will post some more about it in the upcoming days #gamedev

Collectif Mauvaises Herbes@collectifmh.bsky.social

Hej everyone, Addon's finished, I had a lot of fun 🥳 Every time it's a wonderful opportunity to meet friends once again and this year it was also filled with new heads 🤍 I discussed with many interesting people, about a wide variety of topics. 🧵1 #gamedev

What can you do to avoid being hit by the same thing? If you're a woman, don't If you're old, don't either If ancestors of your family had this, change family Otherwise stay physically active, eat well, and hope it won't ever be your case 🧵9/9

The french health insurance says it can be caused by many factors including heredity, oestrogens, age, being overweight, a sedentary lifestyle, ... Women in my family tree had this problem and it appeared for me since I started HRT going for an estradiol-only strategy implying medium-high dosage 🧵5

So it's kind of logical that I get this problem at some point but it had to happen in order for me to find out that it existed 🙁 Regarding my current situation since my time at the ER: I'm waiting for a surgery to remove the gallbladder completely. 🧵6

Going to my doctor's cabinet & to the closest ER I learnt that it was a failure of my gallbladder which ejected a gallstone which got stuck before reaching intestines. My eyes started to turn yellow a little and blood samples drawn showed that bile in the gallbladder started to poison my body 🧵3

Luckily the crisis started to rescind on 3rd night and my gallbladder didn't get infected This is called a hepatic colic, the gallstone being ejected. A gallstone stuck before reaching intestine is an acute cholecystitis, it can be really dangerous if not handled immediately due to infection risk 🧵4

3 weeks ago I went through 3 days of extreme pains in the abdomen, starting front on the right side and circling back behind between the shoulder blades. This was so intense that at the beginning I could barely breath and went 2 nights with close to no sleep and I couldn't eat anything either 🧵2

1st medical intervention last Monday to remove the gallstone stuck outside failed so that's still a problem & I can't eat things that contains more than 1% of lipids in order to not wake up the gallbladder No lipids is a big challenge because they are in almost 90% of what we find in supermarket 🧵7

A game that promises fun evenings between friends, I'm eager to spend some time playing it 😁

I learned a LOT in 1 week, I'll repost at the end sources of learning that were helpful I rammed head 1st w/ learning what's data alignment from code to hardware & I finally found some answers on whyyyy seemingly arbitrary values are used to indicate alignment in CPU guides of Intel, AMD and ARM 🧵3

Sadly Linux kernel's version of POSIX mmap doesn't separate page reservation from committing. This optimisation cannot be done w/o getting in very specific territory which completely kills portability across distros I went for a linked list to allow growth if needed w/ big memory chunks on Linux 🧵2

I've been playing the Why game for the past 2 days: Why gingerBill in his article on arena allocator defines the default alignment for his basic push function to 128 bits? So I learned a lot about CPU caches and memory access at the hardware level but still didn't find why 🧵1 #gamedev #programming

So WHY? This is driving me crazy, I want to understand completely why you'd want to align your push inside an arena on a 128 bits boundary by default. Writing something a certain way just because someone else did it isn't something I'll ever be okay with, I need to understand 🧵5

And I'm wondering if maybe it could be correlated to the SIMD registers being 128 bits wide for some but I don't know many things on them beside the fact that they exist and that SIMD languages are specific to each CPUs 🧵4

Unaligned memory access is far slower than aligned on natural boundaries of a type, ok It's why most compilers pad fields of a struct to fall on those boundaries, ok This isn't related to memory blocks sent through cache lines given their size on modern PC (64 bytes) being far more wider, ok 🧵2

I need to study more cache alignement, I don't understand why gingerBill defines a 128 bits alignement by default in his example of aligned push. Maybe it doesn't make a lot of sense to push only 64 bits 🧵2/2
