Mostly 3D printed and laser cut Eurorack enclosures, but also some modules.

First prototype fully assembled and working! New PCB revision is almost done but this version is fully functional (just with some workarounds) for my band-mate and a few other folks to test. I found a potential partner for making printed and cut enclosures too! #RetrogradeOrbit #Delay #Pedal

Retrograde Orbit testing has been a glorious success I would say! A few issues which will require another prototype PCB but generally it's kicking ass! Here's a peek at the next prototype PCB. #RetrogradeOrbit #Delay #Pedal #Guitar #Lofi #WaveBoy

(Dynamic volume warning) Behold! Retrograde Orbit! I need to make some tweaks to the firmware from the WaveBoy version and will deffo need a PCB revision for a few oopsies, but it's working pretty awesome for a first prototype! #RetrogradeOrbit #WaveBoy #Delay #Pedal

Not my cleanest prototype but here's the bottom half of Retrograde Orbit's PCB minus the jacks (and C8). I'll do initial power testing soon. I still need to start work on the pedal-specific firmware, but things are coming along well enough! #WaveBoy #RetrogradeOrbit #Pedal #PCB #Prototype

Running a bit behind on 0.71. It's coming! I was fighting a small bomb going off in my mouth this week which ended up in a root canal which wiped me out for most of this week. It's not too far off though! #WaveBoy #Firmware #Soon

Looking already at WaveBoy firmware 0.72. This will have the Retrograde Orbit fix though I want to also reintroduce starting up in the last module that was being used. This was removed for stability for refactoring but I'd like to bring it back.

Well my band-mate found a bug in 0.71 :P Or more specifically helped me arrive at a proper fix. Clipping the input for Retrograde Orbit results in ugly noise at high feedback. This was a hard spot overflow bug in the mixing. Fixed but not in time for 0.71 obviously.

Workaround for now is as it has been - simply don't clip the CV input. But the fix now allows for driving the input harder (into clipping if you want) while also letting you feedback into soup, which is pretty awesome and fun!

MixTape in potato phone picture form. The final version is likely not going to have a green front panel or grey knobs. I haven't decided on the colors yet though. I'm quite excited for our first analog module and am very glad I was able to jam this into 4HP! #MixTape #TapeEcho #Eurorack

It works! Some tweaks I think I'll want to make but the basic design seems to be working as expected, w00t! Only real bug for the prototype is that the dry/wet is backwards. #MixTape #Eurorack

I did some surgery on it this morning, changing the feedback from 3x to 1x (unity). Hindsight, 3x was insane (why did I do that? :P). 1x is much better and now I'm able to get some lovely delay even off my quirky Marantz PMD221! Bias bleed isn't solved, but it is tamed. #MixTape #Eurorack #TapeEcho

Update on the next WaveBoy Firmware release, I'm changing how the Sampler patches work. This should make building patches much easier but replaces the existing method and I decided not to worry about a migration path directly in the firmware, but... #WaveBoy #Sampler

...would be happy to help folks convert their patchsets for anyone that is rolling their own sample packs for the WaveBoy. It's a tedious process right now which is why I don't think many folks are making Sampler patches (apart from me).

Playing around with a Video 8 camcorder. Mostly for seeing if this might be what we wanna do for the band's socials. But since I'm using a WB here, I thought I'd share. Video 8 onto tape, then played back on my Sony PWM CRT and re-recorded on my phone. #Video8 #Scanlines #WaveBoy #AnalogVideo

In addition to planned features for 0.71 of the #WaveBoy firmware, a couple bugs have been found with Retrograde Orbit (the delay mode), and the LFO which I'm working to sort out.

Been pretty productive with the upcoming projects, but with all that stuff ordered, now it's back to working on 0.71 firmware for WaveBoy! Wanting to finish up the JSON file format conversions.

Project 3 of 3: Presenting Retrograde Orbit - the WaveBoy-based guitar delay pedal (well the PCB at least). Huge thanks to my bandmate John for coming up with the name. It's a play on words as it uses a ring buffer (orbit) and a variable clocked DAC the WaveBoy uses (retro). #GuitarPedal #Delay

Project 2 of 3. Mockup of the front panel for the Colour carrier. I'm debating whether or not I should order a front panel at the same time since I'm not quite certain about the PCB alignment to the panel yet. A little BOM work and then this one will be off to the fab! #DIYRE #Colour #Modular

Rare case where I call something by what it is? MixTape. PCB is routed, BOM done, and now the front panel is done. I even made a silly tape logo! I'll be putting in all the parts and PCB orders today for the prototypes. Wish me luck! That's 1/3 projects down! #TapeEcho #Eurorack #MixTape #Modular

I have quite a list for our next Eurorack module/thing: 1. Guitar delay pedal / Eurorack module (WB delay mode) 2. Eurorack Tape Echo Interface 3. DIYRE Colour carrier 4. WaveBoy Advanced / Micro At present, working on #1 as I got a lot of feedback at CGF about a delay pedal.

And finally, here's my 4HP sized tape echo interface module. I had to go SMD to fit it all in. It needs a cool name (and of note the delay pedal and WaveBoy delay mode now DO have a name while I'll announce soon). 3 designs in a few weeks, not bad! #Eurorack #TapeEcho #4HP #Modular

0.70 in action. Showing off the new Jenny mode with Internal Slew into the other WB running the realtime delay. Yummy! #WaveBoy #Slew #PWM #Folding #Modular #Chiptune #Eurorack

There's more I wanna do, but I there's enough changes for firmware 0.70 that I'mna pause, check on bugfixes and things, and get ready for release! Jenny, Slew, bugfixes, audio improvements, performance improvements, tuning improvements, bugfixes are all in there. It's a lot! #WaveBoy #Eurorack

Enjoying the fruits of my labor! Left WB is on the new firmware and I wanted to retest the Delay. Right is on the old firmware yet so I'm not showing off the new mode or slew yet (slew is from my Befaco Slew). Happy with all the work I've been doing so far! It's been A LOT. #WaveBoy #Eurorack

Internally, it's still firmware 0.67 but I will likely bump it to at least 0.70 given how many changes I've made. I'm so excited for folks to try it out! Having to re-calibrate is a speed bump but I think is worth it. Jenny (the new pure waveforms/PWM/folder mode) is so cool!

The next WaveBoy firmware is going to be a treat! Tons of backend improvements I should have done a long time ago but also performance improvements, new modes. The one big downside is, yet again, this might change tunings. But I've made that process even better than before. #WaveBoy #Eurorack

Too many features to list but to hit on the tuning thing - the ADC configuration has been improved but this required re-arranging things but also results in better calibration and performance. Since I had to break stuff anyway, I also completely redid file handling which is way more useful.

Fancier photo of the case I shared that we'll be using in the band. Skiffy 42 with neon green acrylic and sparkly purple 3D printed plastics. #Eurorack #Donatello #Skiffy42

Tim's Chipsurf Live Eurorack build! Using 2 of his own WaveBoy's, Univer Iter MIDI-CV, 2HP LFO, Befaco Slew, Veils VCA, and Doepfer Wasp filter in a neon green acrylic case with purple 3D printed plastics. We're calling it the Donatello. #WaveBoy #Chipsurf #Chiptune #Eurorack

Another 0.67 update! A new generated classic waveform mode is now available (currently called Jenny). Working on slew as well. And there have been lots of performance improvements everywhere. It's shaping up to be really good hopefully! #WaveBoy

Planning out a 42HP case if we decide to add WaveBoys into our live set. WB can do slew, LFO but since I haven't made a "WB Advance" yet, I can only modulate 1 thing via CV and being able to control those from my keyboard is important. 2nd WB is for the bassbomb because of course. - Tim #WaveBoy

Working on WaveBoy firmware again - finally! Looking to add a slew option, making the CV/steps bipolar (in a way that is friendly to 0-5V CV and full range CV), among other things. This will be 0.67 since I think it makes sense to have these before 1.0. #WaveBoy #Chiptune #Eurorack #Modular

The bipolar thing is both simple and elegant and something I've been fighting since I got CV/frame automation working. The basic fix is just treating the input as an absolute value. So a bipolar LFO can go through the frames in either direction (just twice as fast).
