besties

waking up just now to hear that our partner for pages.gay’s hosting is having to do unscheduled maintenance, the service will be back as soon as possible, we’re so sorry for the inconvenience! * Hazel (@h)

We're now explicitly banning projects developed using AI tools from :gitgay: git.gay following Codeberg and sourcehut having done the same, thanks for your patience on this matter, we've been meaning to get to this for a little while now * Hazel (@h)

@besties hopefully for nearly everyone this will be a Convenience rather than an Inconvenience because service will be more reliable, but we’ll see

git.gay is now using go-away as it has become impractical to run the service without it or something similar. we held out for as long as we could Let me know if there’s any issues, i will do my best to resolve any when i have time! i have been very busy lately and constantly dealing with […]

https://git.gay/donate has been updated with more info

the instability on pages.gay lately has been due to a DDOS. we’re getting DDOSes now, we’ve made it! lmao (and dont worry about us, our ISP is being really cool about it 👍)

To celebrate pride month, we’re changing git.gay’s logo ❤️ Happy pride!

as with most of our other unexpected downtime, this was caused by a wave of spam requests. we’ve held off on implementing any PoW systems, since we feel they’re a bad user experience and since we don’t like them conceptually (it is trivial to bypass, the whole thing is so silly…) but it gets to […]

git.gay is down at the moment, we're working on bringing it back up.

fwiw btw, all @besties expenses have been moved to different accounts so my own financial worries don’t cause the org any issues. when i’m complaining about money problems don’t worry about besties’s services git.gay and pages.gay being hit by it. besties still Could use more donations, but it […]

Our hosting provider had maintenance that we were told would only cause a bit of extra latency but instead caused downtime for some hours, we’re sorry for the inconvenience.

We hope everyone had a good TDoV! 🏳️‍⚧️ On a separate note, git.gay is lesbian now

An email was sent out to those who received the spam. We apologize once again for this.

RE: https://social.besties.house/@besties/116083300649904149 i was asking friends if they'd help me with moderating a few months ago, umm anyone up for that now? lol

the spam wave is being monitored

if you have any spare money this holiday season we’d really appreciate if you’d help support what we’re doing @besties running git.gay and pages.gay! one of our members got into an accident yesterday so our ability to cover remaining expenses out of pocket might not be so strong this coming […]

hi, so so sorry for git.gay and everything being down!!!!!! am actively working on it, gonna need to upgrade stuff which is frustrating

our old servers have maintenance scheduled shortly - this impacts only the pages.gay service sorry for no prior notice </3 was messaged hours ago but didnt realise </3

git.gay is moved, some other things too. i’ll work more on migrating things later but its already 4am so i’ll take a break for tonight lol. let me know if things arent working as well as they should — i haven’t moved my matrix or xmpp over yet so signal (@hazy.01) or discord (@hazycora) is […]

update on our servers since ive received a few dms asking about it: I’ll give an update when theres an update, i dont want to announce some exciting news just for it to fall through again. youll know its finally getting fixed the moment I do. Last i heard was on Friday- “it’s nearly ready […]

[in case people don’t see the edit to the post] our hosting provider had to reschedule maintenance. tomorrow, wednesday the 12th, is the current date. there’s a banner on git.gay reflecting this now. apologies for the inconvenience :( https://social.besties.house/@h/114129636267652439

besties services (git.gay, pages.gay, etc) will be effected by maintenance from the server host currently planned for tuesday the 11th, and may take some hours. i’ll provide more info when i have it

if you didn't see, forgejo's had a security update. git.gay's down as it's updating right now, sorry for the downtime it's taking a bit longer than normal

I’m sorry to anyone whos had issues with pages.gay just randomly erroring on user pages. The service kept having issues requesting repositories from git.gay due the network provided by our hosting being broken, and it would just fail sometimes doing that and end up showing visitors a misleading […]

git.gay has over a thousand registered users now!! :ablobcatrave:

supporting the goats @besties on liberapay

downtime caused by ISP. so sorry. i wish we could afford to have redundant servers for this but we cant

IPv6 temporarily disabled due to ISP problems. Will be back as soon as possible :)

:gitgay: git.gay is nearing _one thousand users_! We’ll also have ran the platform for 3 years on January 8th 🎉

new post plugging the donation links cause the old ones were specific to @h and they no longer have to be :)

Besties is a developer collective providing open source apps and services, free of charge, including git.gay and pages.gay. These services aren’t free to host, and maintaining them takes work. If you’d like to help support these projects, and everything else we do, you can make a donation on […]
