OMG, it's double heart-break. My heart goes out to her.

I miss the old Point-Counterpoint at the end of 60 Minutes... That "commentary" at the end of tonight's show seemed to normalize the President's recent actions toward Ukraine. I guess I miss the old 60 Minutes.

On top higher Part B payments, It is looking more and more like a Hobson’s choice: - cheaper MA plans that will cost you when it comes to restricted provider and benefit access vs - sky-high supplemental plan premiums for the privilege of seeing the doctors you want and need.

Few details about ACA plan member cancellations and even fewer on reinstatements, it appears.

At the #STATSummit, Science editor-in-chief Holden Thorpe warns that if the U.S. doesn’t do basic research, it will be done elsewhere. The proof is in the submissions and publications at the Science journals:

Boomer retirees get bigger checks, while those still working will pay more in Soc Sec tax — a big example of the generational inequality that’s resulting from inflation right now.

This👇 is such a good example of how on top of her game Helen was. While she was keeping us all updated on Ebola, MERS, flu, and so many of all the other infectious diseases out there, she immediately grasped the gravity of the first warning sign of what we now remember as SARS-CoV-2 / COVID-19.

This is the worst news I have heard in a very long time - what a tragic loss. @helenbranswell.bsky.social was, unquestionably, _the_ best in the field and just a wonderful person. Condolences to her family and colleagues - she'll be sorely missed. www.statnews.com/2026/10/13/h...

President Trump floated the idea of renaming more bodies of water, following his efforts to change the names of the Gulf of Mexico and Lake Ontario. “Before I get out, I think we should have an ocean,” Trump said at a rally. “And we need a great river.” https://wapo.st/47T8cKF

Because when you’re in your 20s, you think “Yeah, high leverage played a role in the crashes of 1929, 1987, the collapse of LTCM in 1998, and more recently in 2008 — NBD. This time it’s different.”

It’s like these AI agents are drunken frat boys… How long before Claude, Chat and Grok go full-on Hal 9000 and refuse to stop hacking and doing their own thing in their AI Animal House?

I subsequently realized that she probably had a travel nurse who didn’t understand the system. While I’m not sure it changed much I felt like it needed to be on the record. I kept thinking about others being done harm because they didn’t know how to advocate the way I could.

More than half of Marketplace enrollees (55%) live in Republican districts. The highest shares of state enrollment are in Florida (16%), Georgia (11%), Texas (10%), and Utah (10%) — states that were all won by President Trump in 2024. Get more data here: https://on.kff.org/4jcR7m8

President Trump says $2K Trump accounts will make kids “very rich” by the time they are 18. Even with compounding, that sum would in a good market grow to just over $11K, which might cover a year of trade school, depending on inflation. If used for school or buying a home they would avoid tax.

Today is a great day to buy at-home Covid/Flu tests, they’re discounted during the Amazon Prime sale!

Dr. Vin Gupta@vinguptamd.bsky.social

Get your flu shot now. Don’t wait until flu season is in full swing. And as we discussed this morning, know your options. Also, consider keeping a few at-home COVID/flu combination tests on hand. Many are available online for under $10 and may be HSA/FSA eligible.

Just curious… does anybody know how to harness AI to find data brokers who give out your number for annoying campaign text messages and have a bot text them non-stop?

About the WSJ's "new sexy"... looking beyond the clothes it seems the fashion world has gone all-in on the mean girlfriend look. It's not that women need to be smiling, but why do fashion folks think emaciated, hangry, and looking depressed is a good look?

Does that count as deflation, since it’s only 10% of the original offer to voters?
