Naive heuristic : avoiding gadgets or services (free or not) that increase inequality by design, through technology or business model or both, would be a good starting point.

Got a cool XR demo or prototype to showcase to friends & colleagues remotely? Join a (self-hosted) Jitsi Meet session then share your Frame camera. It won't be your face or your desktop but rather your point of view ... letting you showcase live, from the browser, with 0 installation!

Funny Frame trick, the IR passthrough let's you see inside the controller, on the left the controller turned off, seeing through its shell, on the right the controller turn on, UI overlaying on top of it, hiding its electronics.

Current software development discussions : (plus typically it could be replaced by a (paid) API call or service or rely on an existing open source library 🤷‍♂️)

Social media aren't just about sharing cute cat pictures, it's about power, actual political power.

Casting XR PoV straight from Frame to a huge display thanks to an Android videoprojector running SteamLink.

Sharing a VR or AR experience is so tricky so having a live perspective helps a ton.

Frame and Quest seeing each other thanks to #WebXR (specifically Networked AFrame) to explore cross-platform collaboration in XR.

A friend yesterday argued my constraints on AI usage were too harsh harsher than say for clothing or food. Initially I agreed without a proper reason, in retrospect the reason is the concentration of power that is radically different. Power asymmetry must follow my heuristic bsky.app/profile/bene...

Showing the inside of the VR World to the outside, Steam Frame streaming to Steam link on mobile.

The difference between a high tech gadget vs a real computer (even if it straps to your face) : my 1To Frame has now 512Go more of storage... and it took a whole 1min or less, no formatting, just straight up push inside and use.

To be clear inequality is not a natural phenomenon. There is people who are precisely putting all their energy, and actual resources, in insuring they and their friends are the ones owning resources, singularity or not. It does not just happens, it's a constant systemic struggle. It's politics.

One thing I didn't consider wrt singularity is that it's almost certain that a real singularity wouldn't be evenly distributed across culture, society, economics, etc; you'd see variations across it, like quantum flux during inflation, and the parts will recede from one another at very high speed

@cnrs-insmi.bsky.social bjr, suite a bsky.app/profile/cnrs... avez-vous une recommendation de livre interactif ou meme jeu sur les fractales pour les jeunes enfants, ~7ans svp ?

IMHO the choice isn't that obvious anymore, not so much because of marginally better hardware specs but mostly because of an open ecosystem leveraging interoperability, namely you use YOUR tools the way YOU want.

To clarify the versus is provocative, one does NOT have to chose either or, rather use the right setup in the right context, and again make them interoperate so that the transition is seamless.

This point about the intrinsic limits of hill-climbing is really important. Read full context in this blogpost: irisvanrooijcogsci.com/2026/09/12/c...

In other words, any intractable problem that allows for local hill climbing cannot be globally well approximated. Well, isn't that the *opposite* of what many people think and claim 🙃

AR in WebXR on the Frame, and hand tracking thanks to controllers (no CV) thanks to the Chromium Canary build.

WebXR on the Steam Frame. The trick was using steamos-add-to-steam Wolvic-steam-arm64-gecko-generic-debug.apk then let Lepton do the rest 👌 🐧

KDE Connect on the Steam Frame, integrating with my other Linux devices, controlling my desktop pointer with a 6DoF controller 👌 and getting notification that I've been tinkering enough and it's time to recharge batteries 😅

More integrations with open source tools I already rely on, here Firefox with my tabs, passwords, etc thanks to Mozilla Profile

Finally got time to tinker with the Steam Frame, here testing frametop "Multi-screen KDE Plasma desktop and universal 3D mouse for the Valve Steam Frame (SteamVR)"

Damn, so there is in fact on-going work for WebXR support on the Valve Frame github.com/utzcoz/chrom... with some support from Valve (which makes the device) and some verification from Google (which makes Chrome the browser). Very exciting, can't wait to give it a go.🚀 🐧 🕶️

You know it's going to be mind bending when you have to use a virtual camera overlay to explain a perspective shift.😅

Difficulty scaling examples : - number modifier, e.g. 3j instead of jjj - hide mapping, show mapping line by line with each failed attempt

Wireless scrcpy : Android-to-VMed Linux-to-Android it still works on Pixel with GrapheneOS to Quest 3

Neat, I can also pull and push files on my XR headset hollywood:/storage/self/primary/Documents $ cat cacert.cer.fake datafaked hollywood:/storage/self/primary/Documents $ all via the Web (well... on that 1 browser supporting WebUSB at least)

... using a massive amount of resources (GPUs, RAM, themselves consuming a lot of energy, establishing data centers in water poor areas, using gas turbine to temporary power them) and horrendous work condition (for supervising learning, curating datasets, etc) ...

Love Scratch (or ScratchJr or OctoStudio) but feel somehow limited by the existing blocks? Check out Snap snap.berkeley.edu thanks to which, with its custom block and JavaScript extension support, I was able to communicate to VR content and play with a GamePad in minutes!😍
