Great to see the alum play for Boeheim's Army and an @newhousesu.bsky.social alum on the call @jakemarsh.bsky.social . Going to the game here Thursday to see them win again. Go 🍊

Join me in participating in a breast cancer genetics study that needs to reach 50K by December. --> need 32,000 more women to help find variants. It took me 5 minutes -- a salvia kit with mail-back packaging. Join here: join.rugcc.org/r?T1.zgfk6m

Each day I look for a story of hope. Here's mine for today-- a man who worked his whole lifetime to honor and memorialize 12 people from another country--a country who nearly destroyed his world when he was only 8 years old. May he rest in peace. theworld.org/segments/202...

Here's the full story about the attempted search of the reporter's phone, computer, etc. www.washingtonpost.com/national-sec...

Federal Magistrate William Porter didn't have #Com505 @newhousesu.bsky.social so he didn't know about the Privacy Protection Act that protects journalists from searches (with a few exceptions). But he DID make a good decision that he--not the gov't--will review reporter Hannah Natanson's phone.

A powerful example of why we need the media. The state said a woman's story of rape in prison wasn't true as no employee with that name worked there. @nysfocus.bsky.social found out otherwise. nysfocus.com/2026/02/20/a...

Anyone else having trouble getting wifi in the Dome?

I honor the three journalists who were killed in Gaza on Wednesday. All deaths are sad but this tugged at my heart: One had just been married. How important these journalists were as so few can get into Gaza. www.washingtonpost.com/world/2026/0...

Concerned about the unprecedented search of @washingtonpost.com reporter's hom. Not aware? Please read this: www.rcfp.org/fbi-raid-was... Journalists fought for years for protections finally granted by Biden but revoked by Trump. Journalists must protect sources to inform citizens about gov't.

ACC Network hires great pxp broadcasters. @NewhouseSU alum Jay Altar just did the SU-Ga.Tech game and then tosses to SU alum Anish Shroff calling NC State-Boston College Game. #OrangeProud

Your last chance to see my friend and colleague Dave Chanatry host #IvoryTower on WCNY.bsky.social . Tune in tonight at 8, Saturday at 5:30 or you can watch him for years back on WCNY.org!

Thanks producers and staff, John Dickerson and Maurice DuBois for @cbseveningnews.bsky.social . I will miss this show for its short tease open, its strong reporting, the weather, the cogently-written short Roundup and the final longform story.

I know people are upset with the media. But just one positive example of the difference journalists can make: @nysfocus.bksy.social exposed that NY never implemented a law to reimburse kidney donors. The Health Department @nydoh.bluesky.social just did, 3 years later.

I hosted an interesting #IvoryTower on @wcny.bsky.social today. But you want to watch the Dodgers and Blue Jays tonight? Or maybe @syracusefootball.bsky.social? I won't be upset. You can watch our show on @wcny.bsky.social after 8:30 on wcny.org or catch it on TV Saturday at 5:30 p.m.

I mourn: Israel’s killing of 31 Yemeni journalists marks deadliest global attack in 16 years cpj.org?p=522184

Good example of a public affairs story with detailed reporting, good interviewing and strong writing. Very powerful. Emotional. By @PostStandard reporters @meisenstadtsyr and @mbreidenbach about the #immigration raid on a local factory. www.syracuse.com/news/2025/09...

Important to know history. This article is from military historian and my colleague @WCNYPBS #IvoryTower, @tyseidule.bsky.social. It's about the $10 million restoration of a Confederate monument to Arlington Cemetery. thehill.com/opinion/civi...

@amazonhelp #KindleDigitalPublishing. Is your verify process working? We made 8 attempts: 3 computers, 2 mobile phones, 2 browsers, clear photos. We're stuck. Can we talk to a human?

Many viewers say they like the As and Fs segment of #IvoryTower @WCNYPBS best. Well, now you can see just those segments. Check them out here: www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...

Our church is looking for a music director -- who can lead both choral and contemporary music. Pass this on to anyone you know who would love to shape University United Methodist Church, Syracuse, NY's dynamic music ministry , files.constantcontact.com/92d31e57801/...

@NewhouseBDJ alum @JasonBenetti shines in this @Freep article about the broadcast team for the #DetroitTigers. Well worth a read. www.freep.com/story/sports... @waersports @NewhouseSports

Say their names: Anas al-Sahrif, Mohammed Qureiqa, Ibrahim Thaher, Mohammed Noufal and Moamen Aliwa. #aljazeerajournalists killed in # Gaza. I am very sad, yet thankful for their commitment to reporting so that we might know the truth.

Good reporting at #CentralCurrent that changed Syracuse police policy on sharing license plate data. Before the change the local police's database had been searched >4 million times. centralcurrent.org/syracuse-pol...

I bet most of us can use a short history lesson on what July 4 was all about. www.youtube.com/watch?v=gkFx... This from Professor Heather Cox Richardson bsky.app/profile/hcri...

We're celebrating #Juneteenth by having our two @UUMCSyracuse church anti-racism groups over for a potluck tomorrow. And tonight we will watch "North to Freedom" from WSKG-TV, about abolition in NY State. wskg.org/north-to-fre... What are you doing?

People CAN make a difference by speaking out! Most books censored at the Naval Academy library are now back. Plus $70K will get Navy students any book needed for research that isn't available. A nearby small bookstore gets the business. 19thnews.org/2025/05/dei-...

CPJ and global media leaders call for urgent, unrestricted access to Gaza for journalists cpj.org?p=484868

At a time of so much negativity I am working each day to find something positive. I will post some of my finds. Today this @NPR story about volunteering lifted my heart. www.npr.org/2025/05/06/n...

Journalism ethics say reporters/editors and #ivorytower news hosts like me are to be independent but I would be pleased if many people write Congress to continue funding to local radio and TV public media stations. www.washingtonpost.com/style/media/...

Journalism ethics say reporters/editors should stay independent, and yes, I host a public affairs show @WCNYPBS, but I hope manypeople write Congress to keep funding for news, arts, culture on local public radio and TV stations. www.washingtonpost.com/style/media/...

The creativity of reporters often amazes me. Check out this great investigative story from @washingtonpost.com www.washingtonpost.com/climate-envi...

Let’s remember that journalists have ethics and that’s why editor Jeffrey Goldberg didn’t tell what he knew until later and did not release all the information related to national security. Https://www.spj.org/ethics

For News Directors, EPs and journalism profs: If I was still teaching web writing I'd assign this article on Day 1 about how to write a compelling lead dynamicsofwriting.com and then give students writing drills based on this.

Sending love ❤️ to all #IvoryTower viewers but you won't see us on @wcny.bsky.social tonight. The roads were too dangerous for three of our panelists to get in early Friday morning. This is probably only the 3rd or 4th time in 22 years that we haven't brought you a show. We hope you understand.

NYT is trying to get Vol 2 of Jack Smith's report (MAL/Classified Docs) thru FOIA in this lawsuit. DOJ denied the request on 2/5 & NYT is taking an admin appeal of that decision. If (when) they lose, they will come back to the court to try and get the report. s3.documentcloud.org/documents/25...

Media are missing an important angle to all the budget cuts/holds and USAID funding in limbo --- reaction of the religious community. Most faith's sacred texts speak of doing charitable works for others, without reward yourself. Here is one reaction by United Methodist bishops.
