A very overcast humid morning hard to find the silver studded blues on the East Devon Pebbled Heaths. But I managed to find 3 including this beautiful female on the heather. @bcdevon.bsky.social @savebutterflies.bsky.social

Today we held a field trip to Orley Common, near Newton Abbot, led by Pete from our committee. Lots of common species on the wing including Common Blue, Green-veined white, Small Copper and Painted Ladies. Sadly, no Brown Argus spotted today. #devonbutterflyconservation #devon #savebutterflies

My first @savebutterflies.bsky.social survey last weekend. Pearl bordered fritillaries at small local sites. I was very happy with 32 in 20 minutes with some egg laying going on. It was hard not to get distracted by the painted ladies. @bcdevon.bsky.social

Attached are a few snippets from the 2025 work parties at Lower Hurston, Miltor Mator, Little Breach Reserve and Lydford Reserve. Collectively, these sessions supported habitats for a range of rare butterfly species 🦋 Thankyou to @bcdevon.bsky.social and Peter Beale for their continued guidance!

Delighted to see good numbers of Pearl-bordered Fritillary on Dartmoor yesterday. At least 50 in an hour at Aish Tor. They seemed to like egg-laying in the cut bracken areas which had abundant small violets. They rarely lay on the violet but often nearby, inc Honeysuckle! @bcdevon.bsky.social
