Sony really pulled off the ultimate power move by inventing a new disc format, crushing its competition, and then also abandoning said format and ceasing its production. Truly the champions of scumbag behavior.

This is one of the few, rare times a studio closure has had an emotional impact on me. I grew up playing Bioware. Put more hours than I can remember into Baldur's Gate, NWN, KOTOR, Jade Empire, Dragon Age, Mass Effect...basically shaped my gaming years. I am dead inside. RIP Bioware 💔

Consolidation is killing our industry. The Gamergaters who make money off the rage game will have you think this is a victory. This is purely a loss. A loss of work and art and fun and expression in a space that desperately needs it. Massive fucking bummer.

People will really show you a game with the DLSS5 slop filter enabled and say with a straight face "doesn't this look amazing???"

All due respect to our great blue cities across the nation - all wonderful places to be! - but nowhere is going to deliver on the Day When It Finally Happens like our hatin’ asses in Philadelphia.

It's telling that when given the power to instantly generate anything a player would want in a game the best thing folks have come up with is: slam this game into this game. GenAI does not enable you to be creative.

Jacob Geller is no longer a part of MinnMax. He won't be on content moving forward and we won't be publicly airing this week's episode of The MinnMax Show. We're in shock and deeply hurt. Thank you for your patience during this sensitive time.

Straight up: If you’re using AI to do your thing for you, go do something else. If you’ve disconnected from the act of creation that much it’s time to just find something else to do.

Also make sure you’re *not* buying any digital PlayStation games and *are* buying physical ones - because that matters way more than any social media noise could ever hope to accomplish lol

Does it play?@doesitplay.org

Friendly reminder that we all have to keep voicing our concerns about a digital-only future without ownership and proper customer protection law under EVERY post from PlayStation. Just because they want to play deaf doesn't mean we should go silent. Make a stand now or never!

The worst thing to happen to youtube gaming content is the video essay. Not because well written thought pieces about a specific game or subject are bad. It's more that the people making these videos have nothing to actually say and spend the bulk of the video recapping the game and its release.

Not every video needs to be an hour long, not every subject needs a docuseries. Shorter 5-10 minute videos are a dying art form it seems.

Oh no Harry Osborne and Peter Parker were best friends, how horrible. Magneto and Xavier were also best friends! Logan and Jean were lovers! Mysterio befriended Peter Parker, too! Reed Richards & Victor Von Doom were childhood friends! GASP So we’re T’challa/Kilmonger! How could Insomniac do this?

Did you know that back in 2008 if you 100% completed GTA4 the first week the game was out they would send you a REAL key to the city? You can now sell that on ebay for enough to get a PS5 Pro, GTA6, and this "collectors edition".

IGN@ign.com

GTA 6 fans aren't thrilled about a $400 collector's set that doesn't include the game, and they're even comparing it to previous Rockstar collector's editions. https://bit.ly/4xIzfmC

Watching people bend over backwards to come up with reasons why Control Resonant is also a terrible game that nobody should play is just kinda sad now. It's a speed run for a lot of content creators now to just find something to hate for clicks and its exhausting.

Halo Studios dead. Arkane dead. Ninja Theory dead. Halo is shifting over to Activision for development. Turn 10 and Playground are now one team supporting Forza and Fable. Undead Labs survived and will still be releasing State of Decay 3. The hits just keep on coming. Feel for all impacted.

It's less about feeling bad for the devs and more lamenting that the dominant form of games criticism now is unhinged viral hate-farming that picks a target and tears into it until there's not a drop of flesh left on its bones, when the crime is as benign as 'being a so-so superhero game'.

I've been making jokes about games sucking because the water looks bad for what feels like 20 years. It worries me that some folks saying it now are actually serious about it.

Every 18 months, a game is thrust into the discourse spotlight to be beat on and passed around, mostly by people who haven’t even played it. Very rarely does the game actually deserve it. Often, despite entire studios getting shut down as a result, the game was just fine. It just takes a spark.

Apple should make a feature phone. Not joking, an Apple feature phone with no app store. You get: a decent camera, apple music, apple maps, call and iMessage, that's it. You can pair Airpods to it, it has Carplay but no Siri or voice assist of any kind. 200 bucks. Ship it cowards.

I think it's NOT a coincidence that people's sudden intolerance (in the 2020s) for flawed, complex, or stubborn characters that don't turn around & completely change themselves to resolve a story sprouts up as everyone seems incapable of reviewing a game w/o spending half the time detailing its plot
