Do not underestimate the scale of this climate crisis. We are watching feedback loops accelerate, ice sheet collapse, ocean heat content, methane release, that could lock in irreversible warming. We have all witnessed the data, and it is not slowing down.

The government isn't even trying to advance renewables. Disgraceful. #canpoli @mark-carney.bsky.social @markgerretsen.bsky.social #NoPipelinesOnaBurningPlanet

This week @mark-carney.bsky.social will host over 250 big investors at his Canada Investment Summit. The prospectus (66 pages, 167 projects) is being pitched to global capital this week as showcasing Canada's "clean energy advantage." Counting every project by sector the numbers don’t add up!!

I got a little carried away, so we will be enjoying Ginger Peach Iced Tea, a variation on the Cool as a Cucumber Salad and corn on the cob with the Fried Butter Beans and Collard Greens. And wrapping up with this sweet potato pecan pie!

I wrote this quickly at a bus stop and didn't realize it would go viral, or else I would have worded it better. But the point is that the media is too credulous about AI killing everyone in 10 years (how?) when climate change is killing people now and will only get worse (we know exactly how).

I resigned from ExxonMobil today. I spent the last three years doing fossil fuel extraction research at both BP and ExxonMobil. Neither company is acting responsibly. They are racing to maximize extraction while the window to act closes, and gambling with our lives. More below.

"These really contentious plans will give free rein to large polluters, put nature and species at risk, limit public participation and keep Canadians in the dark about the impacts to their health and safety. It's a huge abdication of responsibility from the feds."

Ruby Bridges was 6-years-old when she stepped into the history books. Bravely accompanied by her mother, she was the first Black child to desegregate an all-white school in the South. It was not long ago… Today is her birthday. She is still with us. She is 72. Happy birthday, Ruby Bridges 💜

"If the world, however, dramatically reduces greenhouse gases and achieves net-zero around 2075, Canada's climate is projected to stabilize and average warming would increase by 3.5 C." Why are we still wandering lackadaisically toward a fifty year threshold -- and now aiming for 3.5?!?!?! 🤬

Gaining a majority in mid-2026, the Carney government was free to pursue economic growth to achieve greater independence from US-Canada ties. Yet this single-minded agenda misses much of what Canadians expect and need from their federal government.

Academic freedom is aligned with freedom to read. Public libraries defend the inclusion of books with diverse perspectives - and those some find offensive - in their collections, along with your right to read them. Both encourage critical thinking. Both are essential to a healthy democracy.

It's not 'defending' anyone to have a coherent understanding of academic freedom. A lot of peoples' conception of academic freedom is that it doesn't apply if you decide the person's a horrible human being. Which is just another way of saying you don't believe in academic freedom.

"What exactly do you expect Carney to do / not do?" A thread of 50 specific items (with links, and not in any particular order), a large fraction of which are in line with warning signs we pointed out early on and were told to be quiet, wait and see, or trust his 4D chess acumen. 1/??
