Today, I finished Zero Company. Really cool game from start to finish. I want to call it great, but I think the studio that made it running on fumes clearly creeps into the game. It's a very ambitious, unpolished, and imperfect "almost great" game. I simultaneously loved it and had issues with it.

I love this from Star Wars Zero Company. Each time I come back to the game, my character is slacking lol yeah babe, sleep hard

Characters and stories are good. It tries to do a "star wars turn-based strategy mass-effect", and it mostly succeeds. There are also quite cool connections to the parallel Star Wars story, and a few times it managed to surprise me with the use of the events of the movies.

On the story side I think it could be stronger, and could have done more with the character missions and 3rd person sections. Here's one of the parts where it feels like the studio couldn't meet the scope they aimed for. Same with a lot of very repetitive transitions and missing cutscenes.

I finished the last combat with the Jedi pulling the boss into the line of sight, for my MC to assist with a shot that almost killed her and my BFF just finishing the job with her special ability. I had specifically done the force pull to get the boss in the line of sight of my BFF just in case.

If you look for these kinds of event chains, there are lots of opportunities to pull them of, and it seems very "cinematic". I managed to get the relevant characters do most of the final hits and It was rarely planned.

I think the best thing it has going on is how good the action/strategy feels. It's not particularly difficult (played in max difficulty, but without the single save), at least coming from X-Com 2, but every combo or little clever/serendipitious synergy feels great.

The document has now been withdrawn by arXiv admins.

I don't know what's the right reaction to the fact that, despite the absolutely shameful job of the author, the candidate seems legit. I just ran a quick GP+Transit model out of curiosity and there is indeed a significant a transit-like signal at the reported period #exoplanets #astronomy

interestingggg.... paper on the arXiv tonight of a new planet candidate found with and written up entirely by AI, including the caveat, "The author has not independently checked the analyses and does not have the expertise to verify every technical detail." arxiv.org/abs/2610.28575

It is clear by now that an LLM can guide a non-professional to a discovery and to write a text with the appearance of a paper, or even write it itself. We have 3 in the last couple days. People mention that journals are receiving quite a lot of them. The numbers are probably going to grow much more.

Are we about to get our own "Open AI publishes 89000 new planets from the TESS and Kepler databases, enjoy making sense of the noise" moment?

I would like to see a new feature on arXiv that labels preprints that use AI upfront, since apparently TWO slop papers were successfully uploaded to the preprint server over the last two nights... arxiv.org/abs/2610.26056 🔭🌟🪐

A bit more than one month into my first teaching experience ever. I'm really enjoying it but... my research/admin load has not decrease compared to the time before teaching. In fact it has been particularly high this past months. I'm managing to get everything done, butm y concentration is gone.

On a 5% success chance, it is really at a point in which I don't believe proposal reviews are not effective. Success of failure will be decided by noise. We would be better off cutting those potentially bad, and just randomly assigning the rest.

It's a real tragedy how the youth are embracing fascism and glorifying the darkest episode of Spain's recent history. 20-25 years ago that would have been unthinkable.

Yesterday I watched La Bola Negra. What an epic beautiful fucking banger of a movie. If It was US-made, I'm sure It would be head to head with The Odyssey in the Oscar race. What a beautiful and 100% relevant movie.

It's touching, its really well acted, beautifully shot, it feels massive, and its very very deeply spanish. It talks (i'm stealing a line from the movie) about all the love stories buried under the spanish fields and roads because bigotry got its way too many times.

I remain not a fan of the practices behind LLMs, and skeptical about a lot of their publicity, but it's really undeniable that they can help someone that knows the concepts and is grounded in their questions to push further that what they could otherwise do #exoplanets #astronomy

Coyote vs ACME was delightful. Very funny, relevant, and heartfelt. Wanting to shelve It as a tax write-off was a truly deranged idea. Those WB executives need to be as far away from art as possible.

On a fun note, It made me remember that i had watched another movie about small destructive aliens that escape custody, hijack a spaceship and land on a small community on earth. Both even roll!

In both cases there's even aliens coming to catch the creatures. After watching the movie I read that very early in its conception, Lilo & Stitch was going to happen in Kansas... same as the other movie about furry small rolling chaotic space fugitives

As both an academic and a writer, I am repelled by the "this looks like a long document. Would you like me to summarize it for you?" that seems to appear at the top of every pdf viewer now. NO. The *entire point* of good writing (either books or journal papers) is that every sentence has a purpose.

They'll expect people to do homework to watch a blockbuster (lol), and then they'll have enough exposition for anyone to understand the movie after arriving an hour late

The studio released an official catch-up list ahead of December’s release. We have easy links to watch every one of the movies so you can get up to speed. www.wired.com/story/marvel...

I was told yesterday by a senior scientist in Spain that I was wrong. 2002 was just a small correction in the text. The actual amounts have been frozen since 1998, before the euro was introduced.

A. Suárez Mascareño@asuarezmascareno.com

This is quite low in the rank of issues of science/academia/society nowadays, but is kind of insane that the maximum amount of money to be reinbursed per day during work trips has been frozen since 2002 in Spain. Now, it's mostly impossible to go to a conference without paying from our own pocket.

Manuel Marchena, one of the most famous judges in Spain, has spent his entire career in the Supreme Court receiving "setbacks" from European justice for misrepresenting the laws and violating the rights of many people. There have never been consequences to him.

Can people be *this oblivious* or are they just shitty and don't give a shit? "AI is there to replace only those that earn significantly less than me, so it's fine"

Klaus von Hohenloe@dungeonnewbs.guide

"Oh don't worry, I'm unaffected by the AI we used. It only affected the people I don't give a shit about." Gal, are you sure they didn't replace your performance with a lifeless, flat AI replacement? I'm not sure I could tell the difference...
