surely there are harnesses that work ootb and are made by people without ai psychosis

relatedly, I've needed to set up CI and a binary artifact cache recently for a team (with private code hosted on uni github enterprise without actions), and it's quite the landscape

why am I getting emails about my "ai software factory" man I just wanted good CI

ideally this would run on some cloud service instead of a random pc for reliability, but vps prices are slightly ridiculous and "I just want to spin up a build vm occasionally without bankrupting myself" is a _very_ daunting task

we use nix, which solves setup and task orchestrator, meaning something like jenkins is massive overkill. there's buildbot-nix but it doesn't seem to integrate into random github enterprise instances... ...in the end I had glm write a several hundred line python script to handle everything

the builders, cache, and ci service are running in microvms a desktop pc with credentials handled by agenix and it's super straightforward

most "CI" services/frameworks seem to be handling a variety of - integration with code forges for e.g. merge gates - environment setup - task runner - status reporting

cool feature, and reminder that you can go to `Settings > Profile > QR code or link` in signal to generate a url for people to message you, no germ dm labeller needed

I told mythos about the web PKI system with a hundred root CAs, any of which can sign any domain, and it just pointed and laughed at me and asked when the simulation would end

"stop idolizing corporations" ok but what if the corporation has really good podcasts

bought a 20 year old ibm thinkpad yesterday, kind of shocked by how responsive windows xp is on this thing

I'd be lying if I said most actions were anywhere near as responsive as on my mid-upper tier cpu from 2023 (heavily throttled bc my laptop fan is cooked rn), but it's somewhat embarrassing that _any_ gui actions take more than <instant> in 2026

benchmarking this would be interesting. I have a suspicion it's mostly dbus context switch spam with a little static linking sprinkled on the side

I'd seen videos from "software is in decline" type posts, but it's really incredible seeing word open in <1s

question to younger people in tech: how do you get hired (the initial step, to a hiring manager) these days? my understanding is job applications don’t work. What does?

the term "transparent" when used to describe computer abstractions is very odd given it is often used to describe abstractions (e.g. memory cache levels) that are opaque

cloudflare's entire "what if the api people target was js" instead of linux syscalls e.g. gvisor/containers or vms e.g. kvm/xen is interesting

.btw tld just dropped

.btw a good string, and only one applicant! joins existing TLDs like .fyi, .info, and .how great for mini infosites

it's over, for I've already depicted your idea as accreted and mine as revolutionary

it's so tacky, it looks like the background on a vibecoded promotional website

Disclosing Branch Target Reuse (BTR): speculative execute-after-free in JIT engines. Code gets freed, but branch predictions survive. BTR exploits this mismatch to mount practical Spectre-v2 attacks (cBPF /etc/shadow exploit demo below). Details at: vusec.net/projects/btr

the more I learn about formal verification of software, the more absurd it becomes that it isn't commonplace in all mainstream software development
