Happy to have another talk at Svelte Summit this year ๐ŸŽ‰ Personally think it is mostly for those of us trying to make games with Svelte because those often already heavily rely on Web Workers, but anything that is about processing large datasets (science, finance, ...) can benefit as well ๐Ÿ™‚

Can Web Workers feel like native reactive state? Stephane explores SharedArrayBuffer and Atomics to keep heavy work off the main thread without losing reactivity. See how at Svelte Summit this November in Ljubljana! https://sveltesummit.com

I like Svelte, I think it is a really great framework to build for the web. But there is one thing I absolutely HATE about it. ๐Ÿ˜ก And it absolutely ruined my life. ๐Ÿ’” And that is that it makes it impossible to not be frustrated when you are expected to work with something else in a project. ๐Ÿ˜ญ

when you don't have anything better to do so you start tinkering with some basic javascript. data generated in one thread and visualized in the other thread based on a shared memory block. no data passed around and no blocking of the main thread

fun activiy of the day: browsing through an entire not very well written entangled mess of a python ui codebase tracking every call to the database to see how it is used because why would anyone include a db-scheme in their codebase ?

when you are kind of in between projects and start messaging your line manager: "Shall we circle back over that and have a quick sync in an offline base touch to ensure we have all our ducks in one line" (ready to go to linkedin afterwards)

Summer is the perfect time to look out at the rain, remember my name and think about the fun projects I can work on. Planning on restarting my blog, that I abandoned like 3 years ago. And started working on a series of short stories set in Bergen inspired by WoD (might dump then on a blog as well)

Yesterday I visited the Observatory in Belgium, celebrating it's 200th anniversary ๐Ÿฅณ a blast from the past to see the telescope I worked with for years โค๏ธ and kind of humbled they still use my now 15 year old software to capture and analyze images of the sun ๐ŸŒž

Today I was fondly remembering playing Planetarion (and similar) 20+ years ago and how impressed I was it would update the game for 10s of thousands of players every hour. When it suddenly dawned on me it doesn't actually do all those calculations within a few microseconds when the hour changes

december means advent of code ๐ŸŽ„ this year, like every year, I will be using a language unknown to me beforehand because suffering is important (I guess) this year that falls on "Julia" โค๏ธ excited to see how it goes ๐Ÿ˜„

Is it just me wiggling my mouse to find the cursor, 100% convinced you see it move somewhere in the bottom, spend another 5 minutes trying to find it, occasionally catching a glimpse of it from the corner of the eye. Just to discover it is not plugged in ?

using #svelte transitions? consider pure CSS where possible <div in:fly={{ x: -500 }}> Hello World </div> can be achieved with just some "modern css" .div { translate: 0; transition: translate 500ms; @starting-style { translate: -500px; } } smaller bundle and works without js
