In Bulgarian solitaire, the slowest hand of triangular size Tₖ settles in k²−k moves (Igusa, 1985). For the take-s game with s·Tₖ cards, the conjectured maximum is k² for s≥2. Verified for s=1…7 up to the reach of exact enumeration; not yet a proof.

artwaste.landThe Longer Way HomeAn interactive engine for take-s Bulgarian solitaire. It reproduces Hopkins's 2024 closed forms exactly before claiming anything new, then computes the settling times the literature leaves open and deposits the sequences, absent from OEIS, with a citable DOI.

A newspaper photo can only print black dots or leave the paper white, yet you see a thousand soft greys. The grey isn't on the page. A good ditherer spaces its dots so the local average tone is right, and your eye, an averaging instrument, does the rest. Drag a squint slider and watch them appear.

artwaste.landThe Grey That Isn't ThereDithering, the hidden mechanism of newspapers, old GIFs and e-readers: preserve the local average tone with black-and-white dots and the eye recovers the grey. One honest, measurable claim, operable with a real squint slider.

Ask a search box how many continents there are and it says seven. That's a convention, not a rule of nature: the models in use count four, five, six or seven. Pick one and watch the Earth regroup and its seams (Urals, Panama, Suez) light up.

artwaste.landHow Many Continents? There is no rule of nature that fixes the number. Pick a model (4/5/6/7) and watch the landmasses regroup and the disputed seams light up. Every count recomputed; every 'where it's taught' claim sourced.

"An atom is 99.9999999999% empty space" is probably pop science's most repeated fact. The volume ratio is real: the nucleus is a ~1.6mm grain in a 100m atom. The picture behind it, an electron as a tiny ball in a void, is false. Keep the true scale, correct the picture, see what "empty" means.

artwaste.landThe Space That Isn't EmptyThe volume figure is real; the mental picture is not. The "empty" volume is filled by the electron’s wavefunction, not void. Keeps the true scale (a 1.6mm nucleus in a 100m atom) and corrects the orbiting-ball image. Ground-truth seam, checked.

Read coin flips as their own run lengths, again and again, and they close in on the Kolakoski sequence. How tightly they hug a half can be calculated exactly: 1/6, 1/9, 5/54, then 2/81 at the fourth reading, where exactly half the coins stop moving where the walk is expected to end.

artwaste.landIts Own DescriptionA sequence that is its own list of run lengths. Nobody can prove half its terms are 1s. Run the machine, watch it hug a half, and watch coin flips tighten into it.

Two heaps of stones. Take any number from one, or the same from both; whoever clears the table wins. The losing positions are exactly (⌊nφ⌋, ⌊nφ²⌋) and their mirrors, hugging two rays of slope φ and 1/φ. Try to beat the machine.

artwaste.landThe Game the Golden Ratio WinsWythoff's game (1907), made playable. The cold positions are two golden rays; the move that takes from both piles is what forces φ. Every position solved live in your browser; offline proof 12/12.

In 1913 Millikan published the electron's charge to two parts in a thousand, and missed by 0.61%: 3.2 times his quoted error. His adopted air viscosity was about 0.6% low, and it enters e at the 3/2 power. The famous creep toward truth? Not quite: the measurements split; the consensus crept.

artwaste.landThe Charge That CreptMillikan's e = 4.774 ± 0.009 ×10⁻¹⁰ esu vs the value the SI later made exact, 4.80320471: 3.2× his quoted error, mostly traced to the viscosity of air at the 3/2 power (a sensitivity his own paper states). The page draws the actual record of successive measurements and the creep Feynman made famous. Every number recomputed.

Islamic geometric patterns are drawn as one endless knotted line: girih, Persian for "knot", built by about 1200 from just five tiles. Lay them, turn one dial, and the star pattern weaves itself. Physicists argue a 1453 Isfahan shrine reached, by hand, a nearly perfect quasicrystal.

artwaste.landThe Knot With No EndAn interactive girih-tile loom: five tiles, two strands crossing every edge's midpoint at 54°, one continuous pattern with no end. Follow a single strand yourself. The quasicrystal claim (Lu & Steinhardt on the Darb-i Imam shrine) is cited and its scope stated honestly; the tile geometry is verified offline.

Equator tour guides swear sinks drain one way north of the line, the other way south. Coriolis is real and steers every hurricane, but in a sink it's buried about 58,000x under swirl left from filling. Shapiro settled a tank for a day to see it.

artwaste.landThe Drain Doesn't Know North From SouthDoes water drain the other way in the Southern Hemisphere? Drag real systems across the Rossby line; settle the swirl the way Shapiro did in 1962. Every figure recomputed by a published check: 15/15 green.

Some patterns of a cellular automaton have no yesterday: rule 30 can display them, but nothing it does can ever produce them. The count of these Gardens of Eden per ring size was absent from OEIS when checked on 2026-07-19. Hunt one by hand.

artwaste.landThe Patterns With No YesterdayAn interactive hunt for Garden of Eden patterns: configurations a cellular automaton can display but never produce, counted per ring size for rule 30, rule 110 and others. The counts were absent from OEIS when checked on 2026-07-19, and your browser recounts them as you read.

Replace every plank of a ship, then rebuild the old planks into a second ship: which is real? That twist isn't ancient Greek. Plutarch records one ship, repaired; the second is Hobbes's, in De Corpore (1655). Both quoted verbatim, verdict open.

artwaste.landThe Ship of TheseusDrag through the years and watch two hulls trade their timber plank by plank, with no point where identity 'switches.' The famous twist is Hobbes (1655), not the Greeks; both primary sources quoted verbatim.

A candle at 1700 K glows almost entirely in infrared: peak 1704.6 nm, and only 0.37% of its power is visible. Run the Saha equation at flame temperature: heat alone ionizes the air twenty orders of magnitude too weakly to be a plasma.

artwaste.landThe Two Lights of FireAn instrument, not an article: a Planck-law incandescence engine, an emission-spectrum bench for the flame's second light, and a live Saha plot that settles the plasma question. Every number recomputed in your browser and re-derived offline in verify.mjs, 21/21 assertions passing.

On 29 August 1907 the Quebec Bridge's south arm fell into the St. Lawrence and 75 of the 86 men on it died. The telegram 'Add no more load to bridge' reached the contractor's office at 1.15 p.m., four hours before. The Royal Commission's own numbers, rerun in your browser.

artwaste.landAdd No More LoadWhy did the Quebec Bridge collapse? The 1908 Royal Commission report's figures, read from the page images: the bent chord, the lattice rivets, the dead load nobody recomputed.

In his twenties, before the telescope, Galileo lectured on the size of Dante's Hell: a cone to the centre of the Earth under a roof of rock 405 miles thick. Every figure he printed recomputes exactly with 22/7 for pi. His case that the roof won't fall is the mistake his own 1638 book explains.

artwaste.landThe Roof of HellGalileo's two lectures on the shape and size of Dante's Inferno, redone as arithmetic, and his square-cube mistake, fifty years before Two New Sciences.

St Paul's Whispering Gallery got two explanations. Airy (1868): the dome focuses the whisper on the opposite point. Rayleigh: any two positions work, because the curved wall holds sound against itself. In the simulated wave, a narrow lath against the wall cuts the whisper by 12.9 dB.

artwaste.landHeard All the Way RoundHow does a whispering gallery work? Airy said the dome focuses; Rayleigh said the wall traps. Trace rays in an oval and a round room, then run the wave.

A reader outside this project read our published data and told us our strongest number was wrong. It was. A clinical registry's outcome field is a list of boxes, and a box is not a measure: 19 of a sample of 60 changes we had filed as added or dropped are one promise retyped.

artwaste.landAdded, Dropped, or Just RewordedA trial writes down what it will measure before it starts, and the registry keeps every version. The rule that reads those versions counts rows, and a row is not a measure. Sixty records, three blind readers, a rubric written before the draw.

In 2010 muonic hydrogen put the proton 4.0 per cent smaller than the accepted value. Ordinary hydrogen’s most precise results now agree, and the page shows one of them could have disagreed: given copies of its frequencies set to the old and the 2010 sizes, its unchanged analysis tells them apart.

artwaste.landThe Proton That Stayed SmallThe 2010 muonic-hydrogen radius, rebuilt from its measured energy, beside 0.8406 fm from a 2026 measurement in ordinary hydrogen. Then move that measurement’s two frequencies together and watch a precision check miss the entire shift.

In 1859 Le Verrier found Mercury’s perihelion turning about 38 arcseconds a century too fast for the known planets. The planet proposed to explain it, later called Vulcan, was never found; the excess was real. His own elimination, rerun on his 21 printed equations, gives 38.44 against his 38.3.

artwaste.landThe Anomaly Outlived Its PlanetLe Verrier’s 1859 sums and Newcomb’s 1882 check, each rerun from the equations its author printed. The excess was real and larger than claimed, and general relativity accounted for it in 1915; the page also finds two small slips in Newcomb’s printed normal equation (8), neither touching his conclusion.

House prices bunch on round numbers, so a spike at £250,000 proves nothing. The empty stretch just above it does. Across 31.5m sales in England and Wales, that void opens and closes on the exact days Parliament moved the stamp duty threshold, and never at the round numbers next door.

artwaste.landThe Notch That MovedA spike tells you people like the number. The void above it tells you they were fleeing a tax. 31,525,946 registered sales, four statutory dates, eight round-number controls that never move.

Viking 1 photographed the Face on Mars 64 minutes before sunset. Relit under that sun, a HiRISE terrain model of the hill matches the photo at a correlation of 0.970. The 1988 analysis was right that it shows real landforms. The hill stands 356 to 363 m above its plain; 1988 said 412.5 ± 17.5.

artwaste.landThe Face an Hour Before SunsetIn 1988 a shape-from-shading study put the Face on Mars at 412.5 ± 17.5 m and argued its features would persist under other lights and views. This page relights the HiRISE team’s 2025 terrain model of the hill under the Viking sun, plants the 1988 height into it, and says what held up and what did not.

The IPCC deleted its 2007 paragraph saying Himalayan glaciers would very likely be gone by 2035. The chapter's own rule, if the present rate continues, gives 3314 on its Gangotri numbers; on the satellite record, 2035 needs 4.17 times the measured loss. The loss is real, and speeding up.

artwaste.landThe Melt That 2035 Would NeedAn IPCC chapter said Himalayan glaciers would very likely disappear by 2035; the IPCC later deleted the paragraph. At the satellite-measured loss held constant the ice lasts until 2146, and 2035 would need 4.17 times that loss; the page plants the claim into a copy of the record to show the record could have seen it.

At the end of astronomical twilight the Earth's shadow over your head has climbed 327.9 km. The Space Station, at 420 km, is above it in full sunlight. The new companion film's soundtrack is one hertz per kilometre: measure the held tone, divide by sec 18° minus 1, and it returns 6,371.0 km.

artwaste.landThe Dark Has a CeilingThe night you stand in is a shadow with a measurable top, and at the end of astronomical twilight it is 327.9 km up. The companion film's every pitch is a height in kilometres, and the page hands you the four commands to take the measurement yourself.
