Man 2016 internet would have loved a "Why the XXXX Super Bowl Champions Are the Worst of All Time" piece (2007 Giants)

Love you and your work - can't wait for your piece in February about how actually winning the SB in a blowout doesn't tell us much about the Vikings ability to dominate on a longer timeframe

Harrison Butker (Kansas City) ranks dead last in field goal pts over expected at -7.69, behind Trey Smack -7.28 (Green Bay) & Harrison Mevis -6.87 (Free Agent) Leaders: Will Reichard +9.47 (Minnesota), Chase McLaughlin +8.78 (Tampa Bay) & Ka'imi Fairbairn +8.56 (Houston)

not with as much energy (bc of the generally higher sustainability of offense) but yes. the bills and lions fanbases are pretty aware of the flaws and why their teams aren't really undefeated material and they largely would remain that aware if they were, seven weeks in, undefeated

Would you say that if the offensive side was historically good with a rough defense?

Looks like the top twenty teams in offensive/defensive disparity relative to that season's average in points per drive (excluding 2026) finished with an average record of .633, suggesting it's better to be good at at least one thing but being dominant at one thing isn't enough to persistently win

one frustration people in analytics had w 4th down decisions is that "contextual factors" always altered a model's recommendation toward punting, never going for it. never saw a coach use his gut to be more aggressive. then dan campbell blew that shit out of the water

man sometimes the vikings defense feels like intricately organized chaos with a series of complicated if-then calls that make figuring out who drops and who blitzes really difficult and sometimes they just fucking send eight guys at the quarterback
