The Fifth Sphere's location behind enemy lines necessitates a different kind of warfare than the exploration and expansion to this point. To that end, small and highly mobile battlegroups are formed and deployed on hit-and-fade missions meant to draw Imperium forces away from the Tau.

SOLDIER 3rd Class - Aiden Clear The son of climate scientists for the ShinRa company, their untimely deaths galvanized him to join SOLDIER at an incredibly young age. Initially anxious to repay Wutai for the deaths of his parents, he became disillusioned with war after experiencing so much death.

With no path toward revenge and with the Wutai war over, Aiden grew restless, listless, and lost all sense of ambition. When you've dedicated yourself to a war that will no longer come, what's left?

Silas Baenval, formerly of House Baenval. Baenval was targeted by a rival house for elimination, causing them to flee into the Shadowfell briefly before making their way to the surface. Most of the house scattered, seeking some semblance of a normal life.

After being arrested for the crime of being a Drow, he was broken out of prison by a professional thief, who used his skills in combat as part of her escape plan. Afterwords, he operated as a hired bodyguard, sellsword, or whatever other physically imposing job was needed. Better than prison.

Araris, survivor of Order 66. Assigned to negotiations in the far outer rim just before Order 66, he wasn't even assigned any Clones. By the time the lengthy negotiations were complete, the only contact that could be made with the Jedi council was the repeating message from Obi-Wan.

Hollie Windghast is a Gue'vesa attachment to the Vi'mal. The team's most recent addition, she intends to serve as a guide for the Tau on the labyrinthine Imperium worlds, guiding them to the perfect locations to strike and enabling a more efficient retreat. Her reasons for doing so remain a mystery.

Aun'ui Yr'val Nan'cova, the Ethereal Commander of the Vi'mal and the team's only point of contact with the greater Tau Empire. None of the team know where she's located, but her ability to provide points assignments for the team suggests a keen understanding of the battlespace.

Shas'vre Vi'sun Va'hna is the oldest surviving member of Vi'mal, the most senior veteran. The nature of the Vi'mal is that it frequently faces combat too steep to be won by normal means, and losses are somewhat expected. Still, each life lost serves the Greater Good. He hopes.

Shas'la D'yi Demlok has the distinction of being the newest Tau member of the Vi'mal. His excellence in combat, and especially in stealth, would normally have put him on track to pilot a stealth suit in open war. Instead, he plies his skill as the team's heavy rifleman, a job he relishes.

Shas'o Ant'vahs'an is the commander of one such guerilla unit, the Vi'mal 'wasp' squad. Named for a flying, stinging insect on Vior'la which was known for its aggression, the Vi'mal strike at Imperium worlds and fade, identifying those planets abandoned and undefended by the Imperium.
