Sir Ian McKellen performing a monologue from Shakespeare’s Sir Thomas More on the Stephen Colbert show. Never have I heard this monologue performed with such a keen sense of prescience. Nor have I ever been in this exact historical moment.TY Sir Ian, for reaching us once again.

Whole Parliament supporting a tax dodge run by a foreign company
The lack of awareness is astounding
Just ewww
Charity is a failure of government #auspol
The Kmart Wishing Tree Appeal is bringing a little bit of joy to Australian families doing it tough.
And that’s something our whole Parliament can support.
"Good people should be able to have weapons, bad people should have none." Premier David Crisafulli won't enrol Queensland in the national gun buyback. This year 250 guns were stolen Jan-Aug; mainly from Wide Bay–Burnett & Darling Downs where most registered firearms owners reside. #qldpol

Queensland Oodgeroo MP Amanda Stoker replaces Amanda Camm as minister for child safety, domestic violence prevention, families, seniors & disability. She was a federal senator from 2018 to 2022. She's an advocate for abortion criminalisation & nuclear energy. #qldpolwww.abc.net.au/news/2026-10...

Paywalled - but the headline really got me- in the week that mp Helen Haines lost both her legs to male violence - the courier fail thinks it’s appropriate to frame Fatima paymans abuser as (just a regular) *bunnings *working *churchgoing *dad

Yeah it’s not “ghost land” it’s a bloody floodplain! Bleijie snuck this announcement in on a day when half of tge land in the picture was underwater.
Why the big push to raise gst, when if we just taxed gas properly, we’d have cash to spare
#auspol
Grattan podcast guy spoke like a calculator, but wants to raise gst, drop income taxes & raise s-security $ but itd be by nearly the same amount as he’s getting from gst
Media and politicians are making a lot of noise about safety right now
Maybe the louder discussion should be about Mental Health

(Kon k has some good points about mens violence too… but media just seems to be pushing terror angle )

Gas Companies Want You To Believe THIS. Are They Right?
This week, we’re joined by Alison Reeve from the Grattan Institute to ask who actually owns Australia’s gas and why we’re told taxing it is too complicated.

Senior drama enrolments have fallen 43 per cent in a decade. But the deeper issue is whether students are genuinely choosing against the arts, or losing access to the experiences that help them discover what matters, John Frew writes. #Education #ArtsEducation #auspol
Yesterday: “Jacqui Lambie: get over it, OK? It is actually satirical. Have a bit of a laugh, Jacqui, and lighten up.”
Today: "“The video went up without my actually seeing it, and I was not aware of the content of the video."
I spoke to @ChrisKohlerNews about why investors are walking away, and what that leaves millennials with. We also get into a housing solution nobody’s talking about, and whether corporate fines do anything at all.

Mental illness, extremism or terrorism?
Amid the disgusting politicisation of the attack on Helen Haines, Aleta Moriarty checks the science and her personal experience of political hate

Dunno if they were a heritage variety but I picked up some tiny apples from the markets the other week… about the size of a golf ball but soooooo yummy
Editorial: Labor's gas reservation policy exists because the government won’t properly tax gas exports and it won’t properly tax gas exports because foreign mining companies have told it not to. trib.al/fBDzsHa
#auspol What kind of politician won't vote to end the depraved & dangerous policy of handcuffing women to metal bars while they are labouring, giving birth and trying to hold their baby? May your pointless cruelty corrode your mental health & haunt you always.

Diesel is in critical short supply.
Don't those Queensland farmers & truckers who voted for the LNP realise that the 630 smoke-belching diesel buses that Crisafulli ordered will be competing with Queensland farmers & truckers for that limited diesel?
And it will send diesel prices up.
We could have had Labor and a man who championed free school lunches and 50 cent public transport fares, instead we went with a party that wants to lock up kids, is destroying historical green space for an Olympic stadium, and loves carbon emissions.
Meanwhile, Qld Premier Crisa Fossil Fuelli's heroes, Trump, JD Vance and Hegseth will escalate the war in Iran.
Diesel will become more expensive and scarce. It's possible Persian Gulf oil could be cut permanently.
Is JD going to give you diesel to run your buses? #auspol
By early next week we'll have announced 88 candidates. And we're honestly chuffed to see the likes of Monica Smit describing this as 'VERY concerning'.
A 105-turbine wind farm proposed 300 metres from a Ramsar wetland. Threatened bitterns, brolgas, fairy terns already under pressure. Bird flu hit the area in August. The developer cut turbines by a third and threw in $30M for ecology. But the risk is cumulative and irreversible.
We don't need to choose between clean energy and biodiversity. We need proper spatial planning so renewables go where they won't compound existing threats. That means mapping sensitive habitats before approving projects.
Can they even math? 4 lanes is more expensive than 2 and will still be more expensive than 2 in 5 years
I’m guessing the savings must be coming from the environmental protections on pumicestone passage they will trample
Lnp so cocky theyre even screwing over the most loyal old lnp voters #auspol
For Queensland constituents of Pumicestone & surrounding electorates, there was a Crisafulli govt photo-op on the promised new 4-lane Bribie Island bridge. Whilst there is some work underway it won't be completed until sometime closer to the Olympics/Paralympics 2032. #qldpol
"The Fitzroy has passed with flying colours. It's official. Signed, sealed & delivered," Queensland Premier David Crisafulli foolishly declared of the Games rowing. World Rowing President Jean-Christophe Rolland replied that it wasn't approved. #qldpolwww.insidethegames.biz/articles/wor...
