Many people know what intensive animal farming looks like on land: thousands of animals confined in crowded spaces, dependent on supplied feed, vulnerable to disease, and producing huge amounts of waste. But do you know that intensive factory farming also happens underwater?

We all have more in common than differences that set us apart. We all long for companionship, compassion, and respect. We are all deserving of lives free from abuse.

The fact that fish feel pain is well documented. Yet the magnitude of the uninvestigated and unaddressed suffering in Tasmania's salmon farming industry is almost unfathomable. This week we lodged a landmark legal complaint to try to change that. We see them, and we know you do too.

BREAKING: Animals Australia has lodged formal complaints with Biosecurity Tasmania calling for an immediate investigation into potential breaches of Tasmania’s Animal Welfare Act across the state’s salmon farming industry.

She showed us all what it means to live with empathy, courage, and hope 🧡 Thank you, Gloria Steinem. The world is a kinder place because you were here. May you rest knowing that the change you fought for lives on in a global movement for social justice.

BREAKING NEWS: Forestry Corporation NSW has once again pushed back their plans for logging in Glenbog Forest, this time until February 2027. February will be upon us before we know it. We can’t afford to take the pressure off even for a moment — the animals are relying on us to end this for good.

This is not the news we had hoped to be bringing you. Change is rarely the work of a single moment — it's made by people willing to keep showing up. Thank you for showing up again and again for animals. ❤️‍🩹

Bred to be raced, confined, exported, injured and discarded when they're no longer 'profitable'. Born to be loved for the gentle, loyal, loving individuals they are. Greyhounds — like every dog — are companions, not commodities.

The H5 strain of bird flu has reached Australia. Governments are taking emergency action to stop its spread. Yet they still support recreational shooting of native birds — driving terrified animals from the habitats meant to protect them. You can't protect wildlife while supporting its slaughter.

Bird flu is now on the Australian mainland. Many will focus on eggs and industry impacts. We're thinking about the animals. Around the world, this strain has killed hundreds of millions of birds. And it's intensive animal production systems that helped create the conditions for its spread.

BREAKING: Fresh allegations of misconduct, bullying, and officers who openly identify as duck shooters have confirmed what a 2017 government review first found — Victoria's Game Management Authority is a fox in charge of the henhouse

abc.net.au'Us duck hunters': Victorian watchdog accused of siding with shootersThe Game Management Authority is accused of turning a blind eye to illegal behaviour by shooters while bullying wildlife rescuers and anti-hunting campaigners.

Victoria's duck shooting 'regulator' promotes the very activity it's supposed to oversee. The Allan Govt wants to make it official — a hunting 'superagency' with even greater powers. An ABC exposé confirms it: conflicted and compromised. 🚨 ACT NOW to scrap this Bill: animalsaus.co/4x6qpQw

Glenbog State Forest in NSW is a wildlife refuge, but logging machinery is scheduled to destroy it all. Let decision makers know that this thriving forest is more valuable than cheap exports, and the wildlife currently living here should be protected: animalsaus.co/4t1CpQ9

We're not born with intentions to treat other animals like products, we’re taught to. As we grow older, we unconsciously copy those around us. We have all inherited so much of what we believe and how we live. Children see animals as friends, not food — a reminder of the compassion within us all.

BREAKING: Legislation to end greyhound racing has now officially been made law in Aotearoa New Zealand. Today marked the third and final reading of the bill in Parliament, which passed with overwhelming support 112 votes to 11. The ban will take effect from 1 August 2026.

Fish not only feel fear — they can sense when their friends are afraid too. Whether we have feet or fins, we all want the same basic things — safety, respect, freedom. 💙

Senedd (Parliament) Regional Member Jane Dodds said “by passing this bill, we will be saying as a nation that forseeable and unavoidable harm to animals cannot be justified in the name of sport or in the service of gambling revenues.” 🧡👏

South Australia friends: Only days away from the state election, do you know where the parties stand on key animal protection issues? Our friends from Australian Alliance for Animals have put together this handy scorecard: Full guide available on their website: https://bit.ly/47HnId1

He can’t lay eggs, so his life is thrown away 💔 While it may seem obvious that only female chickens can lay eggs, most people have never considered what happens to the males who hatch in the egg industry — they’re killed in their first day of life.

Most caring Australians would never knowingly buy cage eggs. But more than half of all cage eggs never reach a carton — they’re hidden in every day foods. We're shining a light on these ‘hidden eggs’ with our new ad campaign, now playing on major radio networks and popular podcasts. Listen here ▶️
