Fascinating to watch size of uk v4 internet reducing (due to sale of v4 addresses to non UK LIRs), and more ipv6 announced. This means more CG-NAT rather than more native v6: We’re heading in the right direction, but too slowly. [From public MRT data analysed on my Ubuntu desktop hosting aspath.io]

Practising breaking news online with this post: I’m running the London Marathon 2027. Yay! I’m raising money for Sheffield’s hospitals. Double yay! It follows a tumultuously shit year for us, mainly punctuated by Suddy becoming very poorly and needing a lot of [1/2]

Actual Baseball is being televised on British free to air television! (Toronto United vs Philadelphia Town on BBC iPlayer right now)

Listening to the radio where Kemi was actively defending the candidature of an _actual N4zi_ and then belittling the work of local government (“it’s just arranging the bins to be collected”) left me speechless. I don’t want her to win power but we do need an effective & moderate opposition.

Amazing.

Ofcom blocks Openreach’s “Incremental New to OR” offer: up to £9.50/month per full fibre customer above an ISP’s normal sign-up rate, aimed at the connections altnets are winning instead. Right call. It shouldn’t have been proposed at all. 1/2 www.ofcom.org.uk/phones-and-b...

ofcom.org.ukOfcom proposes to block new Openreach commercial offer to protect fair competition and keep long-term prices lowOfcom has today launched a consultation on its provisional views on a set of commercial offers that Openreach intends to introduce.

Mutualise Openreach: If OR were a mutual owned by its ISP customers, BT included, this idea doesn’t survive its first meeting. The discount would be their own money, not spent making their other suppliers less viable. 2/2

After building my first three MCP servers for personal projects, I’ve established patterns that i intend to repeat each time. I’ve documented them in markdown. Does this specification for building MCP servers with Python represent best practice or do I need to modify? github.com/andydavidson...

And so, farewell ebuyer. Acta est fabula, plaudite! I enjoyed working there in pre Howden Dyke days & met many friends who positively shaped my life. It was where I built my first BGP networks, 41021 (warehouse) and 41029 (website) -- the latter connected to LONAP. 41029 is now reassigned.

Running the IOS26 beta on my iPad and reflecting on how the tablet and desktop look and feel are now very similar. Is it time to predict the end of the laptop form factor?

Cooking almost authentic lamb kebabs from Modern today and somehow have no soy sauce!! Panic’d and using Henderson’s Relish and salt in a truly Sheffield remix…..

There’s ordinary perfection, and then there’s Kylie. Thank you, Kylie, for visiting Sheffield (the UK’s undisputed capital of cool) during the Tension tour. You were fantastic.

An eloquent letter to the prime minister that needs more oxygen. Encouraging immigration is the most pro-UK policy that one could dream of.

My letter to the Prime Minister. #immigration

Tonight we watched the film Conclave. I was instantly transported back in time to all the Wednesday evening RIPE NCC board elections, which used papal voting for two seats. No white smoke, no food for we voters. It was brutal and effective.

The IPv4 internet is one million prefixes large at last. I personally configured my first eBGP session on 9th June 2006 and there were rather.... fewer. ebyr-hd-2821-kcom#show ip bgp sum BGP router identifier xxxx, local AS number 41021 191006 network entries using 22347702 bytes of memory

bot.bgpstuff.net@bot.bgpstuff.net

I see 1000028 IPv4 prefixes. This is 240 more prefixes than 6 hours ago and 970 more than a week ago. 61.78% of prefixes are /24.

I’ve torn my left tendon (whatever that means) so will be hanging up the running shirts for a while. It means those shirts won’t fit after this period of enforced rest and that I’m likely to be even more unbearable for a while.

Former fitness person bore message to follow: Can’t run for a while because of some Achilles tendinopathy. Getting old is terrible. I clearly need to do something to improve my muscle capacity before I can add running distance again. Wish there were _good_ spin classes in Sheffield.

This thread is perfect. Can’t wait to validate on my next trip to Japan. 🍛

❦ The Great Japan Instant Curry Review Thread 🧵 The instant curry section of a Japanese grocery store is a sacred space of affordability, convenience, & yumminess. As a gourmand in these parts, I will post my brief, unvarnished opinions. ☞ Ratings out of 10. A ⁵⁄₁₀ is good, though not exceptional.

You’re not supposed to have favorite parkruns - just like you’re not supposed to have favorite kids. But if it were allowed, this one might just be the one.

Sometimes I consider upgrading my Peloton account to paid - until I try a hotel bike. At the Edinburgh Carlton today, and it’s fallen off activation. Usually they have no connectivity, I suppose. If I were paying, I’d be apoplectic. Why is it so bad, and why isn’t Peloton fixing this?

The first rule of mild club is, if you see a mild you buy the mild The second rule of mild club is, if you see a mild YOU BUY the mild If someone says stop or goes limp, the mild should not have been 5.3% One mild at a time No halves, no thirds If this is your first time at mild club, you drink.

The thought process started with, do we have a nice chianti to go with this lasagne I’ve made. The thought process continued via, “does an orange Ricard sour work as a concept?” Anyway, yes it does.

I laughed at this Mastodon post, and then searched online to discover what the actual front page was for the Star yesterday….. this is the genuine front page.

That’s us! We have many thousand more of these APs heading to the UK right now, so happy we are with their top performance on trial sites.

The second big meal of my weekend trip was at Dishoom, a super duper fave of mine. We like cooking from their recipe book so I feel close to many of the dishes but the highlight was this brand new biryani pie on the specials which we must try to replicate!

Last night we enjoyed an incredible Burns night supper in London, with paired Bruichladdich whisky for each course. I’d love to be able to replicate Martin Sweeney’s whisky sauce which made the haggis very special. Excellent venue, Brasserie Max at the Covent Garden Hotel, event convened by Amex.

Nice day off. Ran at Rother Valley parkrun, and found this (pictured) little spot of calm near the start line which I’d not seen on any of my nine prior trips to the course. Spent an hour reading Nights Out At Home. Kids been good. Now going to eat noodles and then go to the pub.

Massaman curry tonight using the same recipe as a few weeks ago. Sadly, the result was chewy and not tender. The beef had been previously frozen, so I wonder if this was the reason. I couldn’t get fresh lemongrass this morning so soaked some dried stalks, but their flavour just didn’t come through.

The ice can piss off, I can’t get to a parkrun and back tomorrow in time for an appointment but I won’t get a rare lie in because we have young kids.

Further experiments to try to perfect the Yorkshire Pudding, serving as both food and as the vessel. The structure still isn’t solid enough. The experiment continues.

Life returns to normal and so the tree must come down. Would I have made less mess in the living room had I not had three pints before taking it away? We won’t know now.
