Andy Carter

Hello. 👋 I'm Andy, a web developer based in Sheffield, which is in the north of England. I work as a Technical Team Lead at Evoluted. My role involves helping mentor other developers, as well as writing code in PHP and JavaScript. I'm also an accessibility advocate, the web should be for all.

Interesting read about how yesterday's PHP vulnerabilities were found and the changes happening to secure PHP. thephp.foundation/blog/2026/10...

The PHP security team is giving advance notice: Upcoming security release Wed, Oct 21st 2026, 14:00UTC, two critical vulnerabilities, both rated CVSSv4 9.2. PHP users are encouraged to prepare to update. Earlier release if details become public or active exploit evidence.

I'm excited to announce that I'm speaking at this year's #TechMids conference in Birmingham next month. conf.techmids.org

I'm speaking at @nuxuk.bsky.social Sheffield this Thursday evening. I'll be sharing my personal experiences of 'blowing up' the Web, looking at problematic UX and broken layouts when we enlarge websites. www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/nux-sheffi...

Notes on the inaugural Developers Up North conference: andycarter.dev/blog/the-ina... #dunc26

Today, I spoke at the inaugural #DUNC26 in Hull—a real gem of a city. The conference packed so much diversity of content into a one-day, one-track event, BUT! My favourite takeaway is that every single speaker listed a personal site/blog in their slides. I visited every one of them. What a day.

I'm listening to a podcast and they're talking about fatty caterpillars. A bit of a coincidence considering I'm on my way to speak about a hungry caterpillar at Developers Up North in Hull tomorrow. 🐛 #dunc26

Finally tried using PHPStorm again due to this post. I am really impressed by how much more accessible it has become.
