The Seattle City Council will be voting on a proposal to require RV residents to register for a specialized permit. The package would also increase funding for services and outreach. But many providers and advocates are concerned the legislation will push hundreds further into the margins.
MAJOR NEWS: The Seattle Social Housing Developer is announcing its first new construction project, in the Central District at 2402 E Yesler Way. The SSHD board is set to vote on property acquisition momentarily.
Construction is set to start next year and wrap in 2028.
Stepped out of council meeting to take a call; came back to hear Rob Saka railing against Katie Wilson's proposal to add new public restrooms because "we can't even get our own bathhouse in order!"
Saka is shouting and shouting, accusing the mayor's office of disinvesting in an unrelated encampment sweeps team. "It might be a political bone to throw at your democratic socialist base, but it does our communities harm!" He's talking about putting the sweeps teams back in human services.
Vi Hilbert grew up speaking Lushootseed at a time when many Indigenous children were punished for speaking their native languages. She went on to teach at UW for 15 years, becoming a champion of keeping Native languages alive. This Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we honor her legacy.
Seriously, what would it take to redevelop the golf course? It's prime real estate between two light rail stations in a very expensive city with a housing crisis. Is eminent domain even conceivable? Can the city buy the golf course otherwise?
Look, I love Seattle and think it's an easy contender to be a top 3 city in the United States, but in the *world*? Any random European capital has ten times as much walkable urbanist goodness, let's not get ahead ourselves lol
i guess my take on the whole "should we throw trans people under the bus y/n" thing is that in this sort of environment, where the opposition party shot itself repeatedly in the dick and balls by starting an illegal war that made gas cost a million dollars, it shouldn't even be on the table
trans people are also just flatly correct to rage at Dems for wavering on trans rights because immigration advocates did not do so when Dems started wavering on immigration under Obama and that led us to Biden adopting Trump I immigration policy almost wholesale
After a very long debate, this amendment was just APPROVED.
The vote was 3-2, with CMs Rinck, Foster and Lin in favor and Saka and Kettle against.
There are some outstanding concerns around the amendment's exact language, so I would expect additional tweaks when the bill comes to full council.
NEW: Alexis Mercedes Rinck has proposed an amendment to Rob Saka's SAFER Streets Act that would give the City Traffic Engineer explicit authority to implement street changes in historic districts (Pioneer Square, Pike Place) without getting the approval of the local boards.
Hours after Mayor Wilson announces her gun violence reduction plan, the Seattle City Council passed their own resolution. Some councilmembers also slammed the mayor’s proposal.
Thanks for asking, KUOW! Yes, we are winning for renters: from banning pet rent and other rental junk fees, to adding density throughout our City, to SEPA reform, to my Executive Order streamlined permitting, our renter majority city is seeing real improvements to affordability…
Gun violence in Seattle isn't a new problem, and my neighborhood has been hit especially hard by it. Weirdly, none of these companies had anything to say about it before we had a socialist mayor.
I wonder what changed?
My impression is this is pretty typical, and its another thing that persuades me that... to be honest... The Cosmopolitan Way Of Life is simply superior. The people throwing the authoritarian temper tantrum are simply those ignorant of its benefits.

If Wilson had this kind of history the Seattle Times would be shouting this from the heavens. Kang shares ideology with the opinion board though so they don't care.
"But," you might say, "Julie Kang was just the owner of the bank! She might not know about these repeated violations & misconduct. It's not like she was the Audit Chair in charge of regulation and compliance--"
Narrator: Julie Kang was the *Audit Chair in charge of bank regulation and compliance.*
Whether a doomed recall effort or a delayed press conference, mainstream news outlets like KOMO and KIRO keep giving oxygen to dead stories in an effort to smear Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson. Don’t fall for the spin.

I don't have even a single ounce of respect for "legacy journalism". Even if the wild claims about Mamdani's aides sending press releases to favorable influencers were somehow nefarious (they wouldn't be), you still would not catch me standing up for the fucking New York Times.
They have repeatedly burned all their credibility and still they demand respect because they are the oh so noble paper of record. Privileges of the ancien regime type shit.
Unusual joint statement from House Dem leadership on MGP & Golden breaking and voting for the GOP rule today. Jeffries and his team call it “a significant breach of trust” requiring “a serious response.” Golden is retiring; MGP is up for reelection in a red-leaning district.
the thing is that next congress MGP won’t be anywhere close to the deciding vote so there is no downside to stripping all of her committee assignments and making an example of her
even if you think you need a blue dog for her seat you can find a better one, there are limits
