By the way, there are at least two other examples of the Neal Adams/Murphy Anderson pairing on Superman covers. Both incorporated photos. I always found it interesting that Neal chose Anderson's more traditional line to contrast (mesh?) with the photos' realism.

I think Heritage has missed a credit on this Superboy cover. They only list Neal Adams, but there's no way those are his inks. Based on the hands alone I'm guessing Murphy Anderson.

How many people could even CONCEIVE of doing this, let alone do it and so brilliantly on a primetime TV show. ORSON WELLES transforms himself (that’s full costume hair & make-up) into ‘Falstaff’ on THE DEAN MARTIN SHOW (1968)

Jesus... you try your humble best with a piece for the Asner Family charity auction and then your alleged friend Kevin Nowlan rolls up like this...

I really hope, if they actually produce that flying Te$la, that only the drivers will perish in the inevitable crashes to come. I would hate to get squished by one of those morons.

Another Terry Austin example also includes legends Neal Adams and Dick Giordano (and one of the best superhero book ever - Superman vs. Muhammad Ali). Terry does backgrounds only here, and he's using a Hunt 102 nib (with bits of fading marker). Interesting how Dick tweaked the clouds in panel 1.

I'm obsessed with the work of inker Terry Austin, particularly in the '70s and '80s. There are a couple of great examples for auction at Heritage now. First... check this page inked over Pat Broderick. Looks like Terry used a lot of Rapidograph here, and tons of tones for a b&w book.

We're saying goodbye to Our Good Boy today. Berkley has been with us for 17 of his 18 years and we love him dearly. It sucks that the last thing a dog need us to do for him is also the hardest thing, but that's the role we took on when we made him part of our family. Glamour shot from younger days.

Sigh... I guess I'll never own a page from one of my favorite jobs of all time: the Star-Lord issue of Marvel Preview by Byrne and Austin. Just mind blowing stuff, especially from Austin (working for black and white). This great one just sold for 14k at Heritage.

It's become kind of a key issue because of the early (first?) Spawn ad.

Please don't overreact to the SCOTUS SAVE database decision today Page 6 of the decision makes clear that we are in the 90 day statutory window when mass changes cannot be made to voter lists! Yeah it's a shit decision for the reasons the 3 dissenters say but we can deal with it. More to come...

God tier AI slop from Trump this morning. A picture of his photo op with Xi, except the spouses are gone, a woman who looks like Natalie Harp is in the background, Trump is only wearing one glove, and what looks like a Russian TU-22 bomber is flying overhead. Pure uncut brainrot.

I confess that it may just be a case of simmering familiarity, but I'm not sure I've ever experienced a reading of this speech that so fully allowed me to comprehend each beat.

CHRISTOPHER PLUMMER’s Hamlet was acclaimed on both sides of the Atlantic. Here’s the great man with the famous ‘To Be Or Not To Be’ soliloquy from the 1964 BBC production.

Speaking of Columbo (and always speaking of comics), I mocked these up on Tumblr right about when the podcast was wrapping up. Although he's cameo'd in a few comics, it's unfortunate to say that Columbo never starred in a comic strip of his own. I'm proud of the story titles and the fake NBC brand.

Using the knife as a mirror was improvised by O'Toole, who was just told to revel in his new attire. David Lean supposedly commented, "Clever boy," behind the camera.

Gotta hand it to Mike Grell. I've drawn a lot of superheroes, and a fair number of them were flying, but it's never ever occurred to me to draw one from... this angle. (this page is at Heritage now)

That Cap speech going around again doesn't really sit well with me because you can swap Cap with Hatemonger and it'd still fit. It doesn't state a anything beyond "stick to your opinion, no matter the opposition". I much prefer Beta Ray Bill's "let us make good" speech.

I was once in a room with the man. Before he left he made a point of shaking hands and making eye contact with every single one of us. No one asked him to do it. Very gracious.

Yes! Also, red dye of that intensity sets off an allergy for me. F you, red velvet. Always!

Im going to make enemies here, but I reached for a slice of chocolate cake at a shindig just now and was devastated to discover, as I got a closer look, that it was "red velvet" cake. There's not enough chocolate flavor and the red dye adds nothing but bitterness. Why the hell does it even exist?

Let us not remember George Roussos for the horrific inking he did over such legends as Jack Kirby and Neal Adams, but for his huge catalog of good coloring work, and for the super solid work he did for EC Comics in the '50s. (This page at Heritage now.)

Without saying your age, what’s your favorite movie that came out when you were 20 years old? (Because it's what we saw on my first date with the wife.)
