Trans people need to build and maintain a common conscience that firmly rejects any politics premised on our inferiority. Any political "compromise" that accepts that premise by weighing trans existence against cis comfort is capitulation.

I live in a rural town and, like, I don't know how to tell you this, but the girls play on the boys team and vice versa all the time because otherwise we don't have enough players for a game and it's literally always fine so stop being weirdos about kids sports and just let trans kids play.

Replying to @rafiews.com

Despite orders for polls to remain open for an extra two hours, results are already coming in, including from states with the strongest evidence of voter suppression, like Bahia. This will be a long night. What is happening is an unprecedented crime against democracy in Brazil.

Bolsonaro-friendly mayors appear to be sabotaging public transport on Election Day. Buses aren’t running in Lula-friendly areas, flights and ferries mysteriously canceled. Traffic lights have gone out and people’s power cut in Salvador, indigenous people’s travel restricted

We are watching a coup d’état attempt unfold in real time in Brazil. I’m consumed by desperation.

seriously, as a trans person living in Iowa I'm not voting for this guy and I'm asking you not to either

Erin Reed@erininthemorning.com

Josh Turek of Iowa, Democrat, comes out with one of the worst anti-trans ads yet. Not only is it an anti-sports ad, it proposes a ban on federal funding for gender affirming care. That would hit all medicaid and medicare patients, and any ACA federally-subsidized plans as well. Horrific.

The AFD is run by a white Lesbian who wants to bring Germany back to traditional family values, & accuses all the homophobia in Germany as being the result of immigrants. There are a lot of white queer folks out there who will happily act against there interest in the name of whiteness.

question for the audience: if you were ultra rich (let’s say $25M), what completely frivolous thing are you buying?

Why is "lip service to pride" meant as a silver lining here? Also it isn't just rhetorical backstabbing, it's voting to deprive us of bodily autonomy and equal social standing.

Ex-boss filed a $12 theft charge against an ex-employee because she got a restraining order in response to his creepy behavior. Charge was never prosecuted, but it gave ICE an excuse to arrest and detain her. Congratulations to the 58 Democrats who voted for the Laken Riley Act. You own this.

The KPD warned that "a vote for Hindenburg is a vote for Hitler, and a vote for Hitler is a vote for war." Yet, the liberals sided with Hindenburg. Then Hindenburg appointed Hitler. Then the Reichstag Fire. Then the Enabling Act. Reflexive lesser-evilism gets to the same place with one extra step.

"Above all, never vote for any man who is not true to you. Make allegiance to you the measure of your support. So doing, all parties will seek your vote. You will be felt, and your cause will be irresistible." - Senator Charles Sumner, 1872

Aaron, there is room for nuanced strategy here. For trans people, letting the consultant class glean the lesson that they can completely throw trans people under the bus (e.g., Marcy Kaptur and Amy Acton openly misgendering trans girls in ads) will spell the end of any place for trans people (1/7)

"trans girl" is not in the conservative lexicon. They monster such children, calling them "biological men" to fan parents' panic about keeping the purity of their "girls" secure. It was the same defense used against lesbians and ethnic minorities. It's never acknowledged as what it is: pedophilic.

Evan Urquhart@evanurquhart.bsky.social

We still don't talk about the way medically transitioning trans boys and transmasc nonbinary kids are the primary focus of the moral panic over trans kids.

Sometimes I feel embarrassed to admit to the toll I feel from having a government that uses slurs for me, as the cis folk around me don't even register it. I want to choke back that embarrassment. This shit matters, and is indeed an impeachable offense.

Dr. Samantha Hancox-Li@sjshancoxli.liberalcurrents.com

as longtime readers know i am a longtime hegseth hater, but i think bouie is right here to note that hegseth's remark that "trannies" are out of the military is, by itself, an impeachable offense obviously much else besides, but i want to dwell on this

One particular strength of this story is the ambient sense of societal collapse, with signs of climate change having far surpassed reversibility, political collapse, and frequent epidemics (likely owing in part to the other crises), that creates a near-apocalyptic mood alongside the dystopic horror.

am i allowed to talk about how weird it is that the main way liberals philantropize trans people is by donating money to liberal nonprofits for call centers that beg us not to kill ourselves, instead of directly funding our material needs which, when deprived, lead to suicidality? is that allowed?

Sorry i meant to say we need more celebrities to donate $100 million to suicide hotlines so we can call someone who will beg us not to kill ourselves when the state takes away our medication and housing, and then send the cops to our home if we say the wrong series of words. My bad.

I love living in a country where a politician can sign a law banning the health care I need to live and be greeted as a hero of comity and good sense

PBS News@pbsnews.org

Utah Gov. Spencer Cox has emerged as a prominent voice calling on Americans to step back from the political hostility gripping the country. The Republican governor is expanding on that message in a new book. https://to.pbs.org/3VmTJnx

In the case of House races, the difference between a slight Democratic majority and a supermajority is politically negligible when the Senate is almost certainly going to be controlled by a thin margin in either direction. Punishing anti-trans Democrats in the midterms is exactly the time to do it.

Erin Reed@erininthemorning.com

Holy shit. Marcy Kaptur becomes the latest Dem to release an anti-trans ad, and its worse than all the rest combined. "I voted WITH Republicans to keep transgender ideology out of schools, and let me be clear, boys should NOT play in girls sports." This is getting out of control.

No candidate, regardless of party, will ever get my vote if they call me a "biological man" and advocate for laws targeting my community. Its that simple.

much as the murder of Brianna Ghey mysteriously stopped being about the climate of transphobia in the UK and became about teen access to social media, the death of Jason Arday is, equally mysteriously, no longer about racism and is becoming about free speech in academia
