Hi London! I'm here for React Advanced London on Friday. I'm going home on Sunday, so if anyone wants to grab a bite or get coffee/tea, please DM me!

👀 Exciting news for SPA / client-side routing frameworks! Core Web Vitals now takes into account soft navigations ✅ Measuring score for the full session ❌ Not ONLY the initial page load CrUX now exposes these experimental metrics ➡️ See score impact for the React site

🧪 We've expanded Core Web Vitals to include support for soft navigation (SPA)! Since SPAs are handled differently in implementation, they have required bespoke custom measurement, making it hard to compare directly across sites. Measuring performance is a little art, a little science. 1/2

I'm tired of people speedrunning the end of their careers. The more they brag to leadership how much can be done without reading the code, the more leadership will believe that no one has to read it. Even if verification isn't nearly there, and they're just on a lucky streak before it breaks down.

I don't think that it's all prompting, and that it's all easy. But it doesn't really matter as long as some people make leadership think it is.

It's kind of like bragging about how good the cheap inexperienced part-time contractors who joined the team recently have become.

If you're going to ask an LLM for me, then you should say so in your response. But I'd still want your response to be how you understood the LLM. Otherwise just tell me how you'd prompt it. No benefit of a meat proxy.

Regarding speedrunning, it's not just their careers, it's everyone's careers at companies where enough of certain people believe that all work is prompting, and that it is easy and can be done carelessly.

Generated text doesn't belong in Slack. If you can't explain it in your own writing, you don't understand it. If you don't understand it, I'm not interested. Then I might as well ask the LLM myself.

If anything, the expectations will become so high that you actually don't have time to read the code if you wanna meet them.

Also, don't share a generated presentation that you clearly haven't even read yourself. Btw, the animations are so flashy that people stop hearing little you confusingly say as you look at the slides for only the second time. I don't know the rules of good presentations, but this ain't it.

Explaining corrections to someone/something else might the the furthest I ever feel from flow state. Perhaps flow state requires that there is no transfer of state. And no use of language to perform actions. Both of those seem to use a much less pleasant part of the brain.

This section header design screams LLM and now I see it everywhere. Sometimes the subheader really really doesn't add value.

React’s new 𝚋𝚛𝚘𝚠𝚜𝚎𝚛() API marks a component as browser-only during server rendering. Here, 𝚞𝚜𝚎(𝚋𝚛𝚘𝚠𝚜𝚎𝚛()) suspends on the server before reading a saved draft from 𝚕𝚘𝚌𝚊𝚕𝚂𝚝𝚘𝚛𝚊𝚐𝚎 in the browser. What else would you use it for? react.dev/reference/re...

Docs for React's new 𝚋𝚛𝚘𝚠𝚜𝚎𝚛() API are now live! It's available in Canary. Pass it to 𝚞𝚜𝚎() and it suspends to the closest Suspense boundary on the server, then renders normally in the browser. Looking forward to this in stable React! react.dev/reference/re...

I'm in what I think is a pretty unique situation. I'm in Japan with 5 people. Two of them do not know English well at all. The language we have the most knowledge in is Indonesian, which I started learning 28 days ago. We're just barely able to communicate basic things.

AI is a real workplace game changer. People who previously were bad at their jobs are still bad but are able to produce 15-page reports on any given topic, every day.

I'm in Jakarta, Indonesia. It's hot, but I've never seen temperature this consistent across days before. It's not actually rainy btw.
