Hey there.. first post here. Just signed up after listening to FM devtools podcast, episode with Dan... I am a software developer (front end focused, full stack), amateur flautist, lifelong learner, career changer.

hopped again. This time to #fedora #gnome. linux hopping is silly and a waste of time, but it is a real curse. Anyway, to be frank, i liked #linuxmint but i guess i prefer gnome more. Fedora was always in my mind, so, i said why not give a try? Meanwhile, anyone watching #kde doc? it is quite nice.

studying nest.js and backend development... again so much to learn!.. it never stops and this is good... with llm support, even better but still love reading official docs and watching intro level yt videos.

@roocode.bsky.social Hi, i have heard that the #vscode extension will not be maintained by the original team anymore due to change in their strategy and there is an open source community that might be willing to take it over and contunue maintaining, developing etc. Is there any news on this? Thx

the git graph in #vscode is awesome. to be frank, the editor itself is awesome. I wish we had a documentary on this @cultrepo.bsky.social (i know it is mentioned some in TS documentary but it would be nice to hear more on the development of this editor and how it got here)

i think distro hopping is real. :) Recently was learning about different distros and now exploring #linuxmint. Also in another, i am in wsl2 for a while and can say that it is a good escape point for those who is stuck in W.

just migrating my react+maplibre project to #viteplus. The project is in early stages, so i am expecting nothing fancy right now, or no breaking but I am excited to use this tool for my project.

I wonder, how the ai agents like claude code or so are integrated into the daily work of open-source developers in general? how frequent do you use, how do they use it? make it code and then review, or make partial development, like co-development? Can anyone comment?

Started using bluesky PWA. i think PWAs are quite interesting and feel like they are underrated. Even myself. I am going to build my next app as a pwa.

so as we wrap up 2025. i wish for all, including myself, peace (in -self and worldwide), happiness, health, -enough / proper- success. As years go by and i get more -senior-, i see that these are not any cliche but what matters truly. Good bye 2025, hello 2026

Recently, i made additional config to my vscode settings, now feel more terminal-like, with no clutter and easiness of adding any plugins... I like it more. Also, recently wrote many markdown notes, truly loved the features MD presents, images, links, marking, bullets, checkboxes, etc.

Reading docs and implementing it to the software might now be underestimated since that everything is very fast with LLM’s. But idk, maybe I am old fashioned but I think that is very valuable, to learn basics and develop a crucial skill, being able to learn, adapt and apply, anything…

While I work on side web projects I also keep on exploring Linux distros and tools. Nowadays as I explore #bluefin #linux and #distrobox (great tool!) I changed my shell and prompt to bash and starship temporarily (or permanently) as they seem simpler and more configurable.

I studied #bluefin #linux a little bit, set it up and discussed it with ChatGPT ☺️. So my early consideration is it is interesting and tempting. I will gradually move my dev env to it and work with this distro and this approach of containerized development. Now back to real work

exploring #Bluefin #linux with developer mode. Aside i will be exploring some other things as well like #brave #browser etc. in the docs it says #Bluefin is not compatible with VirtualBox but i just installed it on a VB vm. Will i crash on a wall soon or docs need to change?

ok I think I am having a likeness towards #expo. Could it be my new extension in career, in addition to #webdevelopment? I am also exploring #electron, so it seems that I am in all #javascript ecosystem, web-mobile-desktop. time will tell if I am gonna stuck with all three..

In late august made an aggressive plan for a 6-month period, dividing tasks (reading/writing tech articles/ developing some apps and leetcode) into each month. Result: less than half achieved from sep plan and some leetcode problems made me think I am not so wise (just being nice to myself) 😅

Many projects in mind and as I slowly try to get into mobile development, with #expo / #reactnative, I also will plan for mobile versions for some of them. Probably will go with #android first as other choice is quite expensive. (Ironically Using an iphone but will probably switch to android soon

Nowadays exploring #expo and #reactnative, pretty excited about learning mobile dev but sadly my Linux vm does not support emulators. Nevertheless could see the output on physical device with expo go.

I had focusing problem recently, not at work, it is busy and I am working as hell but in my side studies. Nowadays, trying to go thru it and resume my old study habit, with a new plan. Just started reading some tech books and a side project. But many more are in mind as ideas…

In my plan I categorized main tasks into side projects, reading, watching tutorials and other tasks like algo exercises. I also want to get into contributing to oss and create content for such a long time, yet, without clear achievement.

While, I am also moving my setup to Linux. Even if I am on Mac host. Don’t know but Linux attracts me, maybe it is the OSS philosophy. I like Mac a lot but for now want to keep within Linux.

Recently I could not work on side projects. But too busy at work, doing c++ (with Ai support) react and vue projects. Very busy and rewarding in terms of learning but I need to get back on my side projects anytime soon.

I am happy to be on the linux again, though it is a vm hosted on mac... I am not sure but macos hosting a linux vm might not be the best option. surprisingly, my mem consumption on MBP's activity monitor is much more than what htop shows, in linux vm. Maybe due to some setup error i made?

The joy and challenge of learning a new language... this is huge. And, consider that, you are a career changer, a web dev (front end focused) and learning C++. 😀😅
