Either a Selene or an Asmodeus move (though Asmodeus would give it to Thuan, who'd roll his eyes and wear it anyway because Thuan might be a cinnamon roll but he does know the value of a good show of power)

She is gilded to within an inch of her life, the black wool highlighting the surfeit of gold dripping from Schiaparelli’s late #1930s evening jacket. Part couched goldwork, part rhinestone studs, all the sparkles @metmuseum.org #FashionHistory 🗃️🪡

The only reason anyone is talking about Marissa Mayer or Dazzle is that her marketing team understands how to deploy rage bait, and most of the Internet still can't spot it in the wild.

To be honest: not that safe, it drops blood pressure and cardiac rhythm. If you have a number of conditions (any breathing issues, notably), it can be pretty dangerous.

Voilà. On en a notre claque de voter pour un "moindre mal" qui ne fait que retarder le pire. On veut ARRÊTER l'extrême droite, pas lui laisser le temps de prendre de l'assurance !

It's really important to pay attention to the fact that Lula beat the fascist candidate not by compromising and trying to meet fascist voters in the middle, but by sticking to his guns, promising prosecutions for election interference, and mobilising his own voters to turn out in greater numbers.

People are sharing all sorts of stories of Bauza on the picket lines fighting for artists and standing up for the craft of animation but I just keep thinking about the time he went to Tara Strong’s birthday and stopped by 6Point on the way home with a tray of cakepops for the artists working late

So @wiswell.bsky.social I've been explaining your books to k1 who's on a mythology kick atm and he says he's totally on board for the friendly lion of nemea and the dragon sneaking into dragon riding school (I did tell k1 he might want to wait a little before reading them because well, content)

(I read this aged 16 or 17 and it was a good age for it)

A red letter day: I've explained Sam Vimes' Boots theory of socioeconomic unfairness to k1 Who chewed on it for a while and said "ok fair it does make a lot of sense"

So errrrrr we should stockpile for a climate emergency facilitated by the resumption of drilling and the encouragement of generalised AI use?

Honestly several things are depressing about ai but the two that stand out are the eagerness of people to outsource thought because cognitive effort is uncomfortable, and the casualness with which people use the shiny, easy thing knowing it's bad for climate change

Explained garden of eden story to k1 K1, future scientist: really unsure why knowing good and evil is an issue. Knowledge is good no? Me: er (No suggestions on how to explain please, I did get it covered)

Colette reminding us what we collectively have accomplished via out efforts to explore how the biological world works. It's worth a read because we sometimes forget the impact in my own scientific lifetime 🧪

The 5-year cancer survival rate is up to 70% SIDS deaths have decreased by over 50% 89% decline in tornado deaths All thanks to federal investment in science and OUR tax dollars at work!

Update: woke me up last night at 3am because he and his brother got into the big clothes cupboard

Aliette de Bodard@aliettedebodard.com

In other news it's been six months and Dalek the cat has learnt to -open doors by throwing himself at them until the latch clicks -open unlatched doors by sliding a paw underneath and pulling - open a cupboard by sliding the panels -get inside at the food in the bin by pushing up lid Smart cats 😔

I'm still of the opinion that the best way to deal with people saying very idiotic or harmful things is not giving them oxygen in the press social media etc or at any rate making sure the people saying the right things are given more oxygen than they do

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?
