Obsidian is such an important part of my daily workflow since years now, just because a vault is just plain markdown. It gave me such a head start when this AI boom started. Most of my agentic flows happen within my vault. Check it out if you didn't already. Proud to be a Catalyst member.

Obsidian@obsidian.md

Obsidian 1.15.0 (early access) is now available to Catalyst members - Mermaid diagrams use our new engine, Pele, which renders up to 500 times faster and uses your theme's colors and fonts. - Voice capture on iOS: transcribe voice notes as you speak, even from the Lock Screen. - and lots more!

Last day to submit for Devoxx Belgium. I could use a bit more submission in my track "Cloud Native, Data and Infrastructure".

Finally moved to @eurosky.social. Migration was a bit scary when I needed to enter the PLC update confirmation code, and I needed to refresh the migration page before getting the code page. Now, I don't seem to be able to verify my e-mail address as I don't get a "verification code" mail.

This will be a game changer. I'll certainly dive into the proposal to see if it will allow for building mixed private/public data social apps. I hope this proposal will allow for that, because that's how real life is, right? You only disclose part of it publicly.

Just booked my flight for KubeCon NA 2025. If you have to pay it out of your own pocket, better be fast when prices are low. I shouldn't have waited... the prices were lower a few days ago. Airplane tickets are like gambling.

A Cloud Native local chapter reboot. It was fun meeting everybody. And we made lots of plans for next year… like a blue sky account 😀.

Cloud Native Brussels@cnbrussels.bsky.social

On Wednesday night, the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) Belgium 🇧🇪 chapter began (for some of us) and reunited (for others)—and it was a blast!

Let's see how resilient 🦋 follows are: Light mode for the win!!! Well, except for IntelliJ, but that's because of the Darcula theme... and maybe zed (running that in dark mode 🤔)... ok, ok... my terminal is black. But that's it... I think 😶‍🌫️.

A few weeks ago, I presented at ArgoCon (co-located KubeCon event). My second presentation where I created my slides with slide.com, the online editor from the authors behind reveal.js: 30 sliders for 10 minutes, so full of animations. Loved the editing experience. slides.com/alexvanboxel...

Today, I've started picking up some work on my little part of the @opentelemetry.io collector (the Google Cloud Pub/Sub receiver and exporter). I'm going to support the encoding extension, so I can support more than OTLP, it also allows me to extract an encoding that should not be part of the core.

The encoding that I'll be extracting is support for Cloud Logging. It's a part that I accepted as a contribution, and are not using at the company I work, and is actually not that stable. The new extension mechanism now allows me to externalize this from the receiver.

After about 18 years on Gmail, I'm ready to switch. I've been frustrated for a while now with its rule engine... I use rule engines a lot, to slice and dice my mails. I've evaluated Fastmail, as an alternative, for a few days now, and it's looking good.

Also, it's also the ideal period to do such an evaluation. Without something automatically labeling your promotional mails, they are now in your face now... it just triggers you to click that unsubscribe link.

In case you missed it: Bluesky runs on-prem. They migrated off of AWS months back. So yeah, they DO need to put orders in for servers! (Good luck to the dev team!) More on their architecture: newsletter.pragmaticengineer.com/p/bluesky

newsletter.pragmaticengineer.comBuilding Bluesky: a Distributed Social Network (Real-World Engineering Challenges)Bluesky is built by around 10 engineers, and has amassed 5 million users since publicly launching in February this year. A deep dive into novel design decisions, moving off AWS, and more.
Why@why.bsky.world

To be clear, we do have plans for scaling, we just kinda expected more than a couple days notice before getting blasted with a million new users a day. The team is rapidly deploying fixes and new software to adapt. More servers in the mail.

Yesterday at the @opentelemetry.io ContribFest as #KubeCon I had a very unusual question to ask... how do I deprecate *part* of my contribution to the collector? It's not something you easily ask at an online SIG meeting, seeing people in person rules. Thanks, Antoine and Pablo for the guidance.

The #KubeCon day after blues... preparing for a long flying home from Salt Lake City to Brussels. I think this was one of my most productive KubeCon's talking to many people and vendors. I'll be back.

You are up to date.
