It’s going to take some time but my mom will be buried with my dad at ANC. I really hate what this president is trying to do to the area near my parents’ final resting place.

His inability to do the bare minimum in explaining the war to the American people and Congress guarantees that he will not be able to change public opinion on this war. Possibly ever.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Trump: "We didn't start the war with Iran. Iran started the war with us."

Considering the analyses from the media, it was probably a combination of 2 & 3 (not you Palantir, we see you). And based on the political reporting, why wouldn’t they think that things had changed permanently? Anyhow, prove ‘em wrong and make them own their fuck-ups.

Nicholas Grossman@nicholasgrossman.bsky.social

The powerful executives who cozied up to Trump didn't oops accidentally forget about pendulum swings. They either: 1) Like the fascism 2) Calculated it was here to stay, so going along was savvy 3) Saw no real downside, no consequences when the pendulum swung Crucial to show them 3 was a mistake

The Washington Post@washingtonpost.com

The Trump administration plans to dole out $8 billion to farmers, a key Republican constituency that has been buffeted by economic problems before midterms. The USDA will pay farmers “to offset diesel costs during this harvest season,” President Trump said.

WaPo published one editorial on Musk this week- to celebrate Elon’s flying car bullshit. The ed board has yet to write about his white nationalism or the fact that he’s funding the GOP election efforts.

The A.V. Club@avclub.com

Bleecker Street, the film distributor overseeing the theatrical release of Alex Gibney's documentary Musk, was informed on Friday that the film's TikTok account was subject to "permanent suspension." tinyurl.com/4yd9997x

It was the same in Trump I. His excesses on the issue leads to softening support for his goals.

Greg Sargent@gregsargent.bsky.social

New Marist poll of Texas finds 61% say undocumented immigrants should stay in US if meet certain requirements. Only 35% say they should leave. A majority of noncollege white men (Trump base) says stay. Supports my case (see piece/thread below) that Trump opened way for new pro-immigrant consensus

Well, that’s mainly because our diesel prices were already insane. They just went up over $7 for the Honolulu Texacos I’ve seen.

Patrick De Haan@gasbuddyguy.bsky.social

the *smallest* gain to diesel vs a year ago: Hawaii: $2/gal, while California and Colorado see diesel prices up over $3/gal from a year ago. I don't see much improvement to these anytime soon, despite every possible lever being pulled. only real lever that matters? diplomacy.

I keep wondering what it would look like to have a functioning Secretary of State/State Department.

Nicholas Grossman@nicholasgrossman.bsky.social

Trump’s plan to save the midterms is…help Russia. The Trump-Vance-Kushner-Witkoff approach to the war has always been weaken Ukraine so they bow down to Putin. It hasn’t worked. With nearly two years of this, Ukraine has shown it can thwart ground offensives and strike Russian oil without US help.

I remember the Iron Fist of Justice, Dana Loesch, decide that the fact that Castile smoked werd was enough of a reason to ignore the issue.

Doomer VonDoomington 🇺🇦@doomervon.bsky.social

Remember when the NRA came out and condemned the killing of Philandro Castile? A legal gun owner who TOLD the cop there was a gun in the car. Oh. That's right. The NRA never said a word. Sounds about white.

This is the first administration I’ve seen that is so openly oligarchical.

Eric Lipton NYT@ericlipton.nytimes.com

JUST POSTED: Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff have pushed a multibillion oil deal with Russia as part of peace talks that will bring profits to their family business partners. A new front for Trump-era conflicts of interest. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/03/u...

WaPo editorial board also spilled a lot of ink against Spanberger based on one poll. They have not returned back to the issue despite new data that show the Governor with better approval numbers.

Richard Skinner@richardmskinner.bsky.social

This article reads like it was assigned a few weeks ago when a couple of polls made #NHSen look closer that it looks now.

Islamists and Communists is what GOPniks are calling Democrats these days. Surely just a coincidence. Right?

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Hegseth: "Send me to right the Redcoats, send me to fight the communists, send me to fight the Islamists. Send me."

Nicholas Handler@nicholashandler.bsky.social

You have staffers to know about sports and stuff so you don’t get embarrassed like this. The problem with hiring groypers is that all of their normal guy knowledge has been removed and replaced with theories about skull shapes.

I made a similar point about their “protect women’s athletics” performance art.

Angela Benander@abenander.bsky.social

also - I would bet $1m that it didn't remotely occur to the staffers in the "we need to protect women in sports" party to check the women's NCAA schedule for that date. f these losers

Andrew with opens up a can of hillbilly whoop-ass on RS. Seriously, it’s a great response to a very weird Rolling Stone essay. I say that as someone who has heard the song maybe 2-3 times and just didn’t care for it.

Quite simply, this administration doesn’t believe that pay to play corruption is real corruption. Real corruption is what poor people do, not the wealthy and powerful.

Don Moynihan@donmoyn.bsky.social

NY Times pointing out that Patel’s purge of agents focusing on public corruption hampered the investigation of Collins www.nytimes.com/2026/09/22/u...

Really, kids… The Unitary Executive is a problem. A big one.

Catherine Rampell@crampell.bsky.social

It really is striking how many authoritarian states have ended up in this exact same place, where the leader seizes control of scientific inquiry. Lysenkoism in the Soviet Union, Aryan Physics in the Third Reich, Great Leap Forward (also related to Lysenko) in China.

As I was saying over at the hellmouth…

Jason "Red5" Lyall@jaylyall.bsky.social

You're in charge of a war that you're losing, the Houthi are on the march to Riyadh, you've run the Navy ragged, you've lost almost all your bases in the Middle East, you're out of missiles (mostly) that you need in case China steals a march on Taiwan...and you're at a fucking football game.

As I said in my criticism of the editorial at another site (can’t remember which), the US elected Trump twice. The country has effectively become populist, which means unpredictable. No country is going to bank on that sort of chaos.

Max Fawcett@maxfawcett.bsky.social

This is the part many Americans -- including the Bezosites at the Washington Post -- don't understand. Canadians don't see this just as a Trump thing. It's that America elected him twice, and the second time with an even bigger mandate. The problem we're addressing is America, not Trump.

Seriously, man… What happened in Ka$h’s youth that made him so certain that there’s voluntary and involuntary animal shtupping?

Berny Belvedere@bernybelvedere.bsky.social

Say what you want about J. Edgar Hoover—and you can say *a lot*—but he never said, “give me more animal humpers and I’ll change the world” like ol Kash here has.

While it would have been nice to see SCOTUS to tell the admin to fully fuck off, the most pressing issue was the fact that states have no time to implement these changes, even if legal. And, BTW, the admin knew this and still pursued just so they can use this as an excuse when Ds win in November.

Chris Geidner@chrisgeidner.bsky.social

BREAKING: SCOTUS denies the Trump administration’s request to enforce the new U.S. Postal Service rule for the 2026 elections. Justices Alito and Thomas dissent. More to come at Law Dork. www.lawdork.com

As I said on the other site, effectively shuts down the stories about the “pay for play” pardon grift by focusing on these two incompetents. Not great, Bob.

Andrew Donaldson@four4thefire.bsky.social

This was a disgraceful editorial decision covering the most inept known grifts who have been discredited for years now, give them the biggest platform they will ever get, and chasing this rabbit instead of far more meaningful corruption

Not tsure cynically “The Mad King”, but Joffrey works so well.

Alan Elrod@aselrod.bsky.social

This speech was like some sort of performance art piece of a live entombing of a mad king and his most loyal followers.

A reminder- there’s no guarantee that Lamb wins against Oz. This is not about getting it wrong during a primary. It’s about a deviation on one specific issue and the attention given to Fetterman from Fox. He’s Manchin in a Carhartt and a hoodie.

Boo!-per Lund@cooperlund.online

We could have had a largely fine Connor Lamb but a lot of people, myself included, got bamboozled by Fetterman’s anti-establishment credentials and our distrust of “centrist Dems”. There’s a lesson there about treating outsider candidates with a little more caution than we do.

The embodiment of the turd in a punch bowl. It’s up to the voters of PA to figure this out, but at some point, agreeing with the D party on 80% of the agenda isn’t enough to overcome the anger caused by this sort of appearance. A purple state isn’t an excuse when POTUS is hated.

Axios@axios.com

EXCLUSIVE: Sen. John Fetterman is preparing to make a bombshell appearance tonight at the GOP convention in a video praising President Trump and Pennsylvania GOP Sen. Dave McCormick

This admin and congress has expended a lot of political capital on the idea that Israel is the one “ally” who cannot, and should not, be criticized. They are not, and have never been, our closest allies. That would be the UK and Canada (the guys the admin is spending so much time trashing).

Walter Olson@walterolson.bsky.social

The House has passed a bill that would forbid a range of Israel-boycott activity by universities. To me it looks like federal overreach that would restrict the practical liberty of private institutions, including their latitude to use judgment in pursuing their educational mission. /1

Again, Trump’s EC was 2016 + NV and he still didn’t crack 50% in the NPV. Hardly Reagan ‘84. People read an awful lot into a narrow victory that was fueled by opposition to high prices. And now, because of high prices, it looks like everything Trump touches turns to shit.

Quinta Jurecic@qjurecic.bsky.social

this take was understandable in 2024 but is absolutely bananas to publish in Sept 2026. the South Lawn MMA fight polled at 16%. Trump's approval numbers on immigration and handling of the economy are not good and have steadily gotten worse since his inauguration www.newyorker.com/magazine/202...

The world is very different today. My mom passed last night at 8:15 pm. I was able to be here as she left for the mothership. Hearts are broken, but we know she’s in a better place.

A really good piece from Jay. The GOP’s continued association with Elon, Tucker, and the white nationalists is certainly worth the same scrutiny as Ds with Piker. As Jay said, at least AES apologized.

Saw this as I as packing. I don’t think it will fly because it’s 60ish days to the elections abs it would be disruptive. That said, I don’t trust this court. They’re little too fond of the Unitary Executive.
