What if they manage to get extensions long enough to release Blade and it sells enough for them to go indie. It probably won't happen, but it would be really cool if it did. And then they could reopen Arkane Austin and rehire people and we'd all (briefly) be happy again.

VGC@videogameschronicle.com

Arkane now has until mid-December to find a buyer, after Microsoft extended its deadline. The studio's next game, Marvel's Blade, is reportedly nearly finished. www.videogameschronicle.com/news/arkane-...

It's actually cheaper, as little as $6.66 for two games. If you can, but don't buy Prey for $3.33, we aren't friends.

VGC@videogameschronicle.com

With Fanatical's new Halloween bundle, you can get Prey, Doom 1 & 2, and Evil Within 1 & 2 (or one of many other horror games) for $11.66. www.videogameschronicle.com/news/fanatic...

Anyone up for crowdfunding buying Arkane?

VGC@videogameschronicle.com

Arkane Studios has until November 13 to find a new buyer, or the studio will be closed, it’s claimed. www.videogameschronicle.com/news/arkane-...

I'm excited for this. It'll obviously be per-developer, but if it were used to show maybe missable achievements, or ones that require multiple playthrough's, or even difficulty based things separately, that would be a big qol improvement.

Steam is introducing Achievement Sets, a new feature designed to improve the achievement-earning experience by splitting them into developer-assigned groups with their own completion status. www.videogameschronicle.com/news/steam-i...

Do people forget what goes into them, or do people lament how many good studios have been send to the CoD mines to the point where they'd just rather not think about it lest they realize how many good games could have been made by those devs instead? RIP Raven software (and Sledgehammer/ Treyatch)

The 'Call of Duty tax' means games media doesn’t cover COD the way it used to, Activision says. Its large audience has "become status quo" and people forget the work that goes into each entry, it's claimed. www.videogameschronicle.com/news/the-cal...

3 weeks until my birthday, but much more importantly, trying to beat all the Soulsborne games in one sitting. And I'm a speed-walker at best, far from a speed runner. How Long to Beat has it taking 240 hours. It obviously won't take *that* long, but it definitely puts it into perspective.

If the person/people talented enough to crack Denuvo consistently isn't well versed in online anonymity I'll be shocked. Hopefully they aren't using windows, though, or maybe Microslop will help out again.

DRM company Denuvo has asked a court for permission to subpoena Discord, Valve and Reddit to identify a game hacker it’s suing for releasing game ‘cracks’ that remove its protection software. www.videogameschronicle.com/news/denuvo-...

I've had, what I think, is an undumped Xbox demo disc on my desk for like 3 months now but the drive I bought to be able to rip games gets here this week and I'm so excited to not look at this demo in shame every day.

I also have an (possibly) unseen prototype/dev builds of MDK that I really need to make time to dump and go through. What I really need to do is stop buying things.

Control Resonant was fantastic. If you like Remedy and the universe, it's a 10/10. The new characters and writing were great, there's plenty of lore as expecter, and the game is good mechanically too. The movement feels incredible. Maybe it's the Souls player in me, but the combat's decent.

Only mentioning the combat since I think it's the main complaint I've seen from people. While I don't think it's a master class in hack and slash gameplay, it's on par with a DMC or Darksiders. There is probably more combat than there needs to be, but it didn't bother me.

Control Resonant does excellent job of showing off Remedy's unique brand of storytelling. Alan Wake, AW2, and Control all felt like they had similar gameplay but Resonant is far removed from all of them, yet it still feels distinctly Remedy. Doesn't hurt that it's been a blast to play so far.

Dawnwalker is a fantastic game that feels like a natural evolution of the Witcher formula. The writing is compelling, the characters are interesting and well acted, and it gives you freedom where most RPGs wouldn't. After 54 hours I have 4/6 endings and am guessing I've done 90% of quests.

I hate being out on a timer in any game, and I hope they don't bring it back, but it does genuinely make you think more about who you help, what quests you do, etc. I'm so bummed we probably have to wait 6-8 years for a sequel. It sets up so well for what should be a generational story.

If you were on the fence at all, I can't recommend the game enough. I've got a busy few weeks planned, but I hope I can make time to come back and 100% it. The game absolutely deserves it.

Ah yes, just what I wanted, culture being taught by a bot. One of the worst parts of AI is how it homogenizes everything it touches. Letting it run rampant in creative spaces is going to be a disaster for any/all internet culture.

So make smaller games. I know it's not that simple, but there's a ton of room for AA games right now. Not every one will pop off, but if your investment isn't tens (or hundreds) of millions it's a lot more palatable and the opportunity for success is the same (just look at E33, or Dawnwalker).

The video game industry has always been volatile (I published Press Reset in 2021!) but the skeleton key to understanding the current state of things is this: Big games now cost 10x to make what they did 15 years ago but most do not generate even close to 10x the revenue. Simple as that

I think we could all use a pork bun right now.

A designer who worked on Sleeping Dogs says he thinks a sequel could happen, but it would need "a bit of planetary alignment". Last year Marvel actor Simu Liu said his "dream" was to help make a Sleeping Dogs movie happen, followed by a new game. www.videogameschronicle.com/news/sleepin...

Twisted Tower was a blast. I can't recommend it enough as a fun, 8-hour FPS. It absolutely pays homage to Bioshock while feeling wholly distinct. It also had a good story. Unique, entertaining enough, and more importantly, not entirely predictable.

My Infamous 2 replacement server officially works with RPCS3 and RPCN. Still have some work to do to get uploads and hosting ironed out but I'm stoked to have it 90% 3 weeks before shutdown. And I'm up to 207k maps archived, still adding ~200/day. more details below I guess

And unless they broke recently, some of these have never worked. Newest, My Queue, My Favorites, and Saved Missions all make calls to a shared endpoint with no identifier, so the maps returned are default sorted. ie newest, queue, favorite, saved, and famous/best all return the same thing.

After I've got hosting and docs written up I'm going to try to hang out a quick website that can act as a map browser for people to download maps without having to mess with DNS. That part shouldn't be too hard, but I've got some fun ideas assuming I don't ADHD again.

I lost a bit of steam after getting the archive done because it's one thing to reverse engineer something enough to make requests, it's entirely different trying to recreate functionality. I'm a good sys admin but an engineer I'm not. But in the end, there's only one way to eat an elephant.

And just because I haven't written about it, the server has: Functional reviews Working uploads Play history Favorites New map sorting Remixing and TROPHIES! And with the exception of one static file it's completely self-hostable, though it does require internet access to spoof PSN afaik.

100%'d Dinoblade. Pretty fun game with a fantastic origin story. Boss rush mode was the last thing I did and it was surprisingly fun. Definitely recommend if you want a Sekiro-like, but dinosaurs.

The Limited Run's Star Wars Zero Company collectors edition is *$300* and it comes with a bunch of junk, a desk mat, some patches, and a replica detonator that you can just buy for $43. I'm no stranger to overpriced games, but what the fuck are we doing? The game on Steam is only $50 btw.
