There was a time when I'd be angry about the slow death of the BBC.

Eating a Francesinha. It's a stupid amount of pork meat of various types and cheese in a toasted sandwich covered in more cheese and a beer and tomato sauce. I ran 6k this morning and walked 4k here to justify eating one.

It's freshers' week in Porto, and their "hazing" involves walking around the streets surrounded by senior students in black, following a big stick, and chanting.

It gave me bad vibes to start with but I think that's only because the uniforms in the bigot wizard films are based on these.

"Crank magnetism is the idea that cranks—science denialists, conspiracy theorists, and contrarians—do not simply believe one wrong thing: they tend to believe many wrong things"

The Tonia Antoniazzi who is the member for Gower and scared her mother might see a trans person in hospital is the same Tonia Antoniazzi who is the subject of this Guardian article about cranks spreading 5G conspiracy theories. You couldn't make it up. www.theguardian.com/technology/2...

Time to watch a very normal, low key, uncontroversial game of football.

Dazzle-ships in Drydock at Liverpool, by Edward Wadsworth, 1919. It’s a topic that appears to have fascinated Wadsworth. I love every single one of his takes on the subject.

My dad had shoes with a compass in the heel and tread that looked like pawprints. Kids today get this. And what did we have? "You can inflate the tongue a bit." We were robbed.

very bad for me, a person with extremely poor impulse control and tiny feet, to have realised that Skechers sell kids shoes with a CAR GARAGE in the heel in what I believe may actually be just about my size www.amazon.co.uk/Skechers-Boy...

Kemi Badenoch attacks Reform UK: “I remember back in the day when Ian Wright and John Barnes were playing. Nobody was questioning whether they were English. We certainly didn't have sitting MPs question whether they were English. We must not let these people take us backwards.”

Flashbacks to being at university and people being stunned that I hadn't heard Crazy in Love despite it being released early the previous year and it being everywhere. I'm not sure I got much "cultural cachet" out of it.

Denny Carter@dennycarter.bsky.social

This kind of take made a Rolling Stone writer so mad they wrote a whole piece about it.

"Check me out, there's a multi-platinum global smash hit single that I only know as 'The Stephen Bunting walk-on song', bet you're impressed now."

Didn't hear a word of the new Scotland manager's interview because I was distracted wondering what height hair needs to be before it's technically a beehive.

It's really refreshing seeing shitey normal working class life depicted like this in a game, and a Silent Hill game no less. Pebble-dashed council flats, three-bar fires, Post Office counters, concrete shopping precincts. This must be how posh people felt playing Everybody's Gone to the Rapture.

Andy Kelly@ultrabrilliant.xyz

Seeing a five quid powercard in a Silent Hill game is mangling my mind more than any of the faceless shambling horrors.

Tutting at every review that uses "fog" instead of "haar".

Our IGN review of Silent Hill: Townfall is live, and I can finally spread the word that, yeah, it's the best the series has been in a long, long time. I've put nearly 34 hours into it, multiple playthroughs, etc, and it wears that stealth horror sleeve proudly. Don't miss it!

The Chicago Bears logo is good because it can look like it's roaring in victory or agape in horror at how badly the team is playing, depending on what's needed.

I'm glad I saw the "closed for filming" signs a couple of days before they built this and put "Internment Camp" signs around it.

Sefton Park’s new scally enclosure.

I guess that means I've been "into football" rather than "yes dear I'll watch the football with you" for three years.

On this day in 2023 😅 Darwin Nunez comes off the bench and scores twice to win us the game against Newcastle 🤩 Unreal

Did this again and got a picture of the dalmation this time. His name is Dexter.

High chance of me being smacked in the face with an errant shot this afternoon.

The Path of Totality would be a good name for one of those Serious Novels. An academic has an affair with a young student who ends up blinded by staring at the sun, maybe.

To the tune of Tullycraft's The Punks are Writing Love Songs.

Marie Le Conte@youngvulgarian.marieleconte.com

read this in the same tone and with the same urgency as David Tennant's Doctor going "the bees are disappearing"

I do prefer it when people at least admit that they are happy for hundreds to die so they can get to the supermarket a few seconds faster.

Carlton Reid@carltonreid.com

Genuine sentence from this piece. “Of course safety matters; road deaths are tragic. But any restriction on citizens needs careful balance and moderation.”

"The Box" but it's a 30 second short film and Cameron Diaz smashes the button so hard she pulverises the whole thing into dust the moment the dilemma is revealed.

It's always a "wake up call for the left", and never "why did no one believe the weirdo bigot when he was right for once".
