In memory... "The mind wants to live forever, or to learn a very good reason why not. The mind wants the world to return its love, or its awareness; the mind wants to know all the world, and all eternity, even God. The mind’s sidekick, however, will settle for two eggs over easy." -- Annie Dillard

" A partial eclipse is very interesting. It bears almost no relation to a total eclipse. Seeing a partial eclipse bears the same relation to seeing a total eclipse as kissing a man does to marrying him, or as flying in an airplane does to falling out of an airplane." -- Annie Dillard

' Largest sunspot of the current cycle, #4366 -- taken with a consumer grade camera. With a pair of eclipse glasses can probably see it yourself!

Weather was just _wild_ on the eastern Sierra the other day... 40-50 knots from the left one minute... Drive down the road a couple hundred meters -- 40-50 knots from the right! Some "mini-waterspout" action on Topaz Lake, for example.

I can not tell you how many times the wind shows up at this place on days with a full moon.... but grateful that the pattern continues...
