You can do the same thing, buying a house and borrowing against it—ha ha, just kidding, normal people get taxed annually on their wealth via property taxes, the "you can't tax wealth, the economy will collapse!" rule applies solely to the super-rich.
For the fabulously wealthy, paying taxes is pretty much optional. They can borrow against their vast wealth, which is mostly an untaxed capital gain, without paying taxes. When they die, the capital gain goes to zero. And loopholes exist to bypass the estate tax too.
Look, I know all the reasons we got here, but we really need to start seriously thinking about what we do in a world where The Markets punish whole countries for voting for decency, compassion, and fairness. We must stop pretending the capitalist machine is an objective, value neutral force.
It's really important to pay attention to the fact that Lula beat the fascist candidate not by compromising and trying to meet fascist voters in the middle, but by sticking to his guns, promising prosecutions for election interference, and mobilising his own voters to turn out in greater numbers.
It’s important to realize that we, the players, are no longer the customers of video game companies. We’re just a source of money.
The real customers are the investors, and no matter what, the companies need to keep them happy and show them that their investments are paying off.
Plaster those "100% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes!" blurbs on every piece of marketing you can find and bump those numbers up even more, let's make this HAPPEN.
LAIKA’s ‘Wildwood’ is tracking a $15-20M domestic box office debut after a skyrocket of pre-sale tickets.
This will potentially make LAIKA’s biggest opening weekend ever.

We are in a climate emergency & yet the government just approved Jackdaw.
As Green MPs, we've tabled an Early Day Motion calling on the Government to keep fossil fuels in the ground (including Rosebank) and to focus on things that would actually lower bills & create secure jobs.
US garment workers helped pioneer multi-ethnic labor unions, which united people across racial, religious, gender, linguistic, and cultural divides. Also native-born citizens and immigrants. I think about that sometimes when I see people suggest such divides are unbridgeable.
This is private equity, this is what it does.
Buy up businesses, run them into the ground, and rip them apart for short-term profit.

If you're mad about this (AND YOU SHOULD BE) - I know indies can't be expected to save the game industry. But goddammit some help would be great.
Go to Steam or wherever - find a game (NOT MADE WITH ANY AI) that you think is fun and unique - TELL EVERYONE ABOUT IT. Boost signals!

Once again: You cannot ask for a service that is as expensive as hosting and maintaining a social media platform if you are also not able or willing to financially contribute to it, and use it.
“Irony is a means of depriving the object of its reality in order that the subject may feel free….Irony is thus destructive and what Kierkegaard worries about a lot is that irony has nothing to put in place of what it has destroyed.” — Donald Barthelme, “Kierkegaard Unfair to Schlegel” (1970)
I would like to once again cordially tap the sign: please support billionaire free, worker-led and/or independent news how and when you can. Marisa's work here is the kind of reporting we want on the regular, about everything of public concern
Huge follow-up reporting to my scoop: The Guardian confirmed America Next—the conservative nonprofit founded by Bobby Jindal that was offering students $ to disrupt El-Sayed events—paid a firm registered to Tommy Teepell’s dad Timmy $250k for “canvassing and influencer marketing” against El-Sayed.
Kenney hit the infamous "two billionaires with one post" achievement, remains very rare, also shows once again that money does not equal intelligence, capability, or insight: Kenney is obviously right.
It’s depressing to see schools use AI to create flyers, banners, & t-shirts.
When I was in high school the faculty would come to the art department to have students create these things. I learned so many skills that have followed me my entire professional life. That’s what I thought school was for.
A reason I don't do any callouts or "name and shame" for games I suspect might be using AI undisclosed is there is the potential for serious reputational harm to developers if I make an accusation and get it wrong, and it's weird a z-list steamer like me has better ethics than the fucking Atlantic!
I don’t have any idea what the solution to the bigger problem for literature is, but it strikes me as completely outrageous that the Atlantic would level such a serious charge against an author without an iota of actual evidence. And no, a black box analysis by another AI program is not evidence.
#OtD 14 Oct 1977 anti-gay crusader Anita Bryant was "pied" by Thom Higgins, a gay rights activist. She then began praying and burst into tears. Following a boycott, she lost her job as brand ambassador for Florida orange juice. More LGBT+ history here: workingclasshistory.com/tag/lgbtq/
new Epic Games Launcher in preview -
"Programming is hard. So, instead of doing that, we vibe coded a new Epic Games Launcher that’s way faster and more responsive than the current one, and has a new look."

My heart breaks for mathematicians whose lives and careers are being destroyed by AI — and especially this PhD student, who doesn’t even know he is a poet
This is why ppl get angry when "moderate" dems say they won't impeach this motherfucker again.
If his actively flouting the tripartite system that's literally intended to keep him in check does not rise to the level of "Blatant Constitutional Crisis Requiring Extraordinary Measures" then what does?
Despite a court order, Trump kept using your tax dollars to run his propaganda ads.
From his gold-plated ballroom, to his new DC golf course, to these illegal ads, Trump will use your tax dollars to do everything but lower your costs.
He & his minions must reimburse taxpayers.
Trans people get called extremists for saying “hey don’t watch a wizard tv show.” Meanwhile people out here literally calling for legislative bans on our existence are propped up as feminist icons. Really just shows how those who make people uncomfortable or disrupt consumption are vilified.
We're speedrunning toward a future where news orgs are forced to use AI to create photos that are no longer available from archives, and if I have to explain to you why that's bad then you're already too broken to be part of society.
"Decolonize Everything"
“When the last tree is cut, the last river poisoned, and the last fish caught… then you will realize money cannot be eaten.”
Anti-colonial graffiti seen in Pensacola, Florida
yknow, one thing about this massive bot farm outtage that's kinda made me feel optimistic, is just... how inorganic this massive swing towards the right we've all had to endure over the last decade is. It's all fucking fake, it was fake from the start, and we know how to kill it
"You couldn't make a Mel Brooks movie today!"
Of course not, nobody would give a Jewish veteran with a controversial Black comedian co-writer, both of whom have overt anti-fascist politics in their acts, a budget to make a parody of a genre nobody watches anymore.
