I’m thrilled to share that I am officially working with McFarland & Company on a book (working title): “Salón de la Fama: Immortals from Latin America’s Baseball Halls of Fame.” My baseball research journey over the last 20 years has been an evolution. …

I don’t follow hockey closely, but I fell down a little rabbit hole when poking around on my Hub this morning. Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, and Kris Letang are now in their 21ST SEASON together as Penguins teammates. Seems that unprecedented in major sports. Am I missing anything?

Alan Trammell and Lou Whitaker were teammates for 19 seasons. Gordie Howe and Alex Delvecchio were Red Wings teammates for 21. But a TRIO to be over 20?

And with that, I am done being the annoying guy whispering things about Aurelio Monteagudo into your ear while you try to watch the World Series. You know me—I’m rooting for the team that employed Joey Meyer.

The real reason I powered through on Aurelio Monteagudo tonight? Milestones reached tonight: 140,000 words 550 bios drafted 250 career statistical records compiled

I found one team that he pitched on where he was ONE OF FIVE PITCHERS on the staff to win at least 300 professional games. Going to do more research on that before sharing it though.

Thank you for joining me on this journey, but I have found both Aurelio’s marriage certificate and death certificate. Both say his father’s name was also Aurelio and not René. Curious what it looks like when I file a correction? Figured I’d share.

So now we get bonus Aurelio Monteagudo facts. Career record… Mexico: 106–85 Minors: 102–73 Venezuela: — LVBP: 79–81 — LVBP Playoffs: 11–3 — Liga Occidental: 3–4 Puerto Rico: 3–10 AL/NL: 3–7 Caribbean Series: 2–2 Total: 309–265, 1143 G, 200 CG, 106 SV, 4933⅓ IP, 3540 K, 3.18 ERA

Working on Isidro “Sid” Monge tonight. His 1979 All-Star campaign for Cleveland was the first All-Star nod ever received by a Mexican-born pitcher (and third overall after Beta Ávila and Jorge Orta). His 5.6 WAR are also 11th all-time for a season with 0 GS. He was 12–10 with a 2.40 ERA in 131 IP.

He liked pitching every day, if he could. He was coming off a season for the Tomateros de Culiacán where he pitched 35 games and 77 innings (in a WINTER season with no starts). He posted a 1.05 ERA and saved 14 games with a 5–4 record.

A week ago, Frederich Cepeda became the 4th player in Cuba's Serie Nacional to reach 400 HR. Last year, he became the league’s all-time RBI leader. HR leaderboard: 487 Orestes Kindelán 405 Lázaro Junco 404 Omar Linares 400 Cepeda He entered this season (his 28th) with a .313/.431/.600 career line.

José “Pantalones” Santiago, Millito Navarro, Tomás Quiñones, Luis Cabrera, Rafael Ortiz, Luis Villodas, and Juan Guilbe. On this year’s ballot, we have Quincy Trouppe, George Crowe, Wilmer Fields, Alonzo Perry, Barney Brown, Bob Boyd, Dan Bankhead, Roberto Vargas, and John Ford Smith.

The rest of the ballot is also star-studded, with the likes of Carlos Baerga, Joey Cora, José Valentín, Rubén Sierra, Earl Wilson, and Valmy Thomas up for consideration.

Puerto Rico’s winter league welcomed players shunned by the American and National Leagues and treated them as the legends they were. The Puerto Rican Hall already features Josh Gibson, Satchel Paige, Willard Brown, Roy Partlow, Raymond Brown, Monte Irvin, Luke Easter, Tetelo Vargas, …

Johnny Davis, Buster Clarkson, George Scales, Bob Thurman, Bill Byrd, and Artie Wilson—all veterans of the Negro Leagues. Additionally, the institution has honored several native Puerto Rican stars who appeared in the Negro Leagues, including Pancho Coimbre, Luis “Canena” Márquez, …

For Negro League historians, the voting process for Cooperstown has been frustrating of late as it has gotten much harder for candidates from the Negro Leagues to be considered. Puerto Rico’s Hall of Fame, however, has nominated nine players from the Negro Leagues.

I recently managed to get the last Venezuelan playing era card/stamp I needed of José “Carrao” Bracho, the single-season (15–5 in 1961–62) and career (109–90) win record holder in Venezuela. He is also tied for the career win record in the Caribbean Series (6–4) and Interamerican Series (4–0).

His 1952 Parkhurst Frostade doesn’t show up on YouTube very often, but there were recently two available. If you are one of the people who beat me out at the last second on back-to-back weekends, then god damn you. 😐

I’m working on Melvin Mora tonight. Not only is he in the Venezuelan baseball Hall of Fame, but also the team Halls of Fame for the Baltimore Orioles and Navegantes de Magallanes. Side note: the quintuplets turned 25 in July.

Back in 1997, this band from Amsterdam called Bettie Serveert released the album “Dust Bunnies” on Matador Records and I’ve been obsessed ever since. It’s clean as fuck. The main reason I love The Beths so much is they remind me of this album. I would love to hear them cover it, start to finish.

Like, if I found out that Peter Visser and Jonathan Pearce of The Beths were somehow related, it would be the least surprising thing I think I could find out.

Your Cards of the Day: The Rays and Brewers are headed to the Fall Classic. The first former Brewer to don Devil Rays' togs was Julio Franco in 1999. He played one game for them. The first "Ex-Ray" to suit up for the Brew Crew was Julio Santana in 2005.
