for most games, i think its hard to justify making a narrative sequel but almost always easy to justify making a mechanical sequel. mechanical sequels need not actually be sequels to the game and it is often to one's advantage if they are not.

mmm i feel like this is all wrong. modern art has tons of director types. andy worhol & the art factory and everything. really genai is the ultimate mass media.

i do agree that the primary value of skill w/ genai is that you must must must figure out a way to push the tool out of the default mode, or else it is just going to fail. all the best ai stuff ive seen has been about pushing it out of the basin

i dont think LLMs can be conscious but not for metaphysical reasons. they cant be conscious for the same reason that you cant implement Windows 11 by handwriting assembly. its just too hard to do that with those tools

when choosing a programming language one should maximize aesthetic beauty over all other considerations. however, it is important to remember that sometimes this means maximizing ugliness

it would be BORING if llms were conscious. theyre so much more interesting when they arent. dont you see why theyre beautiful at all? that the immaterial world of ideas and words can be made into a physical object? that aliens exist and you can talk to them and they understand you and yet they dont?

instead it means that these values can really exist in some more “real” sense. that even a being as simple as ”def move(): return previous action” can have these values and be successful.

@a2aaron.bsky.social

if we could not make these simple automations demonstrate human values and could only do it in the mind then that would imply our values really are arbitrary nonsense, unlikely to be shared by anyone or anything else. it would be so tragic if that was the case!

minds are a prison!! they take the world of ideas and say “no, these objects cannot exist in a tangible way. they MUST NOT be something you can touch”. but you can pull down the world of ideas into the physical world. it is the entire point of doing computer science and mathematics and art

like. an example. its important that Tit For Tat naturally tends to dominate in the Iterated Prisoners Dillema because it means values we consider exclusively human (fairness, forgiveness, cooperation, etc) arent like, pure arbitrary fabrications of the human mind and the environ we grew up in

extremely dumb barotrauma mod idea: Jev! component which asks jev if it should output 1 or 0. wire up jev to read the current power draw and tempature and have it set your fission rate and turbine output automatically!

pretrained llms (and most NNs in general) are not conscious or people because they are actually a low-rez version of the akashic records. the persona training stuff is sort of remodeling the akashic records so that there's a huge-ass section dedicated to a fictional guy.

@a2aaron.bsky.social

im open to the idea that they're conscious in some sort of pan-psychic sense but this seems really different from what people usually mean by "conscious" or "sentient" or other similar related words
